I play piano myself and love [name]Mozart[/name], Chopin, Beethoven, etc… but I was wondering if I used one their names as a future middle for my child it would appear pretentious.
For example: [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Mozart[/name]
I love this, but my fiance’ immediately said it sounded pretentious… It’s a middle so I didn’t think it mattered, but what do you guys think?
Which do you think would be more usable as a middle name:
[name]Mozart[/name]
Chopin
[name]Haydn[/name]
Vivaldi
The only first name I like is [name]Frederic[/name] (Chopin), but I’m more curious as to if the last names are usable.
I love Chopin for a middle name as well as [name]Mozart[/name] but those are the only ones I like. [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Mozart[/name] is a great name!
I dont think theyre pretentious, especially in the middle spot. I think Chopin or [name]Mozart[/name] would work nicely. [name]Haydn[/name] could be a headache due to all the little (male and female) Haydens running around, that said, it also would fit right in.
[name]Just[/name] remembered I suggested Vivaldi nn [name]Vivi[/name] the other day, haha, surprised myself a little with that one but it seemed to fit at the time (wanting less traditional way to get to [name]Vivi[/name]). On a boy, Vivaldi would definitely need to be in the middle spot as it could feel a little girly thanks to all the [name]Viv[/name]- names that have become strongly girl territory.
I don’t think it’s pretentious in the middle. I love it! I adore Vivaldi so of course i’m going to tell you it’s the best.
[name]Ezra[/name] [name]Mozart[/name] is great [name]IMO[/name]. Maybe [name]Amadeus[/name] would be better for your fiance? I really love [name]Amadeus[/name] or [name]Wolfgang[/name].
Well I’m glad none of you (so far) find it pretentious. My favorite composers are actually [name]Mozart[/name], Chopin, and Beethoven. I would never us Beethoven though since I’m not a fan of the name. I probably lean more towards [name]Frederic[/name] than Chopin since I’ll be afraid people will mispronounce it as Chop-in.
But I do like [name]Haydn[/name], Handel, and Vivaldi. I would never use Handel though since I think it could lead to teasing it is similar to the word handle…
I was thinking of actually using [name]Haydn[/name] possibly for a girl since there aren’t very many famous female composers and I don’t know of any since I always played the classics…
I’m surprised Vivaldi sounds like a girl’s name. It sounds masculine to me, I guess the -ee ending could make it sound girly, but the name is heavily related to the composer so I’m sure a girl Vivaldi would still seem odd… at least to me…
The only first name I like is [name]Frederic[/name], but [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Frederic[/name] and [name]Everett[/name] [name]Frederic[/name] don’t as good as [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Mozart[/name] and [name]Everett[/name] [name]Mozart[/name] imo… but maybe it’ll grow on me. I do like [name]Joseph[/name], but that’s my fiance’s middle name and we’re not for the whole naming after family members thing.
I’m not really naming them after the composer, I just want their middle names to have a special meaning. My mom gave me the middle name [name]Rose[/name] because it’s her favorite flower, so I wanted to kind of do the same. I love the piano, but naming your kid [name]Piano[/name] would be odd… and I’m not a fan of word names like [name]Lyric[/name]… so I kind of wanted a name name, so composers seemed like a good idea.
Vivaldi’s an exception since he was more into string instruments, but I do love the sound of the Violin.
I’m not sure though if I would want to use someone I don’t know since I think it might lose the specialness of the name…
I think I might save naming my kid after a composer for the boy and do something else for a girl.
I love the combination [name]Ezra[/name] Motzart. I think it souns really, really good. And it’s a cool theme to have going, too. It’s not pretentious at all, you’re sharing something you love with your children.
I saw your most recent post, and it makes sense that if you don’t love the composer or know them, then it wouldn’t be as special. Maybe if there’s another thing that’s as meaningful as those composers you could use for your daughters.
I don’t think it’s pretentious at all if you play piano and love these composers. What would make it pretentious is if you used composers’ names to sound musical when you are in fact not. And if they are surnames, you could use them on a girl as well as a boy even if they sound masculine- surely both girls and boys had that surname! Being a middle name, it wouldn’t matter that much to me anyway.
[name]Ezra[/name] [name]Mozart[/name] is probably the coolest name I have seen on here in a while. Wow! [name]Adore[/name] it!
Actually, I think brothers named [name]Ezra[/name] & [name]Mozart[/name] would be pretty cool as well. Would be especially cool for twins with the nn Ez & [name]Mo[/name]. Killer combo!
I love it, actually! I studied piano all the way through elementary school up until halfway through college, so piano and music mean a lot to me… [name]Mozart[/name] is by far my favorite composer, so I’ve always been quite partial to [name]Amadeus[/name] for that reason. I don’t think it’s quite as obvious as [name]Mozart[/name], haha. I do really love [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Mozart[/name], though! Very cool. I used to know someone else who took piano for about as long as I did, and she had always planned on naming her son [name]Haydn[/name]. I love the composer connection, personally.
