Favourite names that sound the same!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all,

I’m due next year and being a giant name nerd I am already planning names!!

If it is a girl, we are thinking [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Stella[/name_f].

However, this will be our first baby and we are planning on more.

My second favourite name is [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and we would use this for future daughters.

I think the two syllable and ‘vee’ and ‘ee’ sounds make them quite similar but would love others opinions too!

So my question is, are [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] too close? And do I name my first daughter with my favourite name even though it may eliminate future names?

Thanks!

I would use your favorite name now. To be honest, when we chose our daughter’s name, I had a second favorite I assumed we would use if we had another girl. Now, less than a year and a half later, I already have a new favorite girl’s name!

So I’m not saying you will decide against [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] in the future, but I would always go with your favorite name now. I think [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] are okay, by the way. I think I like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] with [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] better, but it isn’t a big deal.

Thankyou! I have loved [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] for a very long time so really want to use that. Its tricky because I don’t think [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] rhyme, but share similar sounds.

For some reason I am not a fan of [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]! So maybe I should reconsider [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] due to the link to [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f].

Congrats on your baby and I’m glad you found more names!!

Congratulations! Unfortunately, I do think [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] are too close for siblings. I think you should always use your favorite name first, in case you may be one and done.

I love [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]! I do think [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] could turn into a tongue twister when saying them together. But use your favorite now… your taste will probably change a bit when the next one comes!

I suggest that you choose [name_f]Violet[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Ivy[/name_f].

[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] are absolutely lovely sister names. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] has a lot of similarities to [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]: They both contain a ‘V’, a long ‘I’ sound, and they are botanical names that don’t end in ‘A’. Not too mention they are both classic vintage names that are also trendy right now.

You would probably have to choose a middle other than [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Stella[/name_f] doesn’t flow, although [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] is pretty. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], etc…

My other suggestion is [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] are pretty together as first names, too. Or you could use it to replace [name_f]Violet[/name_f] in the combo: [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f].

I think they are awfully close. I prefer [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f].
