I have been so uncertain about my boy names for the last few weeks, but we finally decided on our top five, so now I can start making combos! I’m so emotional and hormonal, I don’t trust myself at the moment, and boyfriend doesn’t care about flow in a name or how they sound together, so I desperately need help!
First name up is Faramond. It means journey protection and he was the first king of the [name]France[/name]. I’ve been thinking of names like [name]Hector[/name] (to all Americans: this is not a Hispanic name over here, it’s considered quite chic and cool), [name]Wayland[/name], [name]Perseus[/name], [name]Percival[/name], [name]Emrys[/name]/[name]Ambrose[/name], Lohengrin, [name]Alaric[/name], [name]Tiberius[/name] and Westfall.
I work better from a perspective of imagery, and what I picture are ancient forests with beautiful trees, traveling roads, horses, the smell of leather, coffee, whiskey and roses, hawks and falcons, leather gloves and velvet capes lined with fur (sorry, this seems awfully random and cheesy).
Any name suggestions/combo suggestions would be most welcome! Thank you!
honestly out of the names you listed Faramond [name]Alaric[/name] is the only one that really flows well to me and sounds so stunning. I picture a man with very dark auburn hair and broad shoulders who is in command of dozens of knights.
Faramond Emerys isn’t awful (especially since I am a [name]Merlin[/name] fan), but I think the am/em sounds may be too close together.
What I’m getting most from the imagery you described is something upper class, a little Medieval - like an English nobleman riding through the forest - don’t know why! Your taste is obviously so much more unique than mine but I’ll try to suggest some combos with your names as well as some random ones I think could fit:
Faramond [name]Perseus[/name] [name]Roan[/name] (pronounced like [name]Rowan[/name])
Faramond [name]Emrys[/name] Westfall
Faramond [name]Alaric[/name] [name]Radley[/name] (like the flow but the association with To Kill A Mockingbird might be too much)
Faramond [name]Aldous[/name] [name]Wayland[/name]
Faramond [name]Everard[/name] Wythe (weren’t you considering this before??)
Faramond [name]Tiberius[/name] Westfall
Faramond [name]Perseus[/name] Wythe
Nothing ending with -n for Faramond, even though [name]Wayland[/name] would otherwise be so perfect.
Faramond [name]Silvius[/name] [name]Shaw[/name] (anglicisation of Scots Gaelic Seaghdha, “hawk-like”; also after the playwright)
Faramond [name]Emrys[/name] [name]Cheyne[/name] (old French for ‘oak’)
Faramond [name]Faulkner[/name] [name]Holt[/name] ([name]Holt[/name] = “son of the untamed forests;” [name]Faulkner[/name] = surname from falconry, and the author. Otherwise, Falco.)
Faramond [name]Bryn[/name] [name]Bayard[/name] ([name]Bayard[/name] was a mythical Renaissance French knight, renowned for his valor and purity of heart, as well as [name]Roland[/name]'s magical bay horse. [name]Bryn[/name] is of course Welsh for hill).
mclola, thanks, that’s so funny, [name]Evander[/name] is one of our other boy names. [name]Lovely[/name] name.
lily, that was kind of what I was going for! I like Faramond [name]Perseus[/name] [name]Roan[/name] and Faramond [name]Tiberius[/name] Westfall. [name]Radley[/name] is cool but if people will associate it with TKAMB I’d rather not use it… Wythe is out, boyfriend vetoed it
blade, I agree, unfortunately most of the names I like end in -n (or -r) which is causing a problem… I love Faramond [name]Faulkner[/name] [name]Holt[/name] and … ok let’s face it, I love them all! Need to think about them. Thanks, great work!
I noticed you plan on 2 middle names. I combined mn’s you suggested with others that would fit well. Honestly, I think Faramond [name]Alaric[/name] ______ would be the most striking. Faramond [name]Alaric[/name] just flow together very beautifully. The ‘d’ to the ‘[name]Al[/name]’ to the hard ‘c’ rolls so nicely off of the tongue and with a nice rhythm.
Hmm, I agree with Faramir [name]Alaric[/name] to an extent… though you’d have to be extremely careful with the third name initial. Basically avoid B, D, G, N, P, Q, T, and V.
I really like [name]Faulkner[/name] or [name]Bayard[/name] from [name]Blade[/name]'s lovely suggestions; And I’m finding myself drawn to [name]Perseus[/name] and [name]Hector[/name] from your first list.
Faramond [name]Hector[/name] [name]Emrys[/name]? Faramond [name]Perseus[/name] [name]Bayard[/name]? Faramond [name]Lucius[/name] [name]Faulkner[/name]?
(Also can I just say how amused I am that some of your more talked about suggestions- for both boys and girls- are now becomming more commonly found in other user signatures/being added to the NB database… Clearly we are all so fond of your choices and so invested in the discussion of these options.)

From your list, I love [name]Hector[/name], [name]Ambrose[/name], [name]Emrys[/name] and Westfall. Have you considered [name]Gawain[/name] or the variation [name]Gavain[/name]? It seems to fit your Faramond imagery, which seems medieval to me.
What about:
Faramond [name]Hector[/name] [name]Gawain[/name] or Faramond [name]Faulkner[/name] [name]Gawain[/name] (maybe a little too bird-y?)
