Favorite boy names from my list? šŸ¦Š

Miles

Adam

Fraser

James ā€œJamieā€

Christopher ā€œKitā€

Rowan (does the ā€œWā€ make it sound too peanut buttery (amorphous)?)

Rory (same question as to Robin ā€“ too feminine?)

Dean (I always thought Dean from Gilmore Girls was sooo cute with his 90s curtain hair and James Dean, but Iā€™m not sure if this name is dated)

Jesse

Leo

Kieran

August

Sebastian (although I donā€™t really like a lot of the nns  If you do like one of the nns, please let me know as Iā€™d like to know your perspective)

I have [name_u]Robin[/name_u] on my list as well, and he will always be my favourite! I actually love that heā€™s a bit feminine- so many girls are being given masculine names, and I think a little feminine on boys is just as cool. It just makes them really sweet! (I also love the [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] [name_u]Robin[/name_u] connection.)
[name_u]Bobbie[/name_u] is adorable! (I personally like [name_f]Roberta[/name_f] nn [name_u]Bobbie[/name_u] on a girl, but thatā€™s the only reason I donā€™t have him as a nn for Robin.)

[name_f]My[/name_f] next favourites are:
[name_m]Christopher[/name_m] (Kit is another favourite of mine- so sharp and bright!)
[name_u]Dean[/name_u] (Dated cute in the best way!)
[name_u]Jesse[/name_u] (Love on a boy- really cool and kind of rugged, outdoor vibes)

I love:

[name_u]Robin[/name_u] (I donā€™t think itā€™s too feminine :person_shrugging: )

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] (this one has always sounded earthy and warm to me but with substance)

[name_u]Rory[/name_u] (love this, gentle but rugged. It still ranks higher for boys)

[name_m]Marcel[/name_m] (knew such a sweet kid called [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] once. Itā€™s a tough, strong name with a gentle, cuddly sound to it too)

[name_u]Jesse[/name_u] (nice meaning and sound!)

[name_u]August[/name_u] (warm and friendly, but cool and smart too)

[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] (I go back and forth on [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], but I quite like it, today at least. [name_m]Bastian[/name_m] is my fave nickname (although I think I prefer just Bastianā€¦) - it sounds distinctive and elegant to me.

[name_u]Jasper[/name_u] (gives me mystical, magical vibes, without being out there, but also sleek and stylish vibes, like polished gemstones)

[name_u]Evan[/name_u] (simple, gentle but solid)

I love so many names from your list!

[name_u]Miles[/name_u]
[name_m]Adam[/name_m]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_u]Dean[/name_u]
[name_u]Leo[/name_u]

I can speak to the question about [name_u]Rory[/name_u] because my first son is named [name_u]Rory[/name_u]. No, I donā€™t think most people you encounter will consider it too feminine. And if they do, thatā€™s a direct clue that they are ā€œGilmore Girlsā€ fans, because the name has a long history of use for only men, and it still is purely masculine in most countries that use it. We know of 4 Rorys besides ours, and only one of them is female. There is also one girl named [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] that is occasionally called [name_u]Rory[/name_u] by family. Itā€™s rising in popularity in the US for boys, so as it gets more familiar, the [name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] association will wane. And we get comments all the time about how people have always loved that name and like hearing it, which I love.

I also think [name_u]Dean[/name_u] is strapping and handsome. It doesnā€™t feel dated to me. I wish I met more Deans.

[name_m]Adam[/name_m] (Itā€™s the name of a friend of mine)
[name_u]James[/name_u] ( It wouldnā€™t be a nickname for Jamie)
[name_m]Christopher[/name_m] ( I would use [name_u]Chris[/name_u] as a nickname because I donā€™t like Kit)
[name_u]Jesse[/name_u] (Itā€™s the name of a friend of mine that passed away this month back in 2001)
[name_u]Leo[/name_u] ( I love it because itā€™s short, simple and cute)
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] ( I love it no reason for I just I love)

I strongly dislike [name_u]Robin[/name_u] for a boy, but thatā€™s a personal thing. (Iā€™ve met some horrible Robins!) I do like [name_u]Robbie[/name_u] as as nn, classic and handsome.

