Fallon?

We are trying to choose a name for [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]'s little sister and I have recently stumbled upon the Irish name “[name_u]Fallon[/name_u]”.

There is something about it I love. It’s cool, different and I think goes well with [name_f]Maisie[/name_f].

HOWEVER - I keep thinking it sounds too much like “phallic.” Did anyone else have that same reaction? Would you prefer the spelling be more feminine like [name_f]Fallyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Falynn[/name_f]?

Thanks!

I didn’t think of “phallic” when I heard/saw it. I would use the [name_u]Fallon[/name_u] spelling. I think [name_f]Fallyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Falynn[/name_f] take away from the name.

Sorry, double post!

No, I never would have thought of it sounding like that word - more like “falcon” without the C. I know a girl named [name_u]Fallon[/name_u], very pretty and definitely a nice fit with [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]. I’d definitely keep the spelling as-is.

I do think it has a decent look to it, but the one reason I would never use this name is “phallic” related. I know a [name_u]Fallon[/name_u], from my college days, and so many guys would say, “Hey, [name_u]Fallon[/name_u], you can fall-on me!” or similar jokes. She decided to use the nickname [name_f]Faye[/name_f] instead. People can be cruel about anything, I suppose.

Honestly, though, I’d keep the [name_u]Fallon[/name_u] spelling if you do decide to use it. At least with [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m] [name_u]Fallon[/name_u], people might correctly guess on how to spell/say the name. If you changed the spelling, she’d just have to explain it all the time.

I think [name_u]Fallon[/name_u] is lovely, and I don’t think the phallic references would be any worse than that for someone named [name_m]Will[/name_m] or [name_m]Richard[/name_m].

I would spell it as [name_u]Fallon[/name_u] though, as it’s the most recognizable.

I used to think it was pronounced fall-in/on. You may run into that with other people who deal with seeing her name before they hear it.
