I have recently fallen for occupational names, what are you favourites and any more obscure suggestions?
Current list:
[name]Archer[/name]
[name]Carter[/name]
[name]Chandler[/name]
[name]Gardner[/name] - I think this one is unusable.
[name]Hunter[/name] - Becoming popular in my state (South Australia)
[name]Mason[/name] - Too popular.
[name]Porter[/name] - 50/50 on this.
I love occupational names. There are lots of lists online if you do a search.
My favourite "uncommon ones…
[name]Thatcher[/name] - love, love, love.
[name]Parker[/name] - also love, and not popular in Australia yet.
[name]Baird[/name]
[name]Mercer[/name]
[name]Chaucer[/name]
[name]Tolliver[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name]
Cotter
[name]Dexter[/name]
[name]Miller[/name]
I don’t have any names to add but though I would say that I know what you mean about [name]Hunter[/name] being really popular in South Australia! I know 5 Hunters under the age of 1! 3 of them born within 48 hours of each other!
My favourites are [name]Archer[/name], [name]Hunter[/name], [name]Sailor[/name], [name]Ryder[/name], and [name]Walker[/name] - because they convey such positive, strong images: warriors, wanderers, searchers. Also the historical and mythological associations.
Other names I like (based more on sound and other reasons):
[name]Archer[/name]
Woodley ( I meant a little boy named Woodley today, I was told that it means Woods man)
[name]Thatcher[/name] ( although [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Thatcher[/name] puts a damper on that one )
[name]Parker[/name]
[name]Sailor[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name]
I’ve never heard [name]Baird[/name] as a first name before but I love that. [name]One[/name] the other hand, I can’t stand [name]Hunter[/name], it’s so over used. Also, [name]Cooper[/name], I don’t know about else where but around here, that’s a cheese. I know it means barrel maker, but all I can think about is cheese.
