I know this might not be very popular on here having looked around but I thought I’d ask anyway.
We’re a young(ish) couple from the UK expecting our first child at the end of the year. We’re looking for unisex names for either gender that would work with the surname T00ley. For a boy we’re considering something ending in son like [name_m]Harrison[/name_m], [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] etc as my husband loves the nickname [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] but that’s not essential as I reason we can call a son [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] regardless of his name.
We like surname type names as long as they’re not really pretentious or chavvy, and we want properly unisex rather than boy names on girls or vice versa.
I’m not a huge fan of unisex names because I feel that most tend to lean either more girl or more boy. There are only a few I think are truly unisex, but this will probably vary on your location.
Some ideas for surname-type unisex names:
[name_u]Parker[/name_u]
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u]
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u]
[name_m]Jackson[/name_m] is a VERY popular boys name in the States, so I’d avoid that as most people tend to associate with a boy’s name rather than unisex (although it may be different in the UK)
Yeah we wouldn’t a ‘son’ ending name for a girl, I find that a bit weird. [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] is a boy’s name to me, I don’t see it as unisex at all, and [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] isn’t an option because we have friends with the surname O’[name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] that we see quite a lot. I like the suggestion of [name_u]Parker[/name_u] and [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] though, I can see those on a boy or a girl.
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] - Not bad, have to see what the husband thinks, on the list.
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u] - I quite like this, listing it too.
[name_u]Everly[/name_u] - [name_m]Will[/name_m] probably be too close to a cousin [name_f]Evie[/name_f].
[name_u]Gray[/name_u] - I’ve never heard this as a name but I’m not keen.
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u] - Nice though will probably be too close to a cousin [name_f]Ella[/name_f].
[name_u]Drew[/name_u] - My brother is [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], so while he’d probably love a niece or nephew named after him, I’m not going to inflate his ego!
[name_u]Mason[/name_u] - I just hear this everywhere, looking for something a bit less popular.
[name_m]Grayson[/name_m] - I don’t like that there’s two equally valid spellings, I want something easy to spell.
[name_m]Preston[/name_m] - A place not all that far from where I used to live, wouldn’t use it as a name though.
