Favourite pop culture names

Everyone is freaking out because they don’t want their names to be associated with the latest fad, or newest hurricane. But I say, if you worry about those reprecussions long enough you’ll run out of names.

So why don’t be start talking about the names we [name]DO[/name] love because of pop culture, the movies, musicals, books, authors and general category that started us loving our names!

I’ll start of course!

I got [name]Evangeline[/name] a few years ago before it started it’s steady upward climb and I heard it in [name]Nanny[/name] [name]McPhee[/name]. [name]Evangeline[/name] had a true [name]Cinderella[/name] story in the movie and wanted to learn to read, these were both big pluses to me!

[name]Jasper[/name] I found after my Twi-session took ahold, though I love the biblical referances and nature quality.

More names I love and why-

[name]Marlowe[/name] ([name]Christopher[/name] [name]Marlowe[/name])
Eponine ([name]Les[/name] Mes)
[name]Marius[/name] ([name]Les[/name] Mes)
[name]Thisbe[/name] (The [name]Bard[/name])
[name]Ophelia[/name] (’’)
[name]Aurora[/name] (the princess)
[name]Elizabeth[/name] ([name]Elizabeth[/name], 1)

Enjoy the thread!

I love a lot of names that are from my favorite singers, books, authors, and so on. I understand perfectly! (:

[name]Claudia[/name], [name]Ursula[/name], [name]Vittorio[/name], [name]Louis[/name], Lestat, [name]Madeleine[/name], [name]Armand[/name], Memnoch, [name]Felix[/name], [name]Celeste[/name], [name]Estelle[/name], [name]Gretchen[/name], [name]Zenobia[/name], [name]Marius[/name], [name]Bianca[/name] - The Vampire Chronicles.
[name]Edgar[/name], [name]Allan[/name], [name]Poe[/name] - Well, that’s sort of obvious. [name]Edgar[/name] [name]Allan[/name] [name]Poe[/name] was one of my favorite authors. [name]Poe[/name] would be a nickname or a name for an animal, though.
[name]Arthur[/name] - [name]Bram[/name] Stoker’s Dracula; Arthurian [name]Legend[/name]; Sir [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Conan[/name] [name]Doyle[/name]. In [name]Bram[/name] Stoker’s Dracula, he was nicknamed “[name]Art[/name]”.
[name]Emilie[/name], [name]Autumn[/name] - [name]Emilie[/name] [name]Autumn[/name] is a singer whom is known for her ‘Victorian’ style and sound.
[name]Sherlock[/name], Mycroft, [name]Irene[/name], [name]Mary[/name] - [name]Sherlock[/name] [name]Holmes[/name].
[name]Jonathan[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Wilhelmina[/name] “[name]Mina[/name]”, [name]Abraham[/name] - [name]Bram[/name] Stoker’s Dracula. [name]Abraham[/name] is also [name]Abraham[/name] “[name]Bram[/name]” Stoker’s name.
[name]Oscar[/name] - [name]Oscar[/name] Wilde.
[name]Dorian[/name], [name]Gladys[/name], [name]Sibyl[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Basil[/name] - The Picture of [name]Dorian[/name] [name]Gray[/name].
[name]Silas[/name] - Perfect Creature and The Da [name]Vinci[/name] Code.
[name]Ludwig[/name] - [name]Ludwig[/name] [name]Von[/name] Beethoven.
[name]Casper[/name] - [name]Casper[/name] the Friendly Ghost. xD
[name]Lolita[/name] - I haven’t read [name]Vladimir[/name] Navbok’s book, but I think it has bad connections overall.
[name]Peter[/name], [name]Caspian[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Susan[/name], Aslan, [name]Jadis[/name] - [name]Narnia[/name] (movies for me).

And many, many others. xD

[name]Lois[/name], [name]Lana[/name], [name]Lex[/name] - No explanation needed here. [name]Lois[/name] is one of those great names nobody’s using anymore.
[name]Ayla[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Zoe[/name], [name]Laurel[/name], [name]Jenni[/name], [name]Drake[/name] - Legion of Super-Heroes, another DC comic most people have never heard of.
[name]Honor[/name], [name]Alistair[/name], [name]Hamish[/name], [name]Mercedes[/name], [name]Iris[/name], [name]Lois[/name] (again!), [name]Prescott[/name] - [name]Honor[/name] [name]Harrington[/name]. Yes, the series is a guilty pleasure, and the eponymous heroine is one of the worst [name]Mary[/name]-Sues in history. But [name]David[/name] [name]Weber[/name] uses some good names.

