Favorite girl names and why

[name]Anya[/name] [name]Angelina[/name]- I have always loved the name [name]Anya[/name]. It is unusual and slightly exotic, yet not off the wall or ridiculous. Most people have heard the name but would never think to bestow it on a child. [name]Angelina[/name], I have always had a crush on too, and it has great nicknames- [name]Angie[/name], [name]Lina[/name], [name]Annie[/name], [name]Angel[/name]- but I wouldn’t use it as a first name because of strong celeb connection. Middle name though would be perfect. [name]Anya[/name] [name]Angelina[/name] has a lot of a’s in it, but to me it’s a very feminine yet strong name.

[name]Leah[/name] [name]Cassandra[/name]- I have always loved [name]Leah[/name], and the nickname [name]Lee[/name], even though it’s so popular. It’s a very sweet and simple name, classic, and I could see any type of girl named [name]Leah[/name]. [name]Cassandra[/name] is one of those where I love the full name, like the nicknames, but would prefer she not be a [name]Cassie[/name] or [name]Cass[/name] for life, so it’s best in the middle name slot- another classic and feminine beauty.

[name]Alessandra[/name] [name]Mary[/name]- [name]Alessandra[/name] is beautiful and unusual, exotic but not ridiculous on a white child, and I like [name]Ali[/name] and [name]Alice[/name] as potential nicknames. [name]Mary[/name] is classic and sweet, and would honor my mother and great great grandmother, both whom are [name]Marys[/name].

[name]Caroline[/name] [name]Michaela[/name]- [name]Caroline[/name] is strong and classic, yet could be any girl- [name]Carrie[/name] and [name]Caro[/name] are decent nicknames, and it’s not overly popular. [name]Michaela[/name] I have always loved, and when spelled correctly is lovely and also honors my brother, whose middle name is [name]Michael[/name].

[name]Susannah[/name] [name]Lenore[/name]- a literary-based favorite of mine- [name]Susannah[/name] comes from The Dark [name]Tower[/name] series by [name]Stephen[/name] [name]King[/name], and embodies classic femininity and sweetness with strength. I don’t mind the nicknames [name]Susan[/name] or [name]Susie[/name] either. [name]Lenore[/name] comes from [name]Poe[/name]’s works, and as he is one of my favorite authors, the two put together make a strong and unusual choice.

[name]Jade[/name] [name]Antonia[/name]- [name]Antonia[/name] is a very unusual and lovely name, strong and spirited, but not one I would use as a first name; [name]Jade[/name] is polished and strong, and together they make a strong name.

[name]Alicia[/name] [name]Cordelia[/name]- [name]Alicia[/name] is not used often, and makes a feminine but well-known name, with [name]Ali[/name] as a potential nickname. [name]Cordelia[/name] I think is a strong and gorgeous name, but I associate it too much with [name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Chase[/name] from [name]Buffy[/name] to give as a first name.

Liadah [name]Cristina[/name]- Liadah is a name I made up long ago, which I think is pretty and more unusual than [name]Lia[/name], with [name]Lia[/name] as a potential nickname. [name]Cristina[/name] I have always liked as a middle name, and I like the Italian version without the h better aesthetically.

Rikarah [name]Jade[/name]- another name I made up, I think it sounds strong, pretty, and unusual, and I like the nickname potentials of [name]Rika[/name], [name]Riki[/name], and [name]Kara[/name]

[name]Jessamine[/name] [name]Faith[/name]- I love [name]Jessica[/name], but [name]Jessamine[/name] is more unusual. [name]Love[/name] the nicknames of [name]Jessa[/name], [name]Jess[/name], and [name]Jessie[/name], and this would also honor my deceased friend [name]Jessica[/name]. [name]Faith[/name] I love as a name, a virtue, and is also a tv character who has had meaning to my life.

Others I like: [name]Delilah[/name] [name]Claire[/name], [name]Shana[/name] [name]Ariadne[/name], [name]Audrina[/name] [name]Rosemary[/name], [name]Mara[/name] [name]Angelina[/name], [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Emmanuella[/name], [name]Antonia[/name] [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Francesca[/name]

Wow- we like a lot of the same names! I love [name]Anya[/name] [name]Angelina[/name], [name]Alessandra[/name] [name]Mary[/name], [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Lenore[/name] (love [name]Poe[/name], he’s my favorite), [name]Jade[/name] [name]Antonia[/name], [name]Kara[/name], [name]Jessamine[/name] [name]Faith[/name], [name]Delila[/name], [name]Audrina[/name] and [name]Lydia[/name]! Whew!

