It’s strange how these things happen! Recently I’ve fallen in love with two names I never thought I would even look twice at, but now my ever-meticulous self is strongly envisioning incorporating them into my ten-year plan!
[name_m]Wesley[/name_m] is a name my partner brought up because we very much enjoy The [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Bride[/name_f], his favorite movie. Personally I thought the name had gotten too popular for me to consider, given that I tend to enjoy oddities and appellations you can’t easily find on keychains, but I always did like the sound of it. I didn’t see myself liking other -lee/-ley/-leigh/-ly ending names for the same reason: far too popular for me to think about personally using one. It felt too trendy.
Then I saw Isley in a family history book and all of a sudden fell in love with it! I was floored by how nicely it sounded in my head, and I thought of [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] and how cute of siblings they would make! I didn’t expect it at all, but I’m certainly glad I found it!
Tell me if you have any surprise loves that have snuck up on you recently! I’d love to hear of any name crushes you may have come across and how you discovered them!
I love Isley for a girl! It’s so much more refreshing than the name trend [name_f]Isla[/name_f]! I have Islet on my list, but Isley is superb as well!
I never thought I’d like the nn [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], but it’s really grown on me for [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]. I’d probably call her [name_f]Mags[/name_f] though as a reference to some of my favorite books, the Savvy series by [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_m]Law[/name_m]. I’m still years away from getting married though, so I won’t have to worry about that for a while! My parents say that if I name a baby [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], they’ll call her [name_f]Mag[/name_f]-Pie. That’s where I got the nn.
Surprise loves happen to me very often. Right now:
[name_f]Bette[/name_f] - I was very surprised when I found, not long ago, that I loved [name_f]Bette[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. I was never fond of it prior, but it suddenly seemed so very stunning to me. I love how it sounds, and I love how it looks. I said it aloud to my mum yesterday when we were discussing names and fell in love just a little bit more. It fits so perfectly for me.
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - Again, this isn’t a name I liked at all until recently - or, more specifically, until I had an association with the name that made me love it. I just think it’s very sweet, and I love that it’s a flower (my top three combos being [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Sibyl[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]).
Came across [name_f]Elvira[/name_f] in my family tree the other day and was shocked at how much I love it (and more shocked at how many times it’s been passed down in our family lol).
Also was never a huge fan of the name [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] because of the nn [name_f]Callie[/name_f], but then realized I really love the nn [name_f]Clio[/name_f]… and that has definitely made me fall in love with the name.
This happened to me today! I was just busy complaining over in the other subforum how I can’t find any name I love (I’m looking for Slavic names right now and have never before sort of restricted my search to one specific culture). And then it hit me out of the blue! Zoria or [name_f]Zaria[/name_f] - right now preferring Zoria - seem to check off all my boxes (Slavic, easy to spell and pronounce in English, beautiful meaning, and bonus - it’s a [name_f]Goddess[/name_f]!).
It’s funny because I had searched high and low for names, and had come across Zoria/[name_f]Zaria[/name_f] before, just didn’t think much of it and kept looking. So I’m not sure what exactly happened today but it just “clicked” in a way. We’ll see if the love persists!