You basically just used my favorites list. I guess great minds think alike? I would probably add a list for comics though as I am a huge Batman fan ([name]Bruce[/name], [name]Grayson[/name], [name]Talia[/name], Harely [name]Quinn[/name], [name]Ivy[/name] (Poison [name]Ivy[/name]), [name]Selina[/name] [name]Kyle[/name], [name]Alfred[/name] [name]Thaddeus[/name] [name]Crane[/name] Pennyworth, Arkham, [name]Lucius[/name] [name]Fox[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Jack[/name], [name]Basil[/name], etc) I don’t feel like a nut anymore since I am not the only one who loves these names for those same reasons. People make fun of me and say that my children will hate me, but these are just classic names to me. Anyway, spiderweb, it is just nice to see someone with similar tastes.

I like:

[name]Draven[/name] - The [name]Crow[/name]… I was entirely set on naming someone [name]Draven[/name] from about 11 on through adolescence. We probably won’t use it, but I still have a soft spot for it.
[name]Arwen[/name] - Gorgeous. I know it’s a legitimate name, but I count it as a pop culture name.
[name]Lolita[/name] - Such a pretty name! I almost don’t care about the connection, but I know it’d be a problem for her.
[name]Dilbert[/name] - So cute!
[name]Lenore[/name] - On our list, mostly in the middle.

I’m having some trouble thinking of them. I’ll come back if I can remember.

I first heard [name]Evangeline[/name] (pronounced -line not -lean) in the Lost Immigrants song of the same name. I want to be off-put by its growing popularity, but I’m totally not. I absolutely love it. I also love [name]Eowyn[/name], [name]Elanor[/name], Tolkien and [name]Rohan[/name] because I will always be a massive lotr geek.

I’ve got quite a crush on the Huger Games names right now, my favourites being [name]Katniss[/name], Haymitch, [name]Rue[/name], [name]Clove[/name], [name]Primrose[/name] and Finnick. I couldn’t understand the fuss over [name]Katniss[/name] untill I read the books myself :stuck_out_tongue:

I also love [name]Dresden[/name] from the [name]Harry[/name] [name]Dresden[/name] books by [name]Jim[/name] [name]Butcher[/name], which seems a weird choice I guess.

Riddick (Pitch [name]Black[/name])
[name]Beckett[/name] (Castle)
Faraday, Azhure, Zarred ([name]Sara[/name] [name]Douglass[/name] Wayfarer Redemption trilogy)

[name]Kira[/name] (The Chronicles of Riddick)

[name]Faith[/name], [name]Charisma[/name] ([name]Buffy[/name] the Vampire Slayer)
[name]Doyle[/name] ([name]Angel[/name])
[name]Kitana[/name] (Mortal Kombat)

[name]Ridley[/name] (Metroid series) - although I think this would make a better name for a dog or reptilian pet
[name]Carmilla[/name] (the novella by the same name)
[name]Terra[/name], Relm (Final [name]Fantasy[/name] [name]VI[/name])
[name]Garnet[/name], [name]Freya[/name] (Final [name]Fantasy[/name] IX)
[name]Cassandra[/name], Sophitia, [name]Amy[/name] (Soul Calibur series)
[name]Lolita[/name] (from the Nabakov novel of the same name) - I’ve only seen the movie, but I still love the sound of the name, connotations aside.
[name]Lucy[/name], Aslan - Chronicles of [name]Narnia[/name]
[name]Maria[/name], Renarde, Richter (Castlevania: Rondo of Blood)
[name]Elise[/name], [name]Alan[/name] ([name]Sean[/name] [name]Russell[/name]'s The Swans’ War trilogy)
[name]Lilith[/name], [name]Morrigan[/name], Jedah (Darkstalkers series)
[name]Diana[/name], [name]Alana[/name], Hippolyta (Wonder Woman)
[name]Sibyl[/name] (Silent [name]Hill[/name])

the list goes on, but that’s all I can think of for now.
