[name]Declan[/name] has been THE boys’ name for me for years. A fews years back, I mentioned it to my boyfriend, and he loves it. However, lately I’ve been falling out of love with it. It seems to be getting more and more popular, and I think I’m just getting a little tired of it…maybe it’s been my favourite for too long? [name]Don[/name]'t get my wrong, it’s a lovely name, but I’m just looking for fresh ideas.
My current favourite boys’ names are listed in my signature. You’ll notice that [name]Declan[/name] is an anomaly…there aren’t many Irish names that I’m particularly fond of besides [name]Declan[/name].
I’d love to hear some suggestions from you clever Berries.
Note: I am not currently pregnant or TTC, I’m just constantly looking for ideas.
Oh…If I ever do have a son, his middle name would definitely be [name]Robert[/name].
I’m on my way to bed but I thought I should just mention [name]Pascal[/name].
And [name]Quinlan[/name].
[name]Both[/name] loves of mine, familiar but not at all trending like [name]Declan[/name] is.
Thanks so much to both of you! It usually takes me quite awhile to warm up to a boys’ name…so I’ll mull your lovely suggestions over in my head!
Right off the bat, I’ve considered [name]Everett[/name], [name]Felix[/name] and [name]Julian[/name] in the past. I like all three. [name]Quinlan[/name] in interesting…I’ve never thought about that one before…
I just want to fall in love with a boys’ name again! There are so many I like, but none I truly love…yet!
Also: like most Berries, I’m searching for something not-too-popular. I’m a teacher, so it would be particularly irritating to have my future son sharing a name with countless other boys that I’d be teaching! I think that this is another reason I’m not feeling as enamored with [name]Declan[/name] as I was in the past…I fear it’ll be the next [name]Liam[/name] or [name]Aidan[/name]!
Aww, that’s not good. Take a break from [name]Declan[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t think of the name for a while and see if it helps (it works for me, with music anyway!). I’m not sure if I’ve got any good suggestions for you, but maybe [name]Percival[/name] or [name]Corentin[/name]?
[name]Declan[/name] has been pretty popular in the UK for a while, peaking at #66 in 2000 and from then on it’s dipped and consistently around the top 100-150 names. I’ve only ever known 3 and two are young adults and the other is about 6 years old so I haven’t heard it much to get tired of it. Almost the complete opposite at the moment because I’m seriously crushing on it. I think it’s handsome and even with the strong sounds in it, it just works so well. It’s pretty classic, while fitting with the modern boys names too. I think the nickname Dec is great too.
Thank-you so much sheflieswithherownwings! You’ve compiled a great list!
The ones I like best are [name]Sidney[/name] (except I had a hamster named this!), [name]Owen[/name] (though I can’t use it), [name]Liam[/name] (though again, I can’t use it, I have 2 cousins named [name]Liam[/name]!), [name]Miles[/name] (too similar to my partner’s name, [name]Michael[/name] [name]Robert[/name]?), [name]Linus[/name] (sounds terrible with the ln, though I love it!) and [name]August[/name] (sounds a little weird with the ln).
Yes, I’m picky! But honestly, you hit on a lot of names that are my style - great job! And I agree, [name]Declan[/name] is a very strong and handsome name…I just wish I could commit to it, or find “THE” name!
@ econo - I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Winston[/name] - but I can’t decide if it’s too “old-man” for a little boy today?
I’ve been going back and forth with [name]Winston[/name] for awhile now, which is why it’s not in my signature. Some days, I am convinced that it would be perfect if I ever have a son, but other days, I’m not so sure.
So Berries - opinions on [name]Winston[/name] [name]Robert[/name] P. ? What does this name bring to mind? Impressions? Which names from my signature does [name]Winston[/name] “go” best with to form a sibset?
[name]Winston[/name] [name]Robert[/name] is very handsome! It will fit a little boy, a teenager, and a grown up. I picture someone intellectual but fun! Maybe a teacher/professor type (a good thing in my opinion!).
I’d like to see [name]Winston[/name] [name]Robert[/name] with: [name]Meredith[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Felicity[/name], [name]Arthur[/name], [name]James[/name] & [name]Edwin[/name].
From the names in your signature, I think [name]Winston[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] sound so sophisticated together…I quite like it. Also, I can totally picture both these names on little boys.
Great! Thanks!
The only problem with [name]Winston[/name]: my partner is obsessed with the novel 1984. The main character is [name]Winston[/name]. He thinks that he would be unable to get over the association. I do love [name]Winston[/name] though…and [name]Edwin[/name]. Maybe I have a thing for that “win” syllable.
Thoughts on [name]Edwin[/name]? [name]Edwin[/name] v. [name]Winston[/name]? [name]Winston[/name] v. [name]Declan[/name]? And would [name]Edwin[/name] be unavoidably [name]Ed[/name] or [name]Eddie[/name]?
