Favourite Human Sounding Brand/Company Names

Sometimes companies or brands choose names that sound vaguely human or are in fact human but obscure enough so as to not directly associate them with people. Since we’ve got berries from all over the world I thought this would be an interesting one…

For instance even though I lived in [name_f]England[/name_f] for almost two years, I only recently figured out that [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] is a large [name_u]London[/name_u] based insurance corporation. Then there’s also [name_f]Arla[/name_f], which is a pretty significant dairy and dairy alternatives company in this part of the world. Then here there’s [name_m]Liander[/name_m], which runs and maintains the electricity network where I currently live. And, moreover, recently I thought to myself that Cloetta would be a cute spunky name but I had to really rack my brains to figure out what made me think of it, until I got a flashback from last year when I lived in [name_u]Sweden[/name_u] and that brand’s name was all over supermarkets because it’s especially known for its [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] candy there.

So have these kinds of associations ever ‘ruined’ a name for you?

Chloé, [name_f]Zara[/name_f], [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f], [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], [name_f]Chanel[/name_f] and [name_u]Michael[/name_u].

[name_m]How[/name_m] could I forget Chloé and [name_f]Zara[/name_f]! Both are names I would actually still consider because I feel like they’re still ‘human’ enough.

[name_u]Tyson[/name_u]!! I love the name so much but everyone connects it to the chicken company

[name_f]Allegra[/name_f]. However I don’t really care - I feel like every name if you look hard enough is either a place , a brand or both.

Nivea is a lotion brand but means snow. I quite dig it.

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Clover[/name_f] are both butter/spread brands over here, but I still adore them both!

[name_f]Vespa[/name_f] scooters come up every time anyone mentions [name_u]Vesper[/name_u], another love of mine. There’s also the similar Vespre sanitary products brand, which puts me off much more.

[name_m]Sol[/name_m] is a huge favourite of mine, especially for a girl, but there is a popular Mexican beer with the same name.

And [name_f]Vita[/name_f] is utterly fabulous but sounds like a well-known brand name in combination with our surname, sadly.

[name_u]Evian[/name_u]! I think it’s such a cool name and a great alternative to [name_u]Evan[/name_u], but I automatically think of the fancy mineral water brand whenever I hear it. I still think it’s pretty usable though!

Both of my top names have brand associations. They don’t ruin the names for me, but I do wish they’d quietly disappear. Of course there’s [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] jewellery, although that could be made into a cute positive thing by getting little charms or something like that. There’s also a ‘[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]’ food chain, which is particularly annoying because there are two restaurants almost next to each other near where I live.

Some others:
[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u]- I noticed a bin collection truck with this on the side
[name_f]Sephora[/name_f]- Make up (I never where any either, so I feel it would be somewhat ironic)
[name_f]Clio[/name_f]- [name_m]Renault[/name_m] [name_f]Clio[/name_f] is a popular car model
[name_f]Margaux[/name_f]- Wine (I love the look of this spelling though)

I quite like the idea of [name_f]Catrice[/name_f] (the name of a makeup brand) as a persons’ name.

There’s also [name_f]Ala[/name_f]ïa, the name of an haute couture brand, though this could also be described as a surname-turned-first name as the brand was named after its founder, [name_m]Azzedine[/name_m] [name_f]Ala[/name_f]ïa.

[name_f]Zara[/name_f] is my favourite!
