Fable + Verity

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all,

I tend to think of the name [name_u]Fable[/name_u] as a fairytale- it feels whimsical and magical to me. However I know the word can also mean a falsified or made up story.

I also have been crushing on [name_f]Verity[/name_f] extra lately, which is a virtue name meaning truth. Would having a [name_u]Fable[/name_u] and a [name_f]Verity[/name_f] in a sibset feel like antonyms/opposites? Like essentially naming your kids truth and lie?

TIA!

I definitely wouldn’t have thought of that

I think (at least in America) fables have a more positive association with moral lessons rather than a negative association with falsehoods so I actually think this pairing is quite beautiful!

I honestly wish I could use it! (My husband and I already have 2 girl names, our respective favorites)

These are charming and strong and whimsical, a hard combo to find!

I don’t think so. As another pp has said, fable has a positive connotation - yes made-up stories but essentially used for delivering some kind of moral truth - so I think they actually could be seen as more alike than antonyms if thinking deeply about it.

If I met a [name_u]Fable[/name_u], I’d assume it was the fairy-tale, whimsical, ‘story with a moral’ vibe that the parents were going for, so I feel like it’s fine

That wouldn’t occur to me. It’s a very fun, well-matched set: one that could be found in a story book.

Fwiw, I don’t see fables or fairytales as lies at all! On the contrary, I think they often contain the truest expressions of truth. So, I see Fable & Verity as complementary names. They really do make a charmingly whimsical pair!
