Favorite Names Getting Too Popular?):

I have loved the name [name_f]Isla[/name_f] for years now, I know some people don’t get the name, but I have intended forever that this IS the name I will choose for my future daughter. But now I feel everyone wants to name their daughter [name_f]Isla[/name_f]/: and if it gets too popular, I will not use it, which really sucks because sweet [name_f]Isla[/name_f] definitely seems to be on the rise):

[name_f]Do[/name_f] any of you berries have any names that you just adored but are now ruling out because they are getting to popular? Where as years ago they were not even kind of?

I usually don’t care if a name is to popular. If it’s sentimental and meaningful to me, I’m gonna use it, but the only example I have is [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. It was my favorite name for a long time until I came across [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. I instantly loved it, but wanted to add a little something to it. That’s how [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] became my new favorite <3

If it helps, I’ve never met a single Isla. It’s a beautiful name

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] may always be the one that got away for me. I know it’s been popular awhile now, so I’ve had time to let it go, but I still love it and wish it was more obscure. Now I’m nervous that [name_f]Maya[/name_f] may be on its way there too.

It is immensely popular where I live, every time I go shopping I hear people calling after little [name_f]Isla[/name_f]'s and I’ve been in hospital for a the past two weeks in the maternity ward and already four [name_f]Isla[/name_f]'s have been born (two the women who were sharing rooms with me). The reason it’s popular is because it’s beautiful!

Hubby and I both love the name [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] but it’s very popular, same goes with the [name_f]Maya[/name_f] and [name_f]Mia[/name_f].

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is the most popular name on my list. It’s been on a decline since 2008, but not by much. It’s not very high on my list though, so it’s kind of okay. I didn’t realise [name_f]Isla[/name_f] was so popular until I just checked. I don’t know anyone called [name_f]Isla[/name_f], but I don’t know any young children.

[name_f]Savannah[/name_f] would be that for me. I used to love it, now I know a bunch of girls with this name.
Another is [name_m]Kingston[/name_m] - for a boy though.

What country do you live in if you don’t mind me asking?

I hated growing up with a popular name so popularity will be a big factor when choosing my kids’ names. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] are the only two I think I would use despite popularity. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] has so much meaning to me and I love [name_f]Sadie[/name_f].

I don’t often go for popularity charts when I rule out a name, but I did rule [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] out while I was in a daycare placement, as my class alone had 2 little [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]'s, and the building alone had 3/4 others (plus some on the waiting list!). I have a 5 under 25 rule for most names - if I know 5 under 25, I likely won’t use it.

[name_u]Story[/name_u] of my life  I fell in love with [name_f]Ava[/name_f] about 15 years ago. Then [name_u]Reese[/name_u] Witherspoon used it, and it shot up. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is following suit it seems, and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] I’m guessing will head up there soon. :frowning:

(As for boys, I’ve loved [name_m]Henry[/name_m] forever, and we know what happened there! I just read a post here about how [name_u]Everett[/name_u] is becoming trendy and it made me want to cry.)

Yup, I feel for you. We had to refer to our province’s name list from the previous year to ensure we chose a name not in the Top 50. Unfortunately, it’s hitting the Top 50 now :frowning: So you never know, even if you choose something that isn’t super hot, it may get hot. So choose what you’ll love to say every day many times, for many years.

Funny. I’ve never met an [name_f]Isla[/name_f] or [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].

I’ve met a little girl called [name_f]Isla[/name_f], I think she’s around 4 now. She is a sweetheart and has a sister called [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] (was going to be an [name_f]Erin[/name_f], though). I love the name and it was a top favourite of mine but I’ve kind of got ‘sick’ of seeing it online everywhere! I live in the UK and it’s a favourite here as it has that English feel to it if you know what I mean, same with [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]… A very ‘British’ feel!

For myself, none of my favourite names have skyrocketed in popularity. They’ve either been popular before and just dropped (such as [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f], I love this name and it’s not popular in UK and I don’t think it ever was… the USA however…) or always been popular (such as [name_f]Lily[/name_f]). Popularity doesn’t bother me though, if I love a name I’m going to use it regardless. I think people look too far into the popularity of a name and if their child will share their name with their classmates, there’s a likelihood they won’t even if their name is [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. I’ve only knew 2 [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]'s, one is 17 and the other is 15. NBD.

I felt the same way about the name [name_f]Luna[/name_f]. I’ve loved it for a decade now and planned to use it for my future daughter. I even told my husband about it when we started dating at age 17! But when I got pregnant, I realized how popular it had become. It’s shot up the SSA lists with rapid speed and is generally…kind of everywhere I look (thanks a lot penelope cruz & uma thurman!). The first few months of pregnancy I was dead set against using it, but I have since realized how much I would regret it.
It’s growing in popularity because it’s a lovely name, I love to say and hear it, and it has a lot of personal meaning for me so I am sticking by it for babygirl.

[name_f]Isla[/name_f] is beautiful! I absolutely love that name and if you really love it, and have kept in mind for a long time, I would absolutely use it. I think regret can only really take hold when you latch onto something really trendy, sort of impulsively at the last minute (if even then). If you’ve imbued a name with sentiment, you’ll always love it.

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f]

[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]. [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] it, always have. Such a shame that it’s so popular or I would use it in a heartbeat.

I have never met an [name_f]Isla[/name_f] in my life and its a pretty name. But I love [name_f]Analeigh[/name_f] and that just isn’t popular. Its barely recognized on Nameberry! I wouldn’t care if my favorite was popular though, its kind of like a compliment to the name. Its just that beautiful! I let go of my once love [name_u]Allison[/name_u] though, and let more unique and feminine sounding names replace it.

I have only met one [name_f]Isla[/name_f] who is around 5yo, for me living in Australia it’s [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. All lovely names, just know far too many children named this now.

[name_f]My[/name_f] third cousin who was born a few months ago is [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and my friend has a sister aged around 25 called [name_f]Isla[/name_f], so I know it is popular here (UK). However it is a beautiful name, so if you love it, use it! Or maybe you could find a similar name that you also love that’s less popular? x

[name_f]Isla[/name_f] is very popular here in the U.K (in the top 10) but might not be where you are? I understand popularity putting you off a name though, I regret my dds name [name_f]Cora[/name_f] a little as didn’t realise how popular it was and is continuing to get.
