Feedback and suggestions?

Hello everyone! I have been lurking here for the past few months, and since we just found out we are having a boy I thought I would post our list to try to get some ideas. We have some names we like, but nothing is jumping out yet as “the” name.

Names we like:

[name]Aaron[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Bennett[/name] (husband likes, I don’t)
[name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Jesse[/name]
[name]Max[/name] (this would be a nickname – not sure what the given name would be)
[name]Nathan[/name] (another husband choice)

Names we like but can’t use (close family members have them):

[name]Adam[/name]
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]David[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]

Our favorite girls’ names (our girls’ list was longer and way more fun, for some reason):

[name]Chava[/name]
[name]Nadia[/name]
[name]Sasha[/name]
[name]Sonia[/name]

My guilty pleasure is nature names, which we can never use because my husband HATES them:

[name]River[/name]
[name]Sage[/name]
[name]Briar[/name]
[name]Autumn[/name]

We were looking at mostly Hebrew and Russian girls’ names, but we haven’t found any boys’ names in those categories that really do it for us. Suggestions would be great!

If it helps, we have different last names and the baby will have my husband’s last name. My last name (which is a different ethnicity) will be the middle name. There are no real concerns with the initials, but we would like something that is easy to pronounce because the last name is kind of a mouthful.

Thanks so much in advance!

I adore [name]Isaac[/name], [name]Nathan[/name], [name]Bennett[/name] and [name]Joseph[/name] the most from the boy’s list, but I’m not keen on any of the girls names. Please don’t name your daughter [name]Chava[/name] because here in the UK ‘Chav’ is used to stereotype a group of people and isn’t a well thought of term and is often considered derogatory. It might not mean anything to you where you are but if your daughter was ever to travel, it could be cause problems.

[name]Nadia[/name] is probably my favourite!

[name]Asa[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Eden[/name]
[name]Solomon[/name]
[name]Samson[/name]
[name]Seth[/name]
[name]Simeon[/name]
[name]Elias[/name]
[name]Amos[/name]
[name]Avram[/name]
[name]Axel[/name]
[name]Adlai[/name]

Thank you for the suggestions! I particularly like [name]Avram[/name].

And thanks for the heads-up on potential problems with [name]Chava[/name]. It’s a Hebrew name and I think it’s beautiful, and I had no idea it was an insult (I’m in the U.S.). [name]How[/name] is “chav” pronounced, by the way? [name]Chava[/name] has a guttural sound at the beginning, like chutzpah.

I adore [name]Joseph[/name]. It’s so classic but I never see it used. I would love to meet a little [name]Joseph[/name]. And what history the name has? As for a girl I adore [name]Sasha[/name]. I love the meaning " defending man"

Great choices! You can’t go wrong with any of them!

Wow, your boy names are very traditional and your girl names are a little out there.

A lot of the boy names that you listed are popular, so I’m assuming that’s not a problem.

  • [name]Anton[/name] (Now some sites say this is [name]German[/name] and some say French…but both [name]Anton[/name] Yelchin and [name]Anton[/name] Chekov were born in [name]Russia[/name])
  • [name]Alexei[/name] (Russian form of [name]Alexander[/name])
  • [name]Nikolai[/name]
  • [name]Misha[/name]
  • [name]Ivan[/name] (maybe the most “American looking one” out of the bunch)
  • [name]Viktor[/name]

And as for non Russian names

  • [name]Benedict[/name] (instead of [name]Bennett[/name])
  • [name]Daniel[/name]
  • [name]Thomas[/name]
  • [name]Henry[/name]
  • [name]Harrison[/name]
  • [name]Alexander[/name]
  • [name]Luke[/name]
  • [name]Jack[/name]
  • [name]Jonathan[/name]
  • [name]Gideon[/name]
  • [name]Zachary[/name]
  • [name]Christopher[/name]
  • [name]Theodore[/name]
  • [name]Elliott[/name]
  • [name]Matthew[/name]
