Trying to gain fresh perspective on my old favorites. You can talk about whatever aspect of the name you are most interested, meaning, personal opinions, associations, your favorite combos, siblings, whatever!
So, what do you think of Beatrix?
-------------------------------- history for those interested------------------------------------
Probably from Viatrix, a feminine form of the Late Latin name Viator which meant “voyager, traveller”. It was a common name amongst early Christians, and the spelling was altered by association with Latin beatus “blessed”. Viatrix or Beatrix was a 4th-century saint who was strangled to death during the persecutions of Diocletian. In England it became rare after the Middle Ages, but it was revived in the 19th century. A famous bearer was the British author and illustrator Beatrix Potter (1866-1943), the creator of Peter Rabbit.
Beatrix hasn’t been in the US top 1,000 since the 1890’s
I really like [name]Beatrix[/name], it’s actually starting to edge past [name]Beatrice[/name] as my top name. I think it’s spunky, and I find it sad that it’s so underused. The history of the name is really intersting, I had no idea about the Viatrix origin, or the saint.
Reminds me of [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Potter[/name], who wrote the [name]Peter[/name] Rabbit tales. So definitely a good association to have!
I much prefer [name]Beatrix[/name] to [name]Beatrice[/name], just feels a little more modern and spunky, whereas [name]Beatrice[/name] is more classic and olde worlde, even though they’ve both been around for a very long time.
