[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries!
I was wondering what your favorite saint names were. All names welcome. [name_m]Both[/name_m] genders would be great!
Thanks and have a great day!
I’m more of a fan of angel names than saints (I’m not Catholic), but upon some brief research here’s my list (I tried to include names that I hadn’t heard before or didn’t have other connotations for me, as many are very familiar and not distinctly saintly):
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] - Aleydis - [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] - [name_f]Anatolia[/name_f] - [name_f]Apollonia[/name_f] - [name_f]Aquilina[/name_f] - [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] - [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] - Bathildis - [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] - [name_f]Brigid[/name_f] - [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] (well known, but one of the coolest ones) - [name_f]Clotilde[/name_f] - [name_f]Colette[/name_f] - [name_f]Delphina[/name_f] - [name_f]Endellion[/name_f] - Everild - [name_f]Flavia[/name_f] - [name_f]Florentina[/name_f] - [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] - [name_f]Hildegarde[/name_f] - [name_f]Honorata[/name_f] - [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] - [name_f]Isidora[/name_f] - [name_f]Joan[/name_f] (of [name_m]Arc[/name_m]) - [name_f]Lelia[/name_f] - [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] - [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] - [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f] - [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] - [name_f]Petronilla[/name_f] - [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] - [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] - [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] - Severa - [name_f]Thais[/name_f] - [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] (BAMF!) - [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] - [name_f]Valeria[/name_f] - [name_f]Yvette[/name_f] - [name_f]Zita[/name_f]

I’m an atheist Jew, but most of my academic work is in late Medieval and early Renaissance Europe, so I’ve run across a lot of awesome saint’s names. [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] is definitely my all-time favorite combo. [name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_f]Maris[/name_f], one of the names of the Virgin [name_f]Mary[/name_f], is staggeringly gorgeous.
This is going to be a long list. Brace yourself.

[name_f]Francesca[/name_f]

[name_f]Leocadia[/name_f]