[name_u]Miles[/name_u], [name_m]Adam[/name_m], [name_m]Fraser[/name_m], [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_u]Leo[/name_u], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] (Ro?), [name_u]Rory[/name_u], are all lovely.

I personally like [name_m]Seb[/name_m] (didnā€™t initially, but it grew on me) and Iā€™ve met some great Sebastians that go by [name_m]Seb[/name_m], Sebby, Bash, [name_m]Bastian[/name_m], andā€¦Seabass! ;). [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Jasper[/name_u], love [name_u]Jazz[/name_u] as a nickname even more. Wished it was used more often!

Robin is SO enchanting, isnā€™t it? :bird: I totally agree with you that itā€™s thrilling to imagine reclaiming a gender neutral name for boys so that they too can dabble in the ā€œin-betweenā€ and not just girls named James and Austin. Not that thereā€™s anything wrong with girls name James and Austin, but I want to extend the same possibility to boys!

Kit is ā€œsharp and brightā€ ā€“ what a perfect description. It makes me think of kite-flying on windy April days with soothing blue skies and deep green fields. Kit Harrington is a dreamy association, too

@Greyblue I always look forward to your comments ā€“ you give the kindest, most vivid depictions in just a few words.

I only recently stumbled across the name Marcel, so Iā€™m glad youā€™re a fan as well as itā€™s the newest addition to my list.

Bastian is a dashing nickname! It has that rakish quality I adore.

I agree with all of your commentary! Jasper does have a bit of moxie to it, doesnā€™t it? It sounds spirited and alluring, like you said.

@somemelodioussonnet Rory is just the cuddliest, most handsome name :teddy_bear: Your son is lucky to have such a gorgeous name. You know a name is great when people often remark about how lovely it is (not just here and there, but frequently).

Rory and Dean would be a cute pairing if it werenā€™t for the GG association! I agree, though, that Dean is strangely underused, but strapping and handsome :evergreen_tree:

@9Faith3 My condolences on the loss of your friend, Jesse. What a special memory for you :candle:

Leo and Sebastian would be a cute subset!

@3dashinggents I totally get where youā€™re coming from with Robin because even though I love it, I know what itā€™s like to have a name ruined by negative associations.

Seabass is an utterly ADORABLE nn for Sebastian, I gotta admit! :fish:

Jazz for Jasper would also be a great nickname!

Thank you, everyone, for your comments! :hearts: :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :revolving_hearts:

I love pretty much your whole list! In fact, the only ones I donā€™t like are [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] and [name_m]Fraser[/name_m].

[name_u]Robin[/name_u] & [name_u]Rory[/name_u] - Not too feminine at all! In fact, Iā€™ve known of both a female and a male [name_u]Robin[/name_u] in my life, and they both wore it well! Also backing the comment that any link to [name_u]Rory[/name_u] being too feminine, most likely comes from [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls fans, as [name_u]Rory[/name_u] has a long history of male use!

[name_u]James[/name_u] nn [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] is so sweet, I love it!

[name_u]Dean[/name_u] seems pretty popular amongst the Nameberry boards, so I think while he may be a bit dated, heā€™s also ready for a comeback!

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite nn for [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] is actually a very uncommon one - [name_u]Sasha[/name_u]. While typically a nn for [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], I love him for [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] because heā€™s got all the sounds there! I think as somebody who loves [name_u]Robin[/name_u], [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] and [name_u]Jesse[/name_u], youā€™d love [name_u]Sasha[/name_u]! [name_f]My[/name_f] second favorite is [name_u]Ashton[/name_u] or [name_u]Ash[/name_u]!

[name_u]Nico[/name_u] is such a handsome, underrated name and Iā€™m glad to see it on another list!

I love [name_u]Miles[/name_u] and [name_u]Dean[/name_u]!

Iā€™ve never thought about whether or not the latter is dated. It probably is, yet I find it so charming. Itā€™s one of those ā€œunique but not unusualā€ type of names.

