I was looking into my family tree and I found an ancestor called Woodland [name_m]Thompson[/name_m], I thought it was kind of funny at first but it started to grow on me. In the ancestor’s case it was his mother, [name_f]Thankful[/name_f] Woodland’s, maiden name and I assume pronounced [name_m]Wood[/name_m]-lind like the word and not wood-land like two words.
It feels like it could blend with more common nature names for boys, it has a very strong sound to it and it could get you to the nickname [name_m]Woody[/name_m] or would make a really interesting middle name.
Thoughts on Woodland? Anyone else find any interesting names in the family tree?
Woodland is so cool, I love it! [name_m]Woody[/name_m] would definitely work as a nickname. Someone I know actually just named their baby boy [name_m]Woody[/name_m] [name_m]Robert[/name_m].
I’d be super interested to look into my family true, and see what sort of names are about!
I think Woodland is fantastic. It reminds me of [name_m]Woodrow[/name_m] and [name_m]Linwood[/name_m].
My family tree is full of awful names, really. You have to go pretty far back to find something worth using. I did see the name [name_f]Plum[/name_f] used very frequently as a first name from the maiden name of an ancestor who came from a prominent wealthy family. It makes kind of a cute name. I like to look through findagrave to see some interesting names of the past. I really liked [name_f]Cleola[/name_f] Clesta (first, middle), [name_f]Viola[/name_f] Evergreen (first, middle), and [name_f]Remember[/name_f] Palfrey (first, last).
Oh this is very interesting! I think it’s brave, but useable as a first name. I think it’s definitely safe as a middle name though! If, in theory, I was to use it as a first name, I’d pair it with a name like [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u], etc. Something a little more common, but still, in my opinion, beautiful!
I love finding cool names in the tree!! Woodland is really cool! [name_m]Woody[/name_m] is cute <3 I would probably use it as a middle name though.
My great grandmother’s name was Sophina, which I love, and there was a relative a few generations back named " Polly Bird "… you win some you lose some.
I think it’s great! There’s [name_u]Courtland[/name_u] and [name_m]Roland[/name_m] and [name_u]Holland[/name_u] and [name_m]Forrest[/name_m]/[name_m]Forest[/name_m]…why not Woodland? [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like the nn. [name_m]Woody[/name_m] though.
The men in my family tree for the most part have common, familiar names, but there are a few women that stand out:
Samiramus (presumably after the legendary Babylonian queen [name_f]Semiramis[/name_f])
[name_f]Pamelia[/name_f] ([name_f]Pamela[/name_f] x [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]?)
Argel
[name_f]Ouida[/name_f]
As for family tree names I’d actually use…
[name_f]Clio[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f]