Apologies for the length of this list. I adore old saint’s names.
I’m not a [name_m]Christian[/name_m], but I like the sound of:
Girls
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_u]Clare[/name_u]
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Isidora[/name_f]
[name_f]Tuilelaith[/name_f]/[name_f]Talulla[/name_f]
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f]
Boys
[name_u]Aidan[/name_u]
[name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u]/Albeus
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_m]Finnian[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m]
[name_m]Isidore[/name_m]
[name_m]Dominic[/name_m]
[name_u]Francis[/name_u]
Haha, that reminds me; my grandmother’s name is [name_f]Mary[/name_f], and when she was little, she says the boys used to “tease” her by calling her [name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_f]Maris[/name_f] (she went to Catholic School). She seems to have forgotten that half of the other girls names were [name_f]Mary[/name_f], and no boys called them [name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_f]Maris[/name_f]. I swear she was the prettiest girl in that school : )
Back to the subject, my favorite Saints (and Blessed’s) names as follows:
[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f]
Athanasius
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m]/[name_m]Luke[/name_m]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]/[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Therese[/name_f]
[name_m]Melchior[/name_m]
[name_m]Damian[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_m]Dominic[/name_m]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
[name_f]Perpetua[/name_f]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] for a girl. [name_m]Wenceslaus[/name_m] for a boy. (I’m Czech-American. Good [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Wenceslaus[/name_m]! However, I would never name a child [name_m]Wenceslaus[/name_m]. Maybe a middle name?)
I love [name_f]Veronica[/name_f], but I don’t know if it would go well with my 10-letter surname that is now [name_m]German[/name_m] after marriage.
I’m more of a fan of angel names than saints (I’m not Catholic), but upon some brief research here’s my list (I tried to include names that I hadn’t heard before or didn’t have other connotations for me, as many are very familiar and not distinctly saintly)
Thanks! [name_u]Angel[/name_u] names are welcome too, I should have put that in the description. [name_f]Love[/name_f]: [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] (didn’t know she was a saint), [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Colette[/name_f] (love this), [name_f]Hermione[/name_f](didn’t know she was a saint either), [name_f]Marcella[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Valentina[/name_f], [name_m]Felix[/name_m], & [name_m]Frederick[/name_m].
Jude Thaddeus is definitely my all-time favorite combo. Stella Maris, one of the names of the Virgin Mary, is staggeringly gorgeous.
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. [name_f]Stella[/name_f] is my grandmother’s name, and I never considered it before. It’s a nice connection. [name_f]Love[/name_f] a lot of your names, I hadn’t heard of a lot of them. [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] is one of my GPs. [name_f]Amadore[/name_f] was awesome and I like [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] (though I think I would use it for a character rather than a real person)
@stripedsocks: I love a lot of the names you mentioned. [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] needs a come back and [name_f]Isidora[/name_f] is one of my favorites.
@chrisco: [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] is my absolute favorite name (its the name of a very close family friend of mine). I didn’t know [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] was a saint, so I will look into that, because its growing on me.
@loislane1222: I love [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] too! I think its different without being too crazy and ages well.
Thanks for all your suggestions!
Ooh! If angel names are welcome, I’ve got a good healthy list (most all of these are boys’ names, but some could work well for girls)
[name_m]Michael[/name_m], [name_m]Raphael[/name_m], [name_m]Uriel[/name_m], [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], Samael, [name_m]Cassiel[/name_m], [name_u]Ariel[/name_u], Metatron, Ambriel, Castiel, [name_m]Adriel[/name_m], Zophiel, [name_m]Seraphim[/name_m]/[name_f]Seraphima[/name_f]/Seraphiel, Ephra, Remiel, Erubey, Sariel
Oh, I would have included [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] if I had known it was a saint’s name, I love this name just for the sound. Beautiful.
Angels? I can do angels!
I like for boys: Raziel, [name_m]Michael[/name_m], [name_m]Raphael[/name_m], [name_m]Cassiel[/name_m], [name_m]Gavriel[/name_m]/[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], Tzadkiel/Zadkiel, [name_u]Ariel[/name_u], Ezriel/[name_m]Azriel[/name_m] and [name_f]Carmiel[/name_f]/Karmiel.
For girls I like [name_f]Raziela[/name_f], [name_f]Raphaela[/name_f], [name_f]Ariella[/name_f], Ezriela, and [name_f]Carmiela[/name_f]. I don’t like [name_f]Gabriella[/name_f] for a girl because I dislike “[name_u]Gabby[/name_u]” very much. And I do like [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] but the spelling mess that has happened to it in recent years makes me sad.
[name_f]Raziela[/name_f] has maybe my favourite meaning.
I’m probably forgetting some, but:
[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]
[name_f]Asteria[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]

[name_f]Theophania[/name_f] (feminine form of Theophanes)
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] (my confirmation name)
[name_f]Zenobia[/name_f] (feminine form of [name_m]Zenobius[/name_m])
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]

[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]
[name_m]Raphael[/name_m]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_u]Valentine[/name_u]
[name_m]William[/name_m]
@stripedsocks: [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Raziela[/name_f] and [name_f]Raphaela[/name_f] and [name_f]Ariella[/name_f]. I will put those on my list.
@mega_muffin: [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] and [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]. Too bad I’ve gotten negative reactions to [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] from family because they’re so nice. Maybe next time I remind them that they are saint names. Maybe I can win them over =)

So these are based as much on the saint as the name itself. Some are clunky, but have beautiful stories.
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f] ([name_f]Empress[/name_f], wife of [name_m]Justinian[/name_m])
[name_f]Junia[/name_f]
[name_f]Zenaida[/name_f] (one of the first female doctors, known for her thoughtfulness and compassion)
[name_f]Thekla[/name_f]
Philothea
[name_f]Xenia[/name_f]
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassiane[/name_f] (also [name_f]Kassiani[/name_f] or [name_f]Cassia[/name_f])
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] the Dragonslayer
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Verena[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
And [name_f]Brigid[/name_f], of course!

[name_m]Dominic[/name_m] and [name_u]Francis[/name_u].
@charlieandperry - some modern scholars believe that Austell was a woman named Hoystill, a daughter of [name_m]Brychan[/name_m] of [name_m]Wales[/name_m]. Who knows for sure but I think it would be a nice name for both genders.
Oh? In most sources I’ve come across, people are fairly certain he was male and came over from [name_f]Brittany[/name_f]. The church at St Austell certainly seems to think so. Anyway, can’t say I like it as a name. It’s too strongly tied to the town for me and St Awful’s not exactly an attractive place.