Names I like:

[name]Dalila[/name]- Sheds the whole bad Bible reference, but keeps the sound of [name]Delilah[/name]. Lilting, exotic and comes equipped with “Hey There [name]Delilah[/name]”.
[name]Indigo[/name]- Begins with I, ends with O and is totally unique. [name]Indigo[/name] (nn [name]Indie[/name]) has a personality all its own.
[name]Flora[/name]- The [name]Roman[/name] goddess of flowers, which are small things that bloom. Is anything more appropriate for a little one?
[name]Oceane[/name]- Chic French name with a pronunciation that dissects the word ocean- as gross as that sounds- and finds beauty in every hidden crevice.
[name]Hollis[/name]- Has the adorable nn [name]Holly[/name], but projects to me the image of a smart, outgoing girl with a businesswoman attitude (does that make sense?).

I really like [name]Mara[/name] [name]Angelina[/name] and [name]Lenore[/name] from your list!

Mine:

[name]Isabelle[/name] [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Grace[/name] - I found [name]Isabelle[/name] in the TV show Alias (well, that’s where I fell for it from… I’d heard it many times before that), and I just fell in love with everything about it–its meaning (my God is a vow), its French air, the nn [name]Belle[/name]/[name]Bella[/name]/[name]Ella[/name], the way it sounds when I say it, the way it feels chic and sweet all at once. I absolutely adore it. [name]Aurora[/name] was a name I loved, but I didn’t think it fit that well with my surname (which is very “R” heavy), and I loved that it means “dawn”. I hope that it’ll one day remind my children that they’ll always have a new day and can always start over again. [name]Grace[/name] is in honor of my grandmother.

[name]Arianne[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Kate[/name] - [name]Arianne[/name] is a name I’ve loved for about 2, maybe even 3, years now. I love the nn [name]Ari[/name] and the sound of it and that it means “very holy one”. I think [name]Isabelle[/name] and [name]Arianne[/name] sound so good together, and I love how unheard of [name]Arianne[/name] is, despite the fact that [name]Arianna[/name] and [name]Ariana[/name] are quite well-known. I’d paired it with [name]Noelle[/name] (and then [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Noelle[/name]) for the longest time, but then I fell for [name]Arianne[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]/[name]Ariana[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] as a combo, and I haven’t looked back. I just love the timeless, classy feel of [name]Eleanor[/name]. [name]Kate[/name] is in honor of my mom.

[name]Olivia[/name] [name]Wren[/name] [name]Camille[/name] - I’ve always quite liked [name]Olivia[/name] ([name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Olivia[/name] was my favorite girls’ name about 4 years ago, when I first started to get serious about names), but it took a while for me to love [name]Olivia[/name] as a FN. Now I can’t imagine not loving it. I love its allusions to peace and [name]Shakespeare[/name], and it’s such a strong, beautiful, girly name. I love the nns [name]Olive[/name] and [name]Liv[/name]/[name]Livy[/name]. [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Wren[/name] was on my list when I still had only one-MN combos, but when I went to two MNs, I dropped it. I couldn’t make my other combos work, so I came back to [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Wren[/name], and I’ve always had a thing for [name]Wren[/name] [name]Camille[/name] as a combo, too, so I put both combos together, and I haven’t looked back! I love [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Wren[/name] [name]Camille[/name]. [name]Wren[/name] honors my grandma and mom.

[name]Violet[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Claire[/name] - I’ve loved [name]Violet[/name] for several years, but I didn’t have the guts to go for it until I joined Nameberry. Now I can’t imagine it not being in my top 5. Some days I think it’s in my top 2. Purple’s my favorite color, so I love the references to that, and it’s also my grandmother’s favorite color, and my dad and other grandmother’s birthflower, so I love that it has so many associations to my family. [name]Ophelia[/name] I just like, and I paired [name]Violet[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Claire[/name] up when I saw [name]Violet[/name] [name]Diana[/name] and [name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Clare[/name] on someone else’s list years ago… [name]Claire[/name] honors my dad and brother.

[name]Rachel[/name] [name]Clara[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] - I love the timeless, charming, Biblical feel of [name]Rachel[/name]… I know it doesn’t fit as well as the others on my list do, but I can’t help but adore it! The [name]Rachel[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] part honors my sister, and [name]Clara[/name] honors my dad and brother, again.

