Please indulge me by letting me know which of my current top 12 (incl “GP”) you would choose for an actual, real life baby if you only had this list - real life as distinct from your NB triplets (who are all beautiful too, I love them, but you know what I mean). Thanks
- Josephine
- Mary
- Ursuline/Ursula
- Rose
- Zoe
- Romy (“Rommy”)
- Claudia
- Imogen
- Constance
- Kyrie
- Marlowe
- Anoushka
Always, always, always [name_f]Rose[/name_f], but [name_f]Constance[/name_f] is lovely too!

For a real life baby I would go with [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. It’s a beautiful classic

Here’s my dilemma with this list: I would go with [name_m]Kyrie[/name_m] but it’s much too close to my own name to choose for a daughter but I don’t like any of the others well enough to pick them/have had bad experiences with people with a few of these names so…
I love so many [name_f]Rose[/name_f] names (Rosalind, [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], Rosaline), but I went with [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (I feel like it stands out a little more than Rose?), [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] (was my paternal grandmother’s name), and [name_f]Constance[/name_f] (I’ve never really considered this one before but am totally digging it with our last name).

I think I’d choose between:
[name_f]Marlowe[/name_f] → lovely sound and meaning
[name_f]Romy[/name_f] → charming, bubbly and lovely
[name_f]Constance[/name_f] → strong but sweet, vintage and solid with sparkly nicknames [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] and [name_f]Coco[/name_f]
[name_f]Romy[/name_f] would usually me my go to, but I pronounce it RO-mee, so, I think if I was to narrow it down, today, I’m going with [name_f]Marlowe[/name_f]

I may have done [name_f]Romy[/name_f] a dirty, @Greyblue I have always said Ro-mee too but I met a mum and her baby [name_f]Romy[/name_f] in the park a few months ago, and she introduced her as “Rommy”, and then I remembered a [name_f]Romy[/name_f] I vaguely knew as a teen who was more German-sounding, “Raw-mee” (but Raw almost Rom). I sudiect the mother I met in park trying to go for a more Germanic sound. But I’ve always otherwise said and thought “Ro-mee”, till I suddenly second guessed…
Thanks for your thoughts! [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Marlowe[/name_f] getting love!

I probably should have been cleared that this could be (fingers crossed) for my own future daughter (so OK if sounds like your name etc)
Sure. You just stated “which of my current top 12 you would choose” so I was explaining why I like [name_m]Kyrie[/name_m] but personally would not choose it.
You are, of course, able to choose it lol
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], always [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]! You have some beautiful names on this list but [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] is one of my favorites of all time. She’s so, so, so international, seems cutesy and young but then there are empresses named [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] and I’ve met a couple Zoe’s who are probably in their 70s or 80s now and they were so gracious and kind and lovely and wise. That gives [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] dept for me. [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] had such a beautiful meaning (life!) and I love that it is an actual word used in the [name_m]New[/name_m] Testament… it’s a fun tie to my own faith in a non-obvious way. I love the zippy Z. I just love everything about [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] and it makes me so happy to see others love her too!
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] would’ve been my pick before I saw [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] and [name_f]Romy[/name_f]. I don’t love her but I do love her aesthetic and I love that I can get some of my favorite nns (Fia, [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], Posy) from her.
[name_f]Romy[/name_f] would’ve competed easily with [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] but I also prefer row-me. [name_f]Romy[/name_f] to rhyme with mommy reminds me of [name_f]Romilly[/name_f], which I’m not as fond of.
[name_f]Claudia[/name_f] probably would’ve been my third pick, she’s the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] form of one of my favorite historical heroes (Gladys Aylward) and I’ve always loved her! She’s so unexpected and I haven’t known any Claudia’s who haven’t been ridiculously lovely.
Thanks for all your thoughts @ashthedreamer. These would be my top 4 of the list, with Rose and Mary nipping at heels. Zoe is a late entry for me but would go well with our last name, which isn’t especially easy - sounds like Theroux/Thurlow (Marlowe probably a non-starter for that reason). Zoe feels so fresh and self-assured.
I hear you on Romy - see above re recent wobble on that. Have only ever said Roamee until heard otherwise on real baby. The nicest thing about the Rommy pronunciation for an Australia accents is it’s less nasally than Roamee can sound. When push came to it, would probably use Roamee - good to get a reality check on that.
Josephine and Claudia are names I’ve adored since I was a youngster. Josephine for me, for Posey, Josie, Sephie or Phina, and because it’s French, a bit breathy while also being authoritative. Claudia is a (good) hot gal name to me - not a mean girl, mind. Going to have to look up your hero.

