Favorites #3: Allegra

Trying to gain fresh perspective on my old favorites. You can talk about whatever aspect of the name you are most interested, meaning, personal opinions, associations, your favorite combos, siblings, whatever!

So, what do you think of [name]Allegra[/name]?

-------------------------------- history for those interested------------------------------------

Means “cheerful, lively” in Italian, and while not common now, it was first used in the 1500s in [name]Italy[/name]. It was laterborne by a daughter of [name]Lord[/name] [name]Byron[/name]. It is related to the musical term “allegro” and can be found in this (adorable!) poem, by [name]Longfellow[/name]: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Poems - Poems by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

[name]Allegra[/name] has never been in the US top 1,000.

[name]Allegra[/name] is excellent. Sure there’s the allergy medication, but I don’t think it’s that big of a deal.

I’ve liked [name]Allegra[/name] since I was a per-teen. There used to be a cartoon my sister watched whose main character had the name [name]Allegra[/name]. So I always think of that before the allergy meds. lol I’m not very fond of names with the letter “G” in them, which is probably the main problem I have with the name. It’s a beautiful name, but theres something harsh sounding about it that keeps me from using it for my own child.

I want to love it but my brain goes to the allergy meds.

[name]Man[/name], those allergy meds really made an impact. For some reason the medicine just doesn’t really bother me, though it seems for a lot of people that’s a very strong association.

I used to love it and it was at the top of my list for years, but now I take [name]Allegra[/name] everyday for allergies. So for me it’d be like naming my kid Tylenol

Yeah, the musical connection is one reason while I fell for [name]Allegra[/name]. [name]Music[/name] has been really big in my life, so I like the little nod to that.

Darn allergy medicine. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s a longtime love of mine. But the medication kills it for me. Donnatella Versace has a daughter by this name who is tragically anorexic.

I think it’s a beautiful name, I used to love it. Unfortunately i’ve met some spoiled brats named [name]Allegra[/name] over the years… but still a lovely name.

Sorry but I’m not a fan. I don’t care for the sound that much in the first place and then the allergy medicine just seals the deal.

I like it a lot mainly because my family’s original form of my surname was [name]Allegra[/name]. I’d probably only use it as a middle name just because I think it would be odd to call my future daughter a name so close to my surname on a daily basis.