[name]Eleni[/name] [name]Giovanna[/name] - no second MN here yet. I love [name]Eleni[/name]'s girly, spunky, sprightly, sweet, European feel, and that it honors my sister. [name]Giovanna[/name] honors my dad and brother. I’m thinking maybe [name]Eleni[/name] [name]Giovanna[/name] [name]Claire[/name] or [name]Eleni[/name] [name]Giovanna[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]…

[name]Liliana[/name] [name]Odette[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] - [name]Love[/name] the princessy feel of [name]Liliana[/name]! The last gift my grandmother gave me before she died was a [name]Lily[/name], and my other grandmother’s MN ([name]Grace[/name]) is what [name]Ana[/name] means, so I like how [name]Liliana[/name] honors both my grandmothers. [name]Odette[/name] I just love, and [name]Pearl[/name] is my sister’s birthstone.

[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Eden[/name] [name]Rue[/name]/[name]Noelle[/name] - I’ve loved [name]Charlotte[/name] for a long time. I love its classy, classic feel while still retaining a bit of spunk. No wonder people use it so much. [name]Eden[/name] has spiritual significance, and [name]Rue[/name] and [name]Noelle[/name] have family significance. [name]Noelle[/name] would honor just my sister; [name]Rue[/name] would honor my sister and my grandmother.

[name]Josephine[/name]/[name]Sophia[/name]/[name]Hannah[/name] “[name]Posey[/name]/[name]Hannah[/name]” - I can’t decide what’s going to go here… I absolutely love [name]Posey[/name], but I’m not sure I love any of the longer forms. I’m currently trying out [name]Sophia[/name], but I’m not sure if it feels too overdone for me… I love [name]Hannah[/name] because it honors my grandma. For combos, I am leaning toward [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Emilia[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] “[name]Posey[/name]”, [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Iris[/name] [name]Kate[/name] “[name]Posey[/name]”, and [name]Hannah[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] _____…

[name]Daphne[/name] [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] - not sure I even love [name]Daphne[/name] anymore, but I’ve liked it for a long time, and it finishes out my top 10. I love the full, girly, striking image of [name]Daphne[/name], and I love [name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name] paired with it. [name]Ruby[/name] honors my grandmother and sister.

I really like [name]Jessamine[/name] [name]Faith[/name], [name]Alessandra[/name] [name]Mary[/name], [name]Delilah[/name] [name]Claire[/name], [name]Audrina[/name] [name]Rosemary[/name], [name]Jade[/name] [name]Antonia[/name], [name]Antonia[/name] [name]Catherine[/name], & [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Francesca[/name] as combos.

Mine:

[name]Iris[/name] [name]Vanessa[/name] [name]Maeve[/name] ~ [name]Iris[/name] is the name of a flower obviously which I really like but it’s also the name of Greek [name]Goddess[/name] of the rainbow. [name]Iris[/name] is a name I can always remember liking also! [name]Vanessa[/name] is a name I only recently started liking it used to sound dated to me but since I’ve actually looked into the name, I really like it. It’s a literary invention, it’s also a species of butterfly…I love butterfly’s soo much! [name]Maeve[/name] is one of my most favorite one syllable girl names, in means intoxicating and I actually really like the meaning.

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Wren[/name] ~ [name]Clara[/name] means clear; bright; & famous which I love, I also really like the sound of [name]Clara[/name] it’s a nice alternative to overused [name]Claire[/name]. [name]Magnolia[/name] seems so fresh and I’m really into flower & nature names. [name]Wren[/name] is the name of a song bird, I also really like the sound of [name]Wren[/name] it seems very spunky to me.

[name]Blythe[/name] [name]Pandora[/name] [name]Kate[/name]/[name]Blythe[/name] [name]Arabella[/name] [name]Kate[/name] ~ [name]Blythe[/name] means free spirit, happy, carefree, I love the meaning! [name]Pandora[/name] despite having a bad reputation it means ‘all gifted’, I also really love the sound of [name]Pandora[/name] it sounds very elegant to me. [name]Kate[/name] is a name I’ve always liked esp. for a middle name. I was almost named [name]Katherine[/name] ‘[name]Kate[/name]’ so it has that meaning also. [name]Arabella[/name] is girly and frilly which I like with spunky and short [name]Blythe[/name], I also think it sounds very pretty.

[name]Seraphina[/name] [name]Camille[/name] [name]Briar[/name] ~ [name]Seraphina[/name] come from [name]Seraphim[/name], the highest ranked six-winged angel in Christianity. I’m not overly religious but it’s a nice thought in general. [name]Seraphina[/name] is long and girly, which I love. [name]Camille[/name] is so soft and elegant to me, I really love the sound of it. [name]Briar[/name] is a bit more harsh but I think it sounds good with super feminine [name]Seraphina[/name] & [name]Camille[/name]. [name]Briar[/name] is also a nature name which I said before I like a lot!

