What names do you absolutely love, but cannot use? Maybe someone close to you already used it, or your SO doesn’t like it.

[name_f]Ava[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
There are quite a few but the ones I mourn the most over are:
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]: one of my rather…interesting…in-laws has this name and it is not a good association at all. I’ve loved this name since I was a really small child but now I can’t bring myself to ever use it.
[name_f]Lena[/name_f]: too close to another in-law’s name. I’ve loved this name almost as long as I’ve loved [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. It checks off so many boxes of the type of name I like.
There are a few:
[name_u]Alex[/name_u]: My brother’s name is [name_m]Axel[/name_m] and I think it’s not a good idea
[name_m]Wolf[/name_m] (girl): It is pretty cool and strong but I’m afraid that she will be bullied at school for “having a boys’ name”
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]: It’s overused and also my sister’s middle name
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]: I don’t really like the nickname [name_u]Nick[/name_u]
[name_m]Maximus[/name_m]: I really like names that contain the letter x ( [name_m]Xavier[/name_m], [name_u]Paxton[/name_u], [name_u]Alex[/name_u]) but is already used by a friend
There are a lot so I’ll just pick my top four.
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]: Both are too popular, which is a shame because [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] would be my favorite girls’ name if it wasn’t.
[name_m]Philip[/name_m]: My brother’s childhood best friend is called [name_m]Philip[/name_m] and I can only think of him. Plus the nickname [name_m]Pip[/name_m], which I love, sounds really ridiculous in my native language.
[name_f]Estella[/name_f]: I adore the full name and the nickname [name_f]Estie[/name_f] but I’m too worried she’d end up going by [name_f]Stella[/name_f]/[name_f]Ella[/name_f]/[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] all of which I hate.
I love [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], [name_u]Reagan[/name_u], [name_u]Teagan[/name_u], but my sister’s name is [name_f]Megan[/name_f] and we don’t care to name a child after her.
Names that I used to love but are now too popular for me to use like [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m], [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f].
In addition to that one of my [name_m]SIL[/name_m] have stated that she love the name [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], and I know that even if I has a girl first, she would feel like I stole it from her. Luckily it has lost its luster to me over time anyway so I’m not too hurt over it. I’ve found unique ways of still including my favorite name, such as [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] for a middle (means hazelnut) and and [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] as a middle for a boy.
I used to always [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] any name that ended in -er (so popular, I know). [name_m]Even[/name_m] dating back to being a teenager writing up my first name lists, I always loved [name_u]Parker[/name_u], [name_m]Connor[/name_m], etc. Now I still love their sound, names like [name_f]Kimber[/name_f], [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_m]Asher[/name_m], [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]. But my married last name is a very common one that also ends in -er. They do not sound good together, so I’ve had to let go of these completely! Sad!
I have always considered using my maiden name as a middle for a girl, or using a variant of my maiden name as a middle. It sounds very similar to [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u], so I had always thought that would be a great option for a middle for a girl, as a way to honor my family. But my husband has a sister nn [name_f]Cassie[/name_f], and it’s just too close for us.
What a fun thread
I’d love to see names with an eyya ending! It seems unique to me.
I was going to name my daughter [name_u]Riley[/name_u], but then it exploded in popularity. My [name_m]SIL[/name_m] was considering it for her daughter & my cousin named her son R!land. (We were all preggers at the same time) So we had to pick something else & I absolutely love our choice!
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m]! We named our daughter scout and I just don’t think she could have a brother called [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]!
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]! I love this name but my husband hated it!
I love love love the name ‘[name_f]Lana[/name_f]’ … until someone pointed out to me what it spells backwards… still love the name, but don’t think I’d risk naming a child that (in case of teasing… children can be cruel!)
Names that are too popular/have a family connection
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]- rising in popularity and my cousin just named her son [name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]- this was my dream name growing up. I always wanted to have a daughter named [name_u]Charley[/name_u]. Then [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] went and named his baby that and it blew up
[name_u]Noah[/name_u]- It’s my pastor’s name and super popular right now
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]- a family member we don’t talk to anymore has this name
Names I love but cultural appropriation is bad:
Ballari, Piya, Divya- [name_f]Indian[/name_f] girls names
[name_m]Bodhi[/name_m], Hilol, Devesh- [name_f]Indian[/name_f] boys names
[name_u]Eman[/name_u]/[name_f]Iman[/name_f], Amna, [name_f]Noor[/name_f]- Arabic girls names
[name_m]Aziz[/name_m], Mouna, [name_m]Hasan[/name_m]- Arabic boys names
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m]: it’s a little too morally fraught now that there are debates as to whether the character is a racist (and in Go [name_m]Set[/name_m] A Watchman he very much is from what I’ve heard).
[name_m]Bastian[/name_m], [name_f]Edie[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Margaux[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]: My partner dislikes them.
[name_f]Juno[/name_f]: My partner dislikes it and [name_u]June[/name_u] is my daughter’s middle name.
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]: I adore them but they’re too popular for me.
[name_u]Frankie[/name_u]: I know too many.
