Favorite Names Vetoed by DH

In general it seems that men are less inclined to take risks when it comes to naming. [name]Do[/name] you all think that’s true, or is that just the case with us? Some favorites that my husband absolutely hates:

[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Alma[/name]
[name]Francesca[/name]
[name]Willa[/name]
[name]Paloma[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Colette[/name]

[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Emmett[/name]
[name]Amos[/name]
[name]Hugh[/name]
[name]Thaddeus[/name]
[name]Winston[/name]

i wish that was the case with us! My husband honestly wanted to name our baby Buffalo! And everything else he really liked for a long time was utterly ridiculous, like [name]Jamison[/name] [name]Danger[/name]. All the rest of his favorites come from either video games or Pixar movies, e.g. [name]Cloud[/name], [name]Link[/name], [name]Zelda[/name], Peach, [name]Dash[/name], [name]Sullivan[/name], [name]Walter[/name] ([name]Wall[/name]-E)… some of those i would like if he didn’t insist on linking them so heavily with the characters.

i absolutely [name]LOVE[/name] some of the names your husband has vetoed! [name]Beatrix[/name] is one of my very favorites! It’s been vetoed by mine, too… maybe men don’t like that name? I also love [name]Felicity[/name] and [name]Francesca[/name].

I think you’re right. This applies to my husband anyway! I’m pregnant for the first time right now and we’ve been talking about names a ton. We both like classics but he tends to love the gorgeous ones that are safe and popular, while I’m a bit more adventurous and wanting to find old beauties to revive.
That being said, I absolutely love all your choices. I hope he warms up to some of them!! Good luck

Mine is like [name]Lyndsay[/name]'s, the odder, the happier he is. He prefers historical & literary stuff though, some musical, we’re huge readers here. Some of the things he’s come up with in the last six to eight months: [name]Zuleika[/name], [name]Amadeus[/name], [name]Xerxes[/name], [name]Remus[/name], [name]Albion[/name], [name]Eulalie[/name] & [name]Araminta[/name]. I have to admit, I’m really getting used to his style and adapting. I’m braver naming now than I was with the boys. I’m retro, he’s off the wall. Between the two of us, we’ve definitely learned to compromise and it seems to be working.

[name]Lola[/name], I love [name]Araminta[/name]! It’s a family name (a great-aunt, who went by [name]Mintie[/name]). Your hubby is definitely adventurous…guess it just depends on the person. [name]Lyndsay[/name], my husband used to play D&D so I guess I should just be grateful that he doesn’t want to name our child after an elf or something

My husband thinks the names [name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Sylvia[/name] sound like old lady names. He can’t imagine that they’re stylish. He likes the name [name]Stephen[/name] for a boy. It’s a wonderful name, but not being used now. He also loves [name]Thomas[/name] and [name]Anna[/name] which are names that I love, too. I think it’s important for both parents to love their child’s name.