I really like [name_f]Ursula[/name_f]!
Me too! @SpringtimeDreams I’m trying to get love for her all the time - unjust treatment due to Disney, I swear. I have a second cousin who lives in Germany, called Ursula nn Ursie. It’s so pretty to me.
I’VE FOUND MY PEOPLE (a whole 2 others). I’ve been trying to push for the name [name_f]Ursula[/name_f] for ages, it’s like one of my favorite names ever, damn [name_f]Disney[/name_f] for messing it up

[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] are two of my top and long-time favourites, so they got my vote easily.
[name_f]My[/name_f] third pick was [name_f]Claudia[/name_f], which is another I really like but usually forget about. I think of it as a [name_m]German[/name_m] name thanks to [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] Schiffer, but also as artsy and free-spirited because of the character of [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] in the Baby-Sitters Club (which I still love even as an adult now).
I think [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] would be the more fit-in choices for today; [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] would stand out a little more, which I like.

If we had a daughter [name_f]Mary[/name_f] would be one of the first names I’d consider. If [name_f]Mary[/name_f] was off the table, then I would think about [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] which has been on my list in the past and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] that I’ve warmed to more recently.
I think in Australia, [name_f]Romy[/name_f] is most likely to be pronounced as [name_m]Rommy[/name_m]. That’s the way I pronounce it. The ROW-mee pronunciation sounds [name_m]North[/name_m] American to my ears.

Husband won’t go for it because of the evil connotations. “Oh why can’t he see what I can see” (sung in a [name_f]Disney[/name_f] voice).
I’m so confused re [name_f]Romy[/name_f] pronunciation after meeting an Aussie [name_m]Rommy[/name_m] (Romy) newborn but having only ever thinking of it (as an Aussie) as Roamy or else the [name_m]German[/name_m] RRawmee (lol) from the actress.
Nice to meet another [name_f]Mary[/name_f] fan. Suspect I’d feel like I’d be missing out on something fancier by choosing it but truly, there are some days when I think it’s the prettiest and most dignified of the lot.
If you have time, my middles - all family names (though [name_f]Ursula[/name_f] cheeky as distant family, rest actual honours) - does [name_f]Mary[/name_f] especially work with any combo?
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] (too Nun-like?)
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Christine[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] [name_f]Ursula[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] [name_f]Laura[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_m]Or[/name_m] another?
To be fair, the pronunciation you’ve been using for [name_f]Romy[/name_f] follows the general rule for long vowel sounds. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like [name_m]Toby[/name_m] is a long vowel sound and [name_m]Robby[/name_m] is short.
The only thing that would hold me back with [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is that our surname is awfully common. I would be tempted to go for a double first name to jazz it up. Would that hold any appeal to you?
Dignified is a great descriptor for [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I think it can ground any combination, and all these feel very solid. Initial thoughts are:
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] – Feels very closed with the position of the ‘n’ sounds. I would prefer the flow of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. All three names are very traditional, so it’s perhaps a little one note.
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] – Has a really nice feeling. [name_f]Laura[/name_f] feels more classic than traditional so not as heavy as the combination above. Probably my second favourite from your list.
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Christine[/name_f] – [name_f]Christine[/name_f] and [name_f]Laura[/name_f] feel slightly dated together so I don’t like this combination quite as much.
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] [name_f]Ursula[/name_f] – I’m not feeling this even though all the names are gorgeous. Both middle names are bold so perhaps they’re competing too much with each other.
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] [name_f]Laura[/name_f] – Feels very tailored. I think the style is so cohesive that none of the names are able to stand out.
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] – I might’ve gasped when I read this. I love the rhythm of the combination and I think the names find a good balance without overshadowing each other. This is the stand out for me.
If I’m remembering correctly, it also strikes me that your daughter’s second middle name is [name_m]French[/name_m]. So it is also for this reason that I’m enjoying those combinations on your list.
I’m also liking:
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Christine[/name_f] [name_f]Ursula[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] [name_f]Ursula[/name_f]
