I prefer [name_f]Fae[/name_f], fiance just mentioned that he prefers [name_f]Faye[/name_f].
I think of molasses and mauve if I stare at [name_f]Faye[/name_f] too long, but do worry that [name_f]Fae[/name_f] is too ZOMGZZ [name_f]FANTASY[/name_f]!!! sometimes. I love the ae of [name_f]Fae[/name_f]. It’s just my favorite spelling
What do you like and dislike about each spelling, which do you prefer?
Middle name is still being discussed, but we’re leaning hard toward [name_f]Sylvana[/name_f]. Thank you all for your feedback on both issues!
I personally prefer the [name_f]Fae[/name_f] or [name_f]Fay[/name_f] spelling. The e at the end of [name_f]Faye[/name_f] is really just for aesthetic purposes and that seems so silly to me! I think [name_f]Fae[/name_f] is the prettiest possible variation, and I like the high fantasy aspect to it–which I think only some people will even notice, if at all (I would…and I would think it is AWESOME haha). [name_f]Fae[/name_f] seems light and airy, it has an ethereal beauty that I don’t find in [name_f]Faye[/name_f].
[name_f]Fay[/name_f] is maybe a good middleground if you’re worried about [name_f]Fae[/name_f], because it has some strong roots in fantasy (via [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] le [name_f]Fay[/name_f]), and is just as short, cute and sassy as [name_f]Fae[/name_f] but I think it would be even less likely to be associated with fantasy.
[name_f]Faye[/name_f] to me has a laid-back vibe that I enjoy. [name_f]Fae[/name_f] does lean more towards fantasy and whimsy, but I don’t find that a bad thing necessarily. I do prefer [name_f]Faye[/name_f] with a Y.
I love the ae in [name_f]Fae[/name_f] as well! Plus it reminds me more of Faerie, which is more fantastical and magical, but is somehow more rooted in myths and legends; almost a bit historical. [name_f]Faye[/name_f]'s nice, but it doesn’t really have the same natural, slightly mysterious and mystical feeling [name_f]Fae[/name_f] does. Basically I love [name_f]Fae[/name_f]! I just realised how weird this would sound out loud.
Great feedback, thank you! I figured out why I dislike [name_f]Faye[/name_f], besides the crazy feelings and such. There’s a town about an hour away that, while it has its good parts and I’m sure some wonderful people, is not typically known as a very nice town. It starts with [name_f]Faye[/name_f]-. It’s what I keep going back to when I really think about it. I think I’ll bring that up when he gets home.
I know two little girls one [name_f]Fae[/name_f], one [name_f]Faye[/name_f]. I’ve gone back and forth on which I prever. I think I do prefer [name_f]Fae[/name_f] as it does have that hint of whimsy with the “ae”.
[name_m]Both[/name_m] names mean fairy; [name_f]Faye[/name_f] itself means “fairy”, and [name_f]Fae[/name_f] is simply the plural form of the word (meaning multiple fairies), so there is that elemental/fantasy association. However, I think the names are beautiful and not overwhelming in their associations to the magical.
With that said, I do prefer the [name_f]Fae[/name_f] spelling in your case just because the potential middle name already has a “y”. Personally, I find [name_f]Fae[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvana[/name_f] more visually appealing than [name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvana[/name_f]; having two of the letter “y” would bug me.
