My husband and I just found out that our son [name]Benjamin[/name] will be getting a little sister. From day one, I’ve had the name [name]Eliza[/name] in my mind as what our little girl’s name would be. Now I find out that my husband doesn’t like the name…at all!
I’m really having a hard time choosing any name that we can agree on or having that magical “this is the one” moment. To make matters a little harder, I come from a very large family and would love to find something that hasn’t been used yet, and I’m a teacher which means that lots of names have been ruined for me by various students.
Here are some names I like but my husband doesn’t or that have already been used by my family to give you an idea of my taste:
[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Marilla[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I feel you, Petalpusher! I may be the name expert, but my husband also heartily dislikes the name [name]Eliza[/name] – which has long been one of my personal favorites. So much to my dismay he ruled it out for our daughter and it was difficult for me to come up with another girls’ name. I also like some of your other choices so maybe if I list some of the names I might have liked to use for another girl, they’ll connect with your taste too:
[name]Marguerite[/name] – This is a name I didn’t like so much when I was having children but that I love now. I also very much like the nicknames [name]Daisy[/name] or [name]Maisie[/name]…
[name]Flora[/name] – Runner-up to [name]Eliza[/name] but someone talked us out of it, to my eternal regret.
[name]Cordelia[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name] – A bit popular now, but so is [name]Eliza[/name]
I’ve tried [name]Hazel[/name], but it was quickly turned down. I already have nieces named [name]Anna[/name], [name]Emma[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Gianna[/name] and [name]Claire[/name] so those names or anything close to them is all out.
He likes:
[name]Edith[/name] (It’s okay to me…but I’m not in love)
[name]Adele[/name]/[name]Adela[/name] (Also nice, but again not love)
[name]Adelaide[/name] (pretty name but there is an [name]Adeline[/name] in the family)
I would say our style is definitely old fashioned, uncommon names, but still nothing too out there.
[name]Lucienne[/name] ([name]Lucy[/name])
[name]Annabel[/name] (I like this with [name]Benjamin[/name])
[name]Elodie[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] (a little bit different from [name]Edith[/name] but along the same lines)
[name]Etta[/name]
[name]Elise[/name]
[name]Sariah[/name]
[name]Marcella[/name] ([name]Stella[/name])
[name]Norah[/name]
[name]Isadora[/name]
[name]Elianna[/name]
Wow! Lots of great suggestions. I’m going to read them to my husband and see if this will spark anything!
I’m liking [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Etta[/name], and [name]Flora[/name] so far.
Too funny- we just had a baby [name]Eliza[/name] who would have been a [name]Benjamin[/name] if she was a boy!
Our alternates for [name]Eliza[/name] were [name]Cora[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name] (ruled out as we couldn’t agree on the nn), [name]Ava[/name] (ruled out as too popular), and [name]Audrey[/name] (our initial first choice but ruled out when dh’s brother named his baby who was born 6 weeks before our baby [name]Aubrie[/name].)
My suggestions:
[name]Beatrix[/name] (different spelling of [name]Beatrice[/name]. Nicknames [name]Bea[/name] or [name]Trixie[/name] ([name]Trixie[/name] is better suited for a dog in my opinion. Means "bringer of happiness, which is fitting considering: What baby isn’t a bringer of happiness?))
[name]Elizabeth[/name] ([name]Eliza[/name] with a [name]Beth[/name]. Classic name. Nickname could be [name]Eliza[/name].)
