I’m not 100% sure if the two categories are the same, or separate, so, I’ll separate them for this. I love Irish and Gaelic names for girls, and they seem to be a massive GP for me (so I’d likely only use most of them as a middle, unless by some odd, wonderful twist of fate, I’m whisked off to [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] to live there forever and ever…), but I don’t seem to have that many definite favourites.
As of right now, I like;
[name_f]Aoife[/name_f] (Ee-fa)
[name_f]Roisin[/name_f] ([name_f]Ro[/name_f]-sheen)
[name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] (Sear-sha/Sir-sha - I’ve heard both)
[name_f]Bridie[/name_f]
[name_u]Aoibheann[/name_u]
[name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]
[name_f]Keira[/name_f]/[name_f]Ciara[/name_f] (I prefer the [name_f]Keira[/name_f] spelling)
[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f]/[name_f]Orla[/name_f] (I prefer the [name_f]Orla[/name_f] spelling)
[name_u]Fallon[/name_u] (a big GP of mine)
[name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]
[name_u]Kelly[/name_u]
When it comes to names from Irish and Gaelic origins, what are your favourites?
I love many of the ones you listed
[name_f]Aoife[/name_f]
[name_f]Roisin[/name_f]
[name_f]Saoirse[/name_f]
[name_u]Aoibheann[/name_u] (sometimes Irish names just look like a string of random letters lol, I love it!)
[name_f]Ciara[/name_f] (I am not a fan of [name_f]Keira[/name_f] though)
[name_f]Orla[/name_f]
Some other of my favourites:
[name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u]
[name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f]
[name_f]Eabha[/name_f] (I love the name [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and this is my way of being youneek, at least it’s a legit name!)
[name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f]
[name_f]Iseult[/name_f]/[name_f]Yseult[/name_f]
[name_f]Ailis[/name_f]
[name_f]Aisling[/name_f]
[name_f]Alana[/name_f]
[name_f]Eibhlin[/name_f]
[name_f]Eimear[/name_f]
[name_f]Meabh[/name_f] (I dislike [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] though)
[name_f]Muireann[/name_f]
[name_f]Una[/name_f]
Roise (I can’t find a reliable source with this listed as a name so it might not be legit, but I really hope it is)
[name_f]Mair[/name_f]éad/[name_f]Mairead[/name_f] is one of my favourites, and I love [name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f], [name_f]Eibhlin[/name_f], and [name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u]. I have a bit of a guilty love for [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f], but only when it’s mispronounced. I wish Or-layth were a name.
Well I suppose in the US you could likely get away with [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] as Or-layth I’ve never seen it used here in [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u], so I doubt many people would know any different, haha.
