Family names -- girls (very interesting)

I have geneology stuff dating back to the 1600s when my family was still living in [name]England[/name] and [name]Scotland[/name]. These are all from my grandmothers side as the only names I know from my grandfathers side are his parents, [name]William[/name] [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Lily[/name] [name]Ottilie[/name].
The names at the beginning on the list start at about 1650s and end in the 1990s (some repeat A LOT [like [name]William[/name]] so I’m listing them once and not bothering to count them. I’ll only repeat if they’re listed with a middle name)

There are some really interesting, gender bending, and foreign names on here! I hope you stick with it even though it long because I’m so proud of my family for their naming skills.

So, what do you think?

Wow. I wish I had that sort of access to history in my family.

And Friday, ahaha, I love it!

Wow! That is quite a list. Some fantastic names there. Your family obviously knew how to put names together.

My favorites are [name]Clarissa[/name], [name]Maud[/name] [name]Ann[/name], [name]Claudia[/name] [name]Jean[/name], [name]Vivian[/name], [name]Virginia[/name] [name]Marie[/name], [name]Theresa[/name] [name]Lynn[/name].

Was [name]Norma[/name] [name]Jean[/name] before or after [name]Marilyn[/name] [name]Monroe[/name]?

Also I have a sister named [name]Angela[/name] [name]Denice[/name].

There are some really lovely names on here. Some that I really like are [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Jane[/name], [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Alice[/name], [name]Mattie[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Willa[/name], [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Jane[/name] (a name in my signature!), [name]Sarah[/name] nn [name]Sally[/name], and [name]Sadie[/name]. [name]How[/name] cool that you have this information about your family!

@smash12 – Before [name]Marilyn[/name] [name]Monroe[/name] :slight_smile:

I think they did a great job. There are some that surprise me ([name]Jessie[/name] [name]Graham[/name], Friday, [name]Omega[/name]…) but as a whole, if I were forced to choose only family names, I think we’d be good. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Imogen[/name] nn [name]Jinx[/name] and Cyrena.

I like:

Wow, I’m even a little jealous. So far most of the family history for me is Norwegian, so a lot of Helgas and other names I will/can not use. You have so many that are usable and great names!

You have some great names in your family history!

[name]Omega[/name] [name]Joyce[/name] cracks me up. I wonder, was she the last child – and were her parents thrilled about this?

Awesome list, thanks for sharing!

Actually, [name]Omega[/name] [name]Joyce[/name] was #6 or 9.

There was one person in my family tree that had 19 kids and the average seemed to be 7-11. My grandma was one of 9.

There are some beautiful names on your list. I especially love [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Alice[/name]. What a lovely combination.
My great grandfather’s sisters were
[name]Lilly[/name] [name]Leona[/name]
[name]Reva[/name] Angenetta
[name]Zada[/name] [name]Estella[/name]
[name]Martha[/name] [name]Geneva[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Lola[/name]

all born between the late 1890’s to the mid 1910’s. I take a lot of inspiration from their names.

That’s quite a list! And some lovely names on it, I must say

We’re only just now trying to make sense of the seedy tale that is my family tree… it took a lot to get my grandmother to confess to some of what’s gone on, and a lot we may never know. But I do know the names [name]Catherine[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] feature quite heavily, which is how my aunts ended up with them.

Was that supposed to be #6 OF 9?

Wow, I can see why you are proud of your families naming skills!

I love…

[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]

There are some beautiful names, and I guess means if you want to honour family you have so much choice!!!

Yea 6 of 9 sorry.

@oddcreature – [name]Texas[/name] [name]Irene[/name] on the list up there was the daughter of a man who came to Arkansas as an outlaw from South [name]Carolina[/name]. He fled with his wifes teenage daughter, then after he got her pregnant, he went back and got his wife and lived here in Arkansas with them both as his wife. Crazy! There was also a whole line of our family that died of TB.

@[name]Lori[/name] [name]Johnson[/name] – My grandmother has been doing this research for a long time now and this is just for her immediate side. She still needs some other family info and my aunt [name]Lula[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] is looking into another side of the family. Her book has life stories and whatnot. My grandmother only had some old pics from the 1800s of a woman in a really Victorian esque wedding dress standing behind her husband and some other assorted pics.

My grandmothers family was:

Father – [name]Johnny[/name] B.
Mother – [name]Bertha[/name] [name]Irene[/name]

  1. [name]Mary[/name] [name]Ruth[/name] – 1934
  2. [name]Alton[/name] [name]Bradford[/name] nn [name]Bob[/name] – 1937
  3. [name]James[/name] [name]Ova[/name] – 1940
  4. [name]Eva[/name] [name]Sue[/name] – 1942
  5. [name]Teddy[/name] [name]Gene[/name] – 1944
  6. [name]Dana[/name] [name]Lou[/name] – 1946
  7. [name]Johnny[/name] [name]Ray[/name] – 1948
  8. [name]David[/name] [name]Wayne[/name] – 1950
  9. [name]Charles[/name] [name]Doyle[/name] – 1954

[name]Per[/name] request, the woman who had 19 kids:

Father – [name]Council[/name]
Mother – [name]Nancy[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]

  1. [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Jane[/name] – [name]July[/name] 1828
  2. [name]Susannah[/name] – 1830
  3. [name]Lucinda[/name] – February 1831 (died of diphtheria)
  4. [name]Andrew[/name] – [name]July[/name] 1833 (He became a Reverend)
  5. [name]Eli[/name] [name]George[/name] [name]Washington[/name] – [name]April[/name] 1835
  6. [name]Ellen[/name] – 1837
  7. [name]Emeline[/name] – 1839
  8. Cyrena – 1840
  9. [name]Rebecca[/name] – [name]December[/name] 1842
  10. Goulder – 1844
  11. Salira – 1846
  12. [name]William[/name] [name]Riley[/name] – 1848
  13. [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Ann[/name] – [name]March[/name] 1850
  14. [name]Alice[/name] – 1855
  15. [name]Council[/name] – 1857
  16. [name]Julia[/name] [name]Anne[/name] – 1859
  17. [name]Cordelia[/name] – 1861
  18. McKelles – 1863
  19. [name]Adeline[/name] – 1866

The second most impressive, she had 15 children:

Father – [name]John[/name]
Mother – [name]Susan[/name]

  1. [name]Nancy[/name] – 1809
  2. [name]David[/name] – 1810
  3. [name]Noah[/name] – 1812
  4. [name]Eli[/name]
  5. Leason
  6. [name]Elizabeth[/name]
  7. [name]Mary[/name]
  8. [name]Charlotte[/name]
  9. [name]Malinda[/name]
  10. [name]Caroline[/name]

  12. [name]Joseph[/name]
  13. [name]John[/name] [name]Allen[/name]
  14. [name]Finley[/name]
  15. [name]Jack[/name]

You have some interesting names here. [name]Eula[/name] [name]Frances[/name], [name]Verla[/name] [name]Mae[/name], [name]Vilma[/name] [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Vida[/name] [name]Fern[/name], [name]Willa[/name] Rhue (your ancestors predated the Hunger Games!), Friday, Dashie (I wonder if she was quick on her feet?), [name]Harvey[/name] [name]Edith[/name] and [name]Omega[/name] [name]Joyce[/name] (how cool is this combo?). Thanks for sharing!

[name]Juanita[/name]: I have met quite a few in [name]Texas[/name] all would be 60+ years old now and Caucasian. I’ve never met a Hispanic [name]Juanita[/name] so I think it must be an older southern thing but I’m not sure. I’ve often wondered though. You have some great names!
