Faye, Mabel, Frankie...?

We just found out baby is a little girl!
So now the name list gets more serious!

Our current top three are [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u].
[name_f]Faye[/name_f] being my favourite and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] bring my husbands.

I like old fashioned names that are known but not common. I hold back from [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] because I don’t like [name_u]Fran[/name_u] or [name_f]Franny[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think they are likely nicknames?

My husband main preference is that it has two syllables (why [name_f]Faye[/name_f] isn’t at the top)

Other names we like are:
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Frida[/name_f]
[name_f]Marnie[/name_f]

Middle name most likely [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f] if [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] really doesn’t fit.

Looking for more ideas! Ideally I would like to have two we both love to take to the hospital

As [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is a nickname, I don’t think she’ll get [name_u]Fran[/name_u] or [name_f]Franny[/name_f].

If you do choose Frankie Margaret, the only nickname I could see her having is Frankie Mae (which is adorable).

[name_f]Marnie[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f] !!!

Agree that [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is unlikely to be shortened. I like all three of your top choices…

Other ideas:

[name_f]Clio[/name_f]
[name_f]Della[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f]
[name_f]Maxine[/name_f]

[name_u]Frankie[/name_u] seems like kind of an outlier to the style of the other names you like. If two syllables, is a consideration, would you like [name_f]Freya[/name_f] (I know it has a different vibe). Otherwise, I think [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f] is your best bet if your husband doesn’t like [name_f]Faye[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Frida[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. Other ideas:

[name_f]Pauline[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Irene[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] or [name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
Sally Margaret
Maisie Florence

[name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is already a nickname so I don’t see the need to call her anything else.
I love [name_f]Frida[/name_f]! [name_f]Faye[/name_f] is also very pretty

[name_f]Frida[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_u]Frankie[/name_u] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]

All these are very nice in my opinion:)

I like [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_f]Frida[/name_f], and [name_f]Marnie[/name_f]. I don’t think [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] will get shortened since it’s a nickname.

[name_f]Effie[/name_f]
[name_f]Goldie[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Ida[/name_f]
[name_f]Maxine[/name_f] (seconding)
[name_f]Mona[/name_f]
[name_f]Twyla[/name_f]

I like [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] the least out of your names - to me, it’s a trendy name on its way out. If you’re going to use it, I’d suggest having it as a nn for [name_f]Frances[/name_f] or [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] the best - I guess [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] is ideal if your husband wants two syllables (mine also got funny about the starkness of one whereas I think one is so confident and beautiful). The suggestion of [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f] is lovely. [name_f]Florence[/name_f] is nice as a middle as the nicknames aren’t nearly as pretty as the name itself.

Agreeing that because [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is already a nickname name, it is unlikely to be shortened. Perhaps go with full name [name_f]Francine[/name_f] with nicknames [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]/[name_f]Faye[/name_f]

Other suggestions:

[name_f]Theadora[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]

[name_f]Faye[/name_f] is so elegant where as [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is definitely the girl next door. What about [name_f]Flora[/name_f] as somewhat of a compromise? Alternatively, what about [name_f]Florence[/name_f] possibly with [name_f]Flossie[/name_f] as a nn?

Congratulations! I love your list, you really can’t go wrong!

[name_u]Fran[/name_u] and [name_f]Franny[/name_f] will likely never come up if you use [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]. I think that’s my favorite of your top 3!

I like [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] [name_f]Florence[/name_f] and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f].

If you like [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Faye[/name_f], how about Fabel?

Other suggestions:
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] (nn Felix)
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f] (nn [name_u]Frankie[/name_u])
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] (nn Freddie)
[name_f]Francine[/name_f] (nn [name_u]Frankie[/name_u])
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Faye[/name_f])
[name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f]

Out of your list I love [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f]!

[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f] is so pretty! It’s becoming very trendy in [name_u]Sydney[/name_u]. I also love [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]. Both names are on our list but we know babies with these names.

[name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is my favourite of your top three, it’s so feisty and spunky! But I have to say, when I look at your full list, [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] stands out as the most in step with your broader style.

My absolute favourite from your long list is [name_f]Frida[/name_f] — gorgeous, just as spunky as [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], but feels more serious, soft and vintage, like the rest of your list. I also really like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] for you.

[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Blythe[/name_f]

Loving the feedback!
Nice to be assured that [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] won’t be shortened. I like that [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is spunky and sweet but not very girly. I’m really not a fan of other [name_u]Fran[/name_u]… names.
I really like suggestions of [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], I’ll add them to our maybe list to mull over.

My second cousin named her son Fabel, it was very controversial with the older generation haha I think it has a lovely sound

I enjoy [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] but are out because of association (I’m a stickler for not wanting a name of someone I know)

Keep the suggestions coming

[name_f]Vera[/name_f], I just hear [name_m]Jack[/name_m] from Coronation street calling her from across the pub haha otherwise I would be all over that name

Haha, fair enough!

[name_f]Ida[/name_f]? Similar to [name_f]Frida[/name_f], as brief as [name_f]Faye[/name_f] but with two syllables to satisfy your husband? [name_f]Ida[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f] would be lovely!

I love your list!! [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is my least favorite. I think it’s a totally adorable and spunky nickname but I don’t think it ages well. There are definitely adults that coupled pull it off well, but there are also a lot that couldn’t…That said your concern of her getting called [name_u]Fran[/name_u] or [name_u]Frannie[/name_u] I doubt would happen.
[name_f]Frida[/name_f] is one of my very favorite names. Probably my favorite from your whole list.
From your top 3 my favorite is [name_f]Faye[/name_f]. Have you considered [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f]? 2 syllables but can be shortened to [name_f]Fay[/name_f]?
Good luck.

I’ve considered [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f]… it me it has bit of fantasy/ nerdy vibe which is my favorite type of book but was unsure about it for a child.
It does nicely solve our problem. I’ll add that to the “thinking about it” list.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it could be spelt differently?

Thanks

Alternative spelling to [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f]:

[name_f]Faydra[/name_f]
[name_f]Phedra[/name_f]
[name_f]Phaedre[/name_f]
[name_f]Phaidra[/name_f]
