Favorite Languages?

You you have a favorite language or do you like several languages??

If you do, does it relate to the names you like??

[name]Just[/name] wondering

I love the way Japanese is written down and I love Japanese names. I don’t really know what other languages I like. I do French at school-I really annoyed the teacher by asking if these 2 people were a boy or a girl. She said I should be able to tell from the names but I told her that names don’t always specify gender and that some people call their daughters [name]James[/name] etc. I don’t think she likes me anymore. I used to like the sound of Italian but dislike Italian names. loving the thread!!!

I love Japanese too!!

We have to learn French at school, and our teacher it one of those people who seem to think that they are in drama all the time, using rather ā€˜fluttery’ voices. (She is a drama teacher as well)

My friend knows Italian fluently an I’m so jealous!!

I love Chinese, Japanese, and Italian. I actually know Chinese (not fluent, but proficient) However, it doesn’t relate to my naming style… I do love Chinese names though because I think it’s so so cool how they all have a meaning. Like [name]Ming[/name] Yue means bright moon. However, I don’t plan on giving my children Chinese names since they will only be 1/4 Chinese.

I would never do Japanese since I don’t want to impose a culture on my child that they aren’t, and Italian would be if it just happens to be Italian, like [name]Isabella[/name], otherwise I’m not going to go out of my way to give my kid an Italian name…

^ are you sure? You might meet a nice Chinese guy.

Anyway, I’m American and studied Spanish for many years and a year of French. Basically, it’s enough to hep me understand the pronunciation behind the names and that’s it. However, I also speak Mandarin Chinese (Im currently living in Shanghai).

I like Chinese names because there are no set names. They are invented for each child uniquely, using pre-existing characters. My son’s name is the characters for ā€˜home, family’ 家 and ā€˜to soar’. ēæ”. It’s pronounced Fu JAH shyang. 付家ēæ” (Fu is the surname). I think it’s really awesome that my son has both a meaningful English and Chinese name.

Well I’m engaged and he is 100% white, so yeah I’m sure. My mom is Chinese, but she didn’t give me and my sister Chinese names, we have American names so it would just be weird to give my child a Chinese name. My mom also didn’t share her culture, so there is no real reason to pass it on.

French by far…I guess it sorta influences the names I like, but not REALLY. I like a lot of very different names.

I like French and English (obviously) and Gaelic. I only speak English and high school French, though. I think my heritage influences the names I like. I’m part French and part Irish, so I like names such as [name]Rodolphe[/name] and [name]Roisin[/name]. If I happened to be part, say, [name]Indian[/name] and part Russian, I would probably like [name]Indian[/name] and Russian names. I’m a stick-to-your-roots kind of girl

I’m actually not that keen on English but I have to talk it (obviously) else no one would understand me

I can speak Welsh and English fluently, and I’ve learnt a lot of Spanish (I can read and understand a lot, but find it difficult to speak it fluently)

When I do settle down and have children, I would love for them to have a Welsh name (Either first or middle name) Most of my favourite boys names are Welsh, but I have a soft spot for [name]Jude[/name], so that would have to fit in somewhere. And for girls, I like Welsh names, but there’s a lot of English names I love too. So it would depend on what I like when I do have children.

But I love the sound of French and Spanish names, and a few Italian. But I feel it would look silly naming a child something that’s too French or too Spanish where I live, but I do love the names!

My favorite language is Sign Language, but that might only be because it’s the only other language I’m fluent in besides English (I’m American).
I love the way name signs are given though. They take a physical or personality trait of the person and (most often) combine it with their first initial.

My name sign ([name]Tressa[/name]) is the sign for hair (wavy) combined with a T, because not only do I have very long wavy hair, but a ā€˜tress’ is a lock of hair.

My favourite languages are French, [name]German[/name] and Persian.

Basque, for sure!
I used to be in love with Catalan/ Valencian but after moving to the Basque Country last [name]September[/name], Basque is for sure my favourite language. It has definitely impacted my list. I think Basque names are really interesting, and I’m thankful I got to kind of experience them firsthand through working at a high school.
I still have some Valencian names on my list, a couple Spanish ones (the whole ā€œinterest in Spainā€ sparked my moving to the Valencian Community and then the Basque Country), and a couple French ones, too (I’ve been bilingual in French and English for as long as I can remember)
I don’t particularly care for French or Spanish, but I’m comfortable with the languages and therefore the names.
I loooove listening to Basque all day, though!

I can speak norwegian, swedish, english, french, italian and german and I think they’re all beautiful. I wish I could speak russian and hebrew, they sound so amazing. My favourite names are mostly english, greek and welsh though.

I’m a big fan of Italian, and I have a fair number of Italian names on my list, my number one girls name is Italian.
I also like Russian, and I have a Russian name or two on my list as well.

WOW!!

I also wish I could speak Russian and Hebrew, that would be cool!

I agree, French by far! I took French for two years in high school, I absolutely love it. It’s such a beautiful language, and I’m so mad I let it go. (I never sold back the college French book that I almost took courses in, though, so I’m trying to re-teach myself! ha!)

I learned far more Spanish than French, though, and I do like the language… I just don’t love the names! haha. I guess I really do love [name]Amaya[/name], [name]Josefina[/name], [name]Elena[/name], [name]Agustin[/name]/[name]Agosto[/name]/etc. but as I have no Hispanic blood at all it would seem a bit weird to use it. I do have an itty bit of French in me, though, so I think I could get away with that more.

I love a lot of French names, too–[name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Arianne[/name], [name]Odette[/name], [name]Liliane[/name], [name]Aurelie[/name], [name]Aurore[/name], [name]Clementine[/name] (not necessarily French, but it is usable in French), [name]Anne[/name]-[name]Sophie[/name], [name]Fleur[/name], etc. I don’t love as many boys’ names, but the popular boys’ names in [name]France[/name] don’t really seem to be all that French ([name]Leo[/name], [name]Thomas[/name], [name]Lucas[/name], [name]Noah[/name], [name]Nathan[/name], [name]Raphael[/name], etc.). I do quite like [name]Auguste[/name] (almost as much as I love [name]August[/name]!), [name]Caspar[/name], [name]Pierrot[/name] (I think this is adorable! I much prefer this to the Italian [name]Piero[/name], too), [name]Benoit[/name], etc., too.

My best friend was French, she passed away tragically last [name]December[/name], so I love the idea of using French names to honor her.

I [name]LOVE[/name] Polish names, but I’m not sure I really love the Polish language, haha. I don’t really know much about it. I wrote a short story about WWII Poland last year, so I learned a few words to incorporate into the story, and that was fun. I love languages, though, so whatever language I’m interested in at the moment is probably my favorite.

I don’t know that much about [name]German[/name], but I have a lot of [name]German[/name] history and I think it’s a fascinating language. I like a few of their names, too, like Hannelotte, [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Johanna[/name], etc.

Irish, French, and Italian for me. I love the Welsh language too.

I speak English fluently and Welsh proficiently (welsh speakers are few and far between in the capitol).
I fully intend to give all my children Welsh names, either first or middle.
I really like Latin names and Gaelic too. There’s a few French and Italian names I like.
