Family Names?

So I have some family names [name_m]Ive[/name_m] been thinking about lately.

• [name_f]Patricia[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] goes really well with [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] ; [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f]. Thoughts?
”• [name_f]Debbie[/name_f]. Not [name_f]Debra[/name_f] or [name_f]Deborah[/name_f]. [name_f]Debbie[/name_f]. But Im not sure how this sounds with an actual first name… [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Debbie[/name_f]? [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]? Thoughts?
• [name_f]Ann[/name_f]. I want to like this, but everyone will see it as a filler. So Im not sure how I like that to much. And not sure if I want it was a first or middle name. Thoughts?

They’re all a bit dated, but [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] and [name_f]Ann/name_f are classic enough to use in the right combination. I’d combine [name_f]Ann/name_f with something to make it less boring ([name_f]Sophie[/name_f]-[name_f]Anne[/name_f], [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]), and use [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] as a middle name. There’s not much you can do w/[name_f]Debbie[/name_f], except revert to the original form, [name_f]Deborah[/name_f], which is a great strong and Biblical mn choice.

Personally, I like [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]. If you wouldn’t mind a tweak, I also like [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]. Not a fan of [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] myself, but I think that’s probably because I’ve never met a baby [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] and just can’t picture it. But if you love it, go with it!

[name_f]My[/name_f] aunt is [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] (my mom’s sister) and my mom is [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f].! And I see you have [name_f]Florence[/name_f] in your signature, that was my gma’s name (their mom). I don’t think [name_f]Ann[/name_f] is filler as a first name, but a bit so as a middle name.

I think [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] is tough as a middle, [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Deborah[/name_f] is pretty but I don’t know if you want to go that way!

I really like [name_f]Patricia[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f], and I think [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] is a pretty name.
[name_f]Debbie[/name_f] is nms but [name_f]Deborah[/name_f] is great, like [name_f]Deborah[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]. I don’t think of [name_f]Anne[/name_f] as filler. [name_f]Anne[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Anne[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Clarice[/name_f]. Very classic.

[name_f]Patricia[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] is a very old fashioned combo, I’d try and balance it out with something fresher. [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] does sound a little off with a name like [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], so I would definitely go for [name_f]Deborah[/name_f] nn [name_f]Debbie[/name_f]. I know a teenage girl named [name_f]Debra[/name_f] who goes exclusively by [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] so I don’t think it’s too dated to use, I’m just not a fan of nickname names. I do see [name_f]Anne[/name_f] as a filler but it’s also a classic and lots of girls have it in the middle. I like the long forms of [name_f]Anne[/name_f] like [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], [name_f]Anya[/name_f] and [name_f]Annika[/name_f] better.

[name_f]Patricia[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] sounds better. It is classic and graceful.

If you want to use [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] as a middle and you feel the need to jazz up [name_f]Ann[/name_f], you could go with [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Debbie[/name_f]-[name_f]Ann[/name_f] or [name_f]Debbie[/name_f]-[name_f]Ann[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. You could also tweak [name_f]Ann[/name_f] and go with [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], as in [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].

I hope this helps.

[name_f]Anne[/name_f] is my all time favorite name!!

I think [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] is a great mn option as is [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]. I’d go for [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] over [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] - it just flows better. Though I don’t know if a combo that is your aunt’s name and your mothers might not be too much.

I totally get what you are saying about [name_f]Anne[/name_f]. I feel the same way about [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. They are all beautiful names I really like but when used as a mn they often feel like fillers. That doesn’t mean they aren’t important or meaningful but because they have been used in that space almost to an excess they seem to lose their luster and brilliance. I think if you’d like to honor an [name_f]Ann[/name_f]/[name_f]Anne[/name_f]/[name_f]Anna[/name_f] she really needs to make an appearance in first place or you can find a longer version like [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], [name_f]Annmarie[/name_f] etc to give her a new shine in second.

I’m with the previous posters who mentioned that [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] was not their style. I find [name_f]Debbie[/name_f]/[name_f]Deborah[/name_f] etc difficult. However, I find [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] also difficult because I tend to find diminutive names as full names difficult. Maybe you could honor a [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] with another name with the same meaning like [name_f]Melissa[/name_f]. ([name_f]Deborah[/name_f] apparently means “bee” in Hebrew and [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] means “bee” in Greek - who knew). Or even [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] nn [name_f]Bee[/name_f]… just a thought.

I only like [name_f]Ann[/name_f] out of these (and I love [name_f]Ann[/name_f]). [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] and [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] are so dated and not ready for any kind of comeback, even as a middle.

[name_m]How[/name_m] about using a form of [name_f]Ann[/name_f] as a first or middle? [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f], [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Annika[/name_f]?

When I said only [name_f]Debbie[/name_f]. I mean I will only use [name_f]Debbie[/name_f]. Not a variant or another name with the same meaning.
I say [name_f]Ann[/name_f]. Not [name_f]Anne[/name_f], or [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. [name_f]Ann[/name_f]. I will not use a variant of that either. Family names stay family names. I dont change them.

[name_f]Debbie[/name_f], [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] all sound very dated to me. I have an Aunt [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] who is in her 40’s and she HATES her name so much because of how dated it is, and it just makes all of our family think of quiche [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f].
[name_f]Ann[/name_f] is okay, but seems rather plain.

[name_f]Debbie[/name_f] is tough to fit into the middle - I think many names that end in “ee” are, just in terms of flow. But looking at your sig, I don’t think [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] or [name_f]Samara[/name_f] [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] sound bad at all … Firstname [name_f]Ann[/name_f] [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] Lastname could work too, because [name_f]Ann[/name_f] and [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] are both short.

[name_f]Ann[/name_f] is classic and graceful and I understand the “filler” associations, but it just doesn’t seem fair because it’s such a lovely name, a classic on par with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I think it shines more in the first name spot, but I’ve started to come around to [name_f]Ann[/name_f] in the middle as well. It has a sweet, old-fashioned double barreled sound. I love the idea of using [name_f]Ann[/name_f] officially and using a nickname like [name_f]Annie[/name_f] or [name_f]Nancy[/name_f].

[name_f]Patricia[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] is great. [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] doesn’t flow quite as well, but if you like the name [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] more I’d put it out front instead of [name_f]Patricia[/name_f]. I find [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] very regal and stately but [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] has a touch more “sparkle” to me. I guess I like “dated” names. I think all of your choices are a welcome change from all the [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Adalyn[/name_f] and Annabelles.

Oh, sorry. I must have misunderstood you.

In that case, I would go with [name_f]Ann[/name_f] in the first name spot. I know people call it a filler as a mn, but I think it’s kind of fresh and unexpected in the first name spot now.

No on [name_f]Debbie[/name_f]. Maybe [name_f]Anna[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Ann[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] middle name is: [name_f]Anne[/name_f] (the french spelling for [name_f]Ann[/name_f]) and I wish it was my first name. It is classic and simple. No one has the first name [name_f]Ann[/name_f]! So while it is a very accepted and used name, she would still stand out amongst her peers.
