We found out on [name]Sunday[/name] that we’re expecting a little boy!!
We had [name]Clara[/name] picked out for a girl with [name]Primrose[/name] or [name]Maeve[/name] as a middle but no definite boys name yet.
I’ve been through hundreds of names with my DH and the only 3 he likes so far are:
[name]Michael[/name] is a family name, it honours my dad.
[name]Benjamin[/name] is an all round good name but a little uninspiring,
[name]Ezra[/name] is very rare here in [name]England[/name], I’m really surprised DH likes it. It’s my favourite of the 3 but I have reservations. Only 96 babies were named [name]Ezra[/name] in [name]England[/name] and [name]Wales[/name] in 2010. It will be viewed as quite ‘out-there’ and I keep reading on other forums that people think [name]Ezra[/name] is a girls name!!?? We’re religious so we’re familiar with it as an Old Testament name.
What’s your favourite of the 3?
Can you sell [name]Ezra[/name] to me?
Any opinions from [name]Brit[/name]-Berries?
Middle name suggestions?
I recently fell in love with [name]Ezra[/name] (live in Europe though not in [name]England[/name]). I only ever knew [name]Esra[/name] as a girls name (I know a Turkish girl named [name]Esra[/name], but I think many Turkish names are unisex). The [name]Ezra[/name] spelling is male to me. I would say when it comes to non Turkish babies it’s male. But yes, people who are not familiar with the name might think it is a girl’s name first because of the “a” ending. But then again there are [name]Joshua[/name], [name]Noah[/name] and [name]Jonah[/name]. Still love it. There is a character on Pretty [name]Little[/name] Liars named [name]Ezra[/name], the good looking teacher
If you chose [name]Ezra[/name] I would go with a very masculine middle name. [name]Just[/name] in case.
I love [name]Ezra[/name], always have. It’s very male to me, but I’m Jewish (raised American, now in Australia) and it gets used more amongst Jews than other groups. It’s not one of my “difficult” Biblical guilty pleasures, actually, its one of my easy ones!
I like that its short without sounding harsh, that fits in well amongst the little Noahs and [name]Jonahs[/name] that seem to be cropping up all over these days, but without being common itself. I would also find [name]Ezra[/name] much less “heavy” than some of the other longer Biblical names.
I do like all your names.
I must say, if I was torn between [name]Michael[/name], and [name]Ezra[/name], and liked Biblical names… what about [name]Micah[/name]? Or [name]Malachi[/name]? Similar feel but not nearly as “well-loved” as [name]Michael[/name] has been in the English-speaking 20th C.
i say go with [name]Ezra[/name] i have only ever heard it as a male name i think a think a strong middle names a good idea though too i really like the sound of [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]
Thanks for the replies. [name]Ezra[/name] is definitely growing on me. My favourite combo is [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Michael[/name], it sounds very strong and masculine and [name]Michael[/name] is a family name so that’s a bonus.
I’m English, and I absolutely adore the name [name]Ezra[/name] and if I didn’t have [name]Elijah[/name] as the ‘E’ name I loved on my boys list, [name]Ezra[/name] would be a first name on my list. I have it in my combo; [name]Jude[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Ezra[/name].
It is very masculine in my eyes, and an uncommon biblical boys name. I wouldn’t worry about it being used as a girls name in the UK, most educated folk would know that it is a boys name and there were only 3 girls named [name]Ezra[/name] compared to 96 boys in 2010 so it would be very unlikely you would come across a girl named [name]Ezra[/name].
[name]Michael[/name] and [name]Benjamin[/name] are very bland, but both would make great middle names for [name]Ezra[/name] - [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Michael[/name] and [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] are both gorgesous.
I’m also a primary school teacher and I would love to meet a little boy named [name]Ezra[/name], would make such a refreshing change from [name]Jayden[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Alfie[/name], [name]Ethan[/name], [name]Thomas[/name], [name]Jake[/name] etc.
[name]One[/name] of my best friends recently named her baby boy [name]Ezra[/name], and I think it’s a great name! I don’t know any girls named [name]Ezra[/name], although I’m aware some parents have used it for their daughters. To me, it’s a purely masculine name, and I think anyone aware of the name’s history would agree. Of the three names, I like [name]Ezra[/name] the best. I also like [name]Benjamin[/name], but more in the middle name spot. [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] sounds so nice!
[name]Ezra[/name] is a really cool name and one of my favorites. As others have said, it has a very long history of use as a male name. [name]Ezra[/name] is not a girl’s name. [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Michael[/name] or [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] would be good names.
I love [name]Ezra[/name] - it’s on my list, too. It’s definitely all boy to me, I’d be very surprised to meet a girl named [name]Ezra[/name]. I think it’s one of those short names that really packs a punch, and [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Michael[/name] sounds great!
[name]Ezra[/name] [name]Michael[/name] is a lovely name. It is definitely a boy’s name and of course an Old Testament name too. If I met a female [name]Ezra[/name] and I hope that I don’t I would think that her parents must have been very out there and different to try to gender change a strong male name.
Thanks for all your replies, I got really excited about the positive response and just told my bump he’s going to be called [name]Ezra[/name]!
I just don’t understand why it isn’t more popular, maybe parents just have no imagination
I’m thinking future brothers could have names like [name]Jonah[/name] and [name]Micah[/name] but just out of interest, what would you name [name]Ezra[/name]'s theoretical sisters?
I see a few different ways to go with [name]Ezra[/name]'s hypothetical sisters:
Vintage-chic, as in [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Maybelle[/name], [name]Hazel[/name], and [name]Tillie[/name].
Biblical. Lots of range here. [name]Esther[/name] or [name]Leah[/name] could sit on the vintage chic side too. [name]Hannah[/name] or [name]Abigail[/name] are more currently trendy. [name]Susannah[/name] is lovely and maybe due for revival. I could see [name]Ezra[/name] working with ones as familiar as [name]Rebecca[/name] or [name]Miriam[/name] or as relatively unheard of as [name]Dinah[/name] or [name]Tamar[/name]. I think [name]Ezra[/name] sounds especially nice with [name]Mara[/name] and [name]Dinah[/name] and other short ones.
Aw, that’s so exciting! I have no idea but I think parents-to-be in the UK, especially of boys, seen to stick with the well known but for some reason for girl’s it’s different and you can be as creative as you like!
I love [name]Ezra[/name], and I think [name]Jonah[/name] and [name]Micah[/name] are perfect brothers for him. I’ve only ever met one [name]Jonah[/name] too, and no [name]Micah[/name]'s (excluding the [name]England[/name] footballer). I really like [name]Samson[/name], [name]Gideon[/name] and [name]Levi[/name] with [name]Ezra[/name] too. As for sisters the first names that came to mind were [name]Jemima[/name], [name]Tabitha[/name], [name]Annabel[/name], [name]Maeve[/name], [name]Vivienne[/name], [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Florence[/name].