Faramond [name]Phillip[/name] Westfall
Faramond [name]Emrys[/name] Palamedes or Faramond [name]Ambrose[/name] Safir
sdsurfma, I do like Faramond [name]Evander[/name] [name]Perseus[/name].
[name]Amy[/name]!! I know, I need to be careful. Boyfriend and I actually think Faramond and [name]Alaric[/name] is too much together (two legendary kings). I love the suggestion of Faramond [name]Perseus[/name] [name]Bayard[/name]. I think this and Faramond [name]Faulkner[/name] [name]Holt[/name] are the two I’m most excited about.
[name]Rosey[/name], [name]Gawain[/name] is one of the other first names we’re considering. It was on our list, then off (because of a dream I had, but I talked to a dream interpreter and the dream, although scary, was not a bad one after all) and now on again. It’s a great great name!
Haha, I know, I’ve noticed it too! It makes me happy
I know you just said Faramond and [name]Alaric[/name] are too much together, but Faramond [name]Emrys[/name] [name]Alaric[/name] is a lovely combo…the flow is just beautiful. It is a lot of high profile heroes all at once though!
I love the imagery you have associated with Faramond…given the woodsy hunstman vibe, I think this is the perfect place to use some of your beloved [name]Robin[/name] Hood names. I’m also gravitating towards bird and tree names this time around.
Faramond [name]Tiberius[/name] [name]Heron[/name]*
Faramond [name]Sylvan[/name] Loxley*
Faramond [name]Perseus[/name] [name]Robin[/name]*
Faramond [name]Griffin[/name] Westfall
Faramond Artegal [name]Sparrow[/name] (did Boyfriend decide Artegal was too much? I don’t recall)
Faramond [name]Sherwood[/name] [name]Emrys[/name]
Faramond [name]Percival[/name] [name]Falcon[/name] (I feel like [name]Percival[/name], despite its powerful literary history, is one of those names that has the unfortunate similarity to the word “prissy,” and thus needs a strong rugged word name to back him up. Something like [name]Hawk[/name] or [name]Falcon[/name] or Bracken or even [name]Wilder[/name])
Faramond [name]Walen[/name] [name]Demetrius[/name] ([name]Walen[/name] being a variation of [name]Wayland[/name] to avoid the two -nd endings back to back; [name]Demetrius[/name] meaning “lover of the earth”)
Faramond [name]Aquila[/name] (or [name]Aquilo[/name] if you find the former too feminine) [name]Rohan[/name] (I feel like with all the Romans and Rowans and Ronans in the world, [name]Rohan[/name] could fit right in…and the Riders go perfectly with your imagery!)
Faramond Westfall [name]Adair[/name] (from the oak tree ford)
Others I like, but haven’t thought of a combo for:
[name]Acker[/name] or [name]Ackerley[/name] - meadow of oak trees
Orrick - old oak tree
[name]Heath[/name]
[name]Orson[/name]
Westernesse
Osprey
[name]Wilder[/name]
[name]Peregrine[/name]
Wow, Faramond [name]Faulkner[/name] [name]Holt[/name] is pretty darn fantastic. [name]Faulkner[/name] makes me think of a) [name]William[/name] [name]Faulkner[/name], one of my favorite American writers and the centerpiece of what I consider the area of the country with the richest literary heritage, b) the scenes in The Once and [name]Future[/name] [name]King[/name] where Wart and [name]Kay[/name] and everyone take the falcons into the forrest and it all goes horribly for poor Wart, but it’s a rich image, c) a dear friend who has this last name. I love it for a middle name. I know you aren’t American so the [name]William[/name] [name]Faulkner[/name] association might not be as meaningful, but the OaFK is an image with dark trees and shadows, and mist, and approaching night, and leather gloves, and sad little boys who got lost in it all. Very romantic, but very human.
I also love [name]Alaric[/name]. As someone said, the soft consonants of Faramond go very nicely with the hard “c” in [name]Alaric[/name]. I also really like [name]Sylvan[/name]. It’s one of my favorite names in general, but could go really well with one of your names. I might save it for one of your other names that’s a little harder in sound since “[name]Sylvan[/name]” is very smooth.
Sessh, thank you, these are great! I love Faramond [name]Perseus[/name] [name]Robin[/name], it’s amazing! [name]Tiberius[/name] [name]Heron[/name] and [name]Sylvan[/name] Loxley as well! Boyfriend is fine with Artegal, not with [name]Sparrow[/name] (“why would you name a child after a tiny little bird?”). And I love [name]Rohan[/name], very cool! I want to like [name]Demetrius[/name], but I do not like the character from A Midsummer Nights [name]Dream[/name]. That association is too strong for me unfortunately.
[name]Lori[/name], thank you, Faramond Westfall Lohengrin is very nice!
[name]Sparrow[/name], I love [name]William[/name] [name]Faulkner[/name], As I [name]Lay[/name] Dying and [name]Light[/name] in [name]August[/name] are two of my favourite novels. And the scene you’re describing from The Once and [name]Future[/name] [name]King[/name]… so powerful. [name]Love[/name] that book!!! Thank you! And [name]Sylvan[/name] is great, might go with [name]Rainier[/name] maybe.
Done with the girls, so I can focus on this one now! What do we think? I have a favourite, but would like to hear other peoples opinions (and they’re listed alphabetically, not in order of preference!)!