I donā€™t think [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] sounds amorphous. For [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] I like the nicknames [name_m]Seb[/name_m] and Sebas. Iā€™m not really sure what you mean with [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] sounding raspy/shifty but I donā€™t think it does.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

Here are my thoughts-

[name_u]Robin[/name_u] (maybe with the nn Bobby) (I love [name_u]Robin[/name_u] because of [name_u]Robin[/name_u] Williams/Christopher [name_u]Robin[/name_u], but is it too feminine for a boy in the US?)-I donā€™t know if itā€™s too feminine. I find it more charming for a boy. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the bird imagery. Iā€™m not sure that I personally love [name_u]Bobby[/name_u], but it is creative. I like the nn [name_m]Ben[/name_m] or [name_m]Benny[/name_m] if anything.

Miles-I really like [name_u]Milo[/name_u], but am lukewarm on [name_u]Miles[/name_u]. I think that itā€™s just really over done in my area, so it doesnā€™t do much for me. Itā€™s not unpleasant though.

Adam-This is fine. Itā€™s a name that I want to like more, but am not that excited about the way it sounds. I like that itā€™s classic & simple & not over done.

Fraser-I really donā€™t like the sound of this, & it reminds me so much of the TV show.

Matteo-Iā€™m really picky about this & need it to be [name_m]Mateo[/name_m]. Not sure why! Itā€™s a handsome name though.

[name_u]James[/name_u] ā€œJamieā€-James is a lovely classic. I prefer just [name_u]James[/name_u] or the nn [name_u]Jem[/name_u]. [name_u]Or[/name_u] Jass! [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] is kind of cute; I can see the appeal. [name_f]My[/name_f] sisterā€™s name is [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] though, so it leans feminine to me.

[name_m]Christopher[/name_m] ā€œKitā€-This is nice. I love [name_u]Kit[/name_u] on a boy or a girl! [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] is a good solid name. I donā€™t like [name_u]Chris[/name_u] at all, but doing exclusively [name_u]Kit[/name_u] should avoid that.

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] (does the ā€œWā€ make it sound too peanut buttery (amorphous)?)-I donā€™t know if the ā€˜wā€™ makes it sound peanut buttery, but I like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]! Itā€™s oddly popular, but a beautiful name. Similar vibe as [name_u]Robin[/name_u] (and similarly used for girls sometimes, even though itā€™s way boyish to me.) Gentle and woodsy.

[name_u]Rory[/name_u] (same question as to [name_u]Robin[/name_u] ā€“ too feminine?)-I donā€™t think itā€™s too feminine; this one I think is maybe used more for boys. I think itā€™s cute, but kind of hard to say.

Marcel-This is different, but just not my cup of tea. Not sure why. Maybe Iā€™m just not used to it.

[name_u]Dean[/name_u] (I always thought [name_u]Dean[/name_u] from [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls was sooo cute with his 90s curtain hair and [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Dean[/name_u], but Iā€™m not sure if this name is dated)-Nah, itā€™s not dated. Itā€™s ready for a comeback. I donā€™t love the sound for some reason, but itā€™s an interesting choice.

Jesse-This gives me a similar vibe as Dean; kind of a cool cowboy. I donā€™t love it myself, but itā€™s not bad.

Leo-Super adorable & super popular.

Kieran-I have a nephew named [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] spelled this way. Heā€™s great, but eight years later I still wish it were [name_m]Ciaran[/name_m]. [name_u]Kieran[/name_u] is more well known. His name still confused people sometimes, but once people figure it out everyone loves it.

August-I like it a lot. Very handsome and manly but feels kind. I mainly love it for the nns [name_u]Augie[/name_u] & [name_u]Gus[/name_u]. Itā€™s a tad common, but a great old fashioned name.

[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] (although I donā€™t really like a lot of the nns  If you do like one of the nns, please let me know as Iā€™d like to know your perspective)-This is artsy & handsome. I like the nns [name_m]Satch[/name_m] & Bash!

[name_u]Jasper[/name_u] (does this name sound raspy/shifty?)-Oh my gosh, it does sound shifty. Iā€™ve never liked this name, & shifty is the word that Iā€™ve been looking for to describe how Iā€™d find a [name_u]Jasper[/name_u]!

Evan-I love [name_m]Ewan[/name_m], but somehow [name_u]Evan[/name_u] just seems too 90s/early 2000s.

Nico-Really cute. Smart & slightly exotic but short & simple.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.