[name]Gwyneth[/name] [name]Mirabel[/name] [name]Fleur[/name] ~ I know a little [name]Gwendolyn[/name] with the nickname [name]Gwen[/name]/Gwenie which I like but I love [name]Gwyneth[/name] a bit more, it sounds more elegant to me and less dark which [name]Gwendolyn[/name] can sound like to some people. [name]Gwyneth[/name] also means blessed & happy which is nice. [name]Mirabel[/name] is one of the more rare ‘bel’ names, I like that. It means wonderful also! [name]Fleur[/name] is the French word for flower, I love it!

[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Veda[/name] [name]Lily[/name] ~ [name]Eloise[/name] will always remind me of the movie ‘[name]Eloise[/name] at the Plaza’, I love the association. It makes me think of a quirky, fun, & mischievous little girl. [name]Veda[/name] means knowledge in Sanskrit which I think is really cool. [name]Lily[/name] is a old favorite nature name but too popular to use as a first name now.

[name]Lorelei[/name] [name]Carys[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] ~ [name]Lorelei[/name] is very pretty sounding name to me, it’s also [name]German[/name] which I like since my fathers side of the family is 100% [name]German[/name]. [name]Carys[/name] means love in Welsh, I think it’s a wonderful meaning. I also really love the sound of [name]Carys[/name]. [name]Ivy[/name] is quirky and nature themed which I like.

[name]Juliet[/name] [name]Kerensa[/name] [name]Honor[/name] ~ [name]Juliet[/name] is a very romantic & feminine name to me, I like it a lot. It’s been on my list for almost two years. [name]Kerensa[/name] means love in Cornish, it also feels very romantic to me. [name]Honor[/name] is a bit more harsh so I think it balances out the two overly romantic/feminine names. It’s also a less common virtue name, which I like a lot.

[name]Leona[/name] [name]Seren[/name] [name]May[/name] ~ I fell in love with [name]Leona[/name] after I met the most adorable little girl with the name, it mean ‘lioness’ which I like. [name]Seren[/name] is prn. sair-en, it’s the Welsh word for star. [name]Seren[/name] was also the goddess of the hot springs. [name]May[/name] is a month name, tying into my nature theme. In general I just like the sound of [name]May[/name] too.

[name]Maeve[/name] [name]Liliana[/name] [name]Scarlet[/name] ~ I’ve already talked about [name]Maeve[/name] but [name]Liliana[/name] is a longer; more feminine version of [name]Lily[/name] which I like a lot. [name]Scarlet[/name] is a color name and one of the names that has been on my list the longest, I think it’s so pretty!

Whew! That was a lot, sorry if that was a bit much.

We’ve got similar tastes in isolated names.

[name]Anya[/name], [name]Cassandra[/name], [name]Alessandra[/name], [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Jade[/name], [name]Antonia[/name], [name]Claire[/name], [name]Delilah[/name], [name]Ariadne[/name], [name]Mara[/name].

[name]Alessandra[/name] [name]Chloe[/name] - My number one girl’s name atm. I adore [name]Alessandra[/name], it’s exotic, princess like but not frilly, classy, successful sounding, and just gorgeous all around. It’s also uncommon form of [name]Alexandra[/name], which is a huge plus because I love the [name]Alex[/name]- names and variants. The meaning is wonderful “Defender of Men” and I’d like to imagine my daughter(s) as people who’d defend the honor of others, and stand up for what’s right for her instead of letting wrongful things slide, and dismissing them because “it’s not her problem”. The nicknames are wonderful as well, Ale/[name]Ali[/name], [name]Alessa[/name]/Lessa, [name]Andie[/name], [name]Sandra[/name] if she likes. [name]Chloe[/name] is a fresh, uplifting kind of name to me. It gives me the image of a girl who is very motivated, and fond of life and all it brings. Someone who’ll just be a joy to be around.
[name]Alessandra[/name] [name]Chloe[/name] just sounds great together as a combo imo.

Other of my favourite combos: [name]Caterina[/name] [name]Antoinette[/name], and [name]Emma[/name] [name]Gwendolen[/name] (as twins for [name]Alessandra[/name] [name]Chloe[/name]), [name]Katerina[/name] [name]London[/name], [name]Vittoria[/name] [name]Isabel[/name]/[name]Victoria[/name] [name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Elena[/name] [name]Katherine[/name], [name]Serena[/name] [name]Odette[/name]/[name]Eloise[/name]/[name]Vivienne[/name].
