My husband and I are having trouble picking from our short list, and I’m due in 2 days, so we are getting down to the wire! Our last name is 2 syllables, starts with N and ends in -er. Any thoughts/ideas are much appreciated.
[name]Flynn[/name]- I love this name i usually hate short names
[name]Theodore[/name]- i love love this name since Kindergarten i had a best friend named [name]Theodore/name
[name]Beckett[/name]-i think bucket
[name]Graham[/name]- i don’t like this name
[name]Zane[/name]-iffy on these name
[name]Ezra[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] strong and classic
[name]Brady[/name]-nope
[name]Owen[/name]-little over done but still love it !!!
I really love your list! I think [name]Zane[/name], [name]Ezra[/name], and [name]Brady[/name] are my favorites (although I slightly prefer [name]Brody[/name]), although I really like [name]Owen[/name], [name]Flynn[/name], and [name]Beckett[/name], too. I like [name]Theodore[/name] and [name]Graham[/name], too, just not as much as the others.
I think “[name]Zane[/name] [name]Parker[/name]” sounds better than something like “[name]Ezra[/name] [name]Parker[/name]” or “[name]Brady[/name] [name]Parker[/name]”, but I like [name]Ezra[/name] and [name]Brady[/name] just as well, I honestly don’t think you could go wrong with any of your choices, though.
From you list I adore [name]Graham[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name]. I also really like [name]Beckett[/name] and [name]Owen[/name]. I think my final choice would depend on the mn. Good luck with your decision!
[name]Flynn[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Flynn[/name]- might be a bit ‘n’ heavy with your last name starting with N too.
[name]Theodore[/name] Cute- like [name]Theo[/name] as a nn too- bit ‘old man’ though, which appeals to many
[name]Beckett[/name]- more modern sounding- [name]Beckett[/name] is quite abrupt sounding- which is OK for a boy, if your last name includes a hard ‘e’ not so good. (eg [name]Beckett[/name] [name]Nester[/name])
[name]Graham[/name] NMS (too many 50+ uncles called that)
[name]Zane[/name]- I like it, but it is a bit ‘[name]One[/name] Direction’ so might date. Again it has a repeated N sound.
[name]Ezra[/name]- NMS
[name]Brady[/name]- cute, maybe a bit nick namey- could there be a longer version? [name]Braden[/name]?
[name]Owen[/name]- N following an N again, but I do like it.
Despite the ‘n’ heavy factor I am loving [name]Flynn[/name], [name]Beckett[/name] and [name]Owen[/name]. [name]Theodore[/name] is a close contender.
I’m with this. [name]Love[/name] the rhythm. [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Graham[/name] N-----er is also wonderful. [name]Love[/name] the nn [name]Teddy[/name] which you almost never hear now that [name]Theo[/name] is so trendy. I’d eliminate [name]Flynn[/name] because of the way it will run into your last name when said without the middle, as it usually will be. Same with [name]Owen[/name].
Thank you all for your help! Getting closer to narrowing it down… My husband pointed out that [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Graham[/name] could turn into [name]Teddy[/name] [name]Graham[/name] so I think that one is out for now
[name]Flynn[/name]: I don’t think it’s a good idea to pick a name that ends with the same letter the last name starts with. So this one’s out.
[name]Theodore[/name]: [name]Love[/name]! I adore [name]Theo[/name] as a nn.
[name]Beckett[/name]: Trendy. Lacking substance.
[name]Graham[/name]: A classic I enjoy. Hearty, yet lovable sound.
[name]Zane[/name]: [name]Even[/name] though it may sound trendy and new, it’s actually not as it’s been around for almost a century it looks like. I like it but I think it may work best in a middle spot.
[name]Ezra[/name]: A biblical classic that isn’t overly biblical sounding. I like it.
[name]Brady[/name]: Another one that sounds like a newer invention, but has actually been around for a long time. I like it, though it leans more toward cute than manly to me. Ironic, given its meaning (“large-chested,” lol).
[name]Owen[/name]: I’m kinda over owen. A good name, but too popular for my tastes.
[name]One[/name] of my friends just had a [name]Beckett[/name] earlier this year, and they call him [name]Beck[/name]. It’s super cute. My absolute fave is [name]Ezra[/name]. I just love that name.
The standard advice is to avoid having the final sound of the first name be the same as the initial sound of the last name, so with a last name beginning with “N”, [name]Owen[/name], [name]Zane[/name], and [name]Flynn[/name] would break that rule.(Not that it’s written in stone.)
Of the rest, I really like [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Graham[/name], and [name]Ezra[/name]. (My suspicion is that [name]Beckett[/name] will become somewhat dated).
I love [name]Flynn[/name] with the two syllable last name the best, but I love the suggestion of [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Graham[/name]. It just hit me right now of the cookie reference though. [name]Teddy[/name] Grahams.
So, today is your due date, right? Has your little one made an appearance? If so, please let us know how you’re doing & what name you decided on. We’d love to know & send our congratulations!
Here are my thoughts on your name choices:
[name]Flynn[/name]: neat name, nms, would work well in the middle spot
[name]Theodore[/name]: my favourite on your list! I would use it if it wasn’t so close to our family name.
[name]Beckett[/name]: meaning is “bee cottage” -?!?! I wouldn’t be able to use it.
[name]Graham[/name]: I always think of [name]Graham[/name] crackers… and the guy at work that I don’t really like but it is a nice name.
[name]Zane[/name]: Neat name, nms, it would work well in the middle spot
[name]Ezra[/name]: [name]LOVE[/name]! But, it’s 2 syllables & with a 2 syllable last name, it’s not my favourite
[name]Brady[/name]: sounds very trendy and the meaning is: “broad-chested” ?!?!?
[name]Owen[/name]: I like this name & know a young boy of 8 with this name. It is more popular than your other choices though.
My suggestions: [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Flynn[/name] N___er or [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Zane[/name] N_____er or [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Owen[/name] N________er
[name]Ezra[/name] [name]Flynn[/name], [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Zane[/name] or [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Owen[/name] [name]Flynn[/name], [name]Owen[/name] [name]Zane[/name] or [name]Owen[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]
Many blessings on your upcoming new addition to your family!
