Family names...

So my favourite names are [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and they have been for a while! I’ve always wanted to honour my grandparents in my children’s names so I have thought long and hard about the combo’s that sit at the top of my lists and tried to use names that would honour them.

My grandmother and I share the same middle name [name_f]Frances[/name_f], so that’s an easy one. My grandfather’s name is [name_m]Ron[/name_m]@ld and together their last name can be honoured with the name [name_m]Beau[/name_m]. In addition to honouring my grandparents I would like to honour my father who passed away 3 years ago, and although I wouldn’t use his first name I’m happy to use his middle [name_m]Anthony[/name_m].

Taking all this into account I came up with…

[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] [name_m]Ronald[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] or [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] [name_m]Beau[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m]

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] ([name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is just a name I like, would consider another family name) [name_f]Florence[/name_f] is a family name but [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f] doesn’t work so seeing as [name_m]Beau[/name_m] is the masculine version of [name_f]Belle[/name_f], I did consider [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f].

Anyway, to the point I’m not sure if it’s enough to honour them with middle names and as my grandfather is really poorly I’ve been contemplating using [name_m]Ronald[/name_m]/[name_u]Ronnie[/name_u]/[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] as a first name. [name_m]How[/name_m] does [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] & [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] / [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] & [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] sound as a sibset? Would you be surprised to see them together? Would you assume [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] was a boy? I would definitely use [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] nickname [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u], despite not loving [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] all that much.

What would you think of a sibset of [name_f]Veronica[/name_f], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] & [name_m]Asher[/name_m]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] they go together or do some stick out?

I love [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] [name_m]Beau[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] - prefer it to [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] [name_m]Ronald[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m].

I really think [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] is a beautiful first name but I like [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] too. Of the two, I prefer [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] as I think it has more staying power. What about [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]? [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] [name_u]Francis[/name_u] [name_m]Beau[/name_m]? No reason you can’t use the male version for a girl.

I would not think [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] is a boy necessarily and I think [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] goes nicely with [name_m]Isaac[/name_m].

Of the 5 names you listed at the end, I don’t think [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] goes with [name_m]Asher[/name_m]. The rest I think could all fit together.

[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] seems to not fit well with your sibset.
I do like the names you picked though, but I think that [name_m]Beau[/name_m] most definitely can be and has been a girls name as well, so you can use that too…

I much prefer the [name_u]Roni[/name_u] spelling for a girl, or [name_f]Nica[/name_f], and I love [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] sans nn, as well.

I like [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] [name_m]Beau[/name_m] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]. But I also like [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. I think [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] should be a mn rather than using [name_f]Veronica[/name_f], which you don’t like much. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] [name_f]Frances[/name_f], or [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]?

I agree with pp that [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] doesn’t go with [name_m]Asher[/name_m], and if you dropped [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] then all the other names would go together.

I think [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] is easily accessible to a girl too but I’ve only met one [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] in my life, a boy, so yes, I think I would automatically assume [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] was a boy.

[name_f]Verona[/name_f] is another way to get to [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] on a girl if you don’t like [name_f]Veronica[/name_f].

I can’t tell to what extent this is one of your questions, and obviously I don’t know your family, but I would imagine that most people would be honoured to be honoured middle names. I think honouring both of your grandparents with [name_m]Beau[/name_m] is a lovely idea. [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] [name_m]Beau[/name_m] would sound great to me, too.

I would assume [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] was a boy, but I wouldn’t be stunned to learn that I was wrong. I’ve also seen it spelled [name_u]Roni[/name_u] for a girl/woman.

[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] together sound OK to me. I love [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] but I go back and forth on whether [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] sounds a bit dated. I haven’t met many Veronicas, so it’s not a name I strongly associate with a particular age or time, but it doesn’t feel fresh to me. On its own I think it’s very pretty, I’m just not loving it I guess. I debate how strongly it’s associated with [name_m]Ronald[/name_m], though [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u]/[name_u]Roni[/name_u] would seem like a clearer link. But at the end of the day, if as you say you don’t actually love [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] all that much, I don’t think you should use it. Personally, I would not want anyone to use a name they didn’t like to honour me.

Of the five names you list, in general I like them OK as a set. Being picky, [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_m]Asher[/name_m] seem like the most cohesive group to me. [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] has a different, older feel to me, and I explained my impression of [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] above.
