Thank you to everyone who helped the other day! We now have a revised list - you’ll spot some perennial favourites on there - looking for feedback on the names and any suggestions based on this list.

I have trawled NB for these, so feel free to go for what feels like a gut leap rather than from the suggested section of the name page - trust me, I have already been there :joy: I’m looking more for names that feel right to you in a sibset made from these names.

Middle names would likely be a family name such as: [name_f]George[/name_f], [name_f]William[/name_f], [name_f]Arthur[/name_f], Ian/Evan, [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], or [name_m]Dennis[/name_m]. Surname is pronounced like [name_f]Avery[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Basil[/name_f], [name_m]Bram[/name_m], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], and [name_m]Russell[/name_m] vibe the best with sis’s name. The others don’t have her classic appeal IMO.

[name_m]Bram[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_f]William[/name_f], and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_f]Arthur[/name_f] all sound extremely handsome and well balanced to me!

I love [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Naomi[/name_f]! Absolutely perfect.

For her brother, from your list I think [name_m]Colin[/name_m] fits the best, with [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] at #2. [name_m]Silas[/name_m] also fits well style-wise, but soundwise it is very close to [name_f]Alice[/name_f].

I love [name_m]Fergus[/name_m] - great name! But not sure how well it balances [name_f]Alice[/name_f], which is a lot more familiar and classic.

[name_m]Oren[/name_m] has been a favourite of mine for years! It’s such an underused gem, I love its very on-trend but distinct, soft sound :yellow_heart: But with [name_f]Alice[/name_f], I think [name_f]Basil[/name_f] is just amazing! [name_m]Fergus[/name_m] and [name_m]Warren[/name_m] as well, they’re somewhat unexpected choices while still being great with [name_f]Alice[/name_f]!

I’d probably take [name_m]Silas[/name_m] out of the list if you’re committed to [name_f]Alice[/name_f] for a girl, since I think they sound too similar!

[name_m]Bram[/name_m] → literary, cool and distinctive
[name_m]Colin[/name_m] → it’s okay. I find it a bit clunky-but-in-a-middle-aged-man-way, but it’s not bad
[name_f]Dara[/name_f] → earthy and cool
[name_m]Fergus[/name_m] → rugged, strong and bright
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] → cosy but sophisticated
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] → snappy and versatile
[name_m]Oren[/name_m] → woodsy and unexpected - but familiar too
[name_m]Russell[/name_m] → earthy and charming
[name_m]Silas[/name_m] → sleek, sharp and cool

From your list, I think [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is the best match with [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. Though [name_f]William[/name_f] as the first could be even better.

Firstly, I will say that your list is more than adequate as is. We had no mutually agreed names for our son until we started discussing them at 20 weeks. By the time he arrived our list had only grown to 12 names in total.

Your list is a happy assortment of names that aren’t overly matched but work well together. I think it lends itself to unexpected combinations and that makes for fun and enjoyable sibsets. [name_f]Dara[/name_f], [name_m]Fergus[/name_m] and [name_m]Oren[/name_m] strike me as the most out of place on your list, but in a way that is surprising rather than startling.

The rest of the names could be matched with any other name on the list and sound like brothers. [name_m]Silas[/name_m], [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] feel the most current. [name_m]Warren[/name_m] and [name_m]Russell[/name_m] could go in few directions including western and vintage. [name_m]Bram[/name_m] and [name_f]Basil[/name_f] are more niche but also versatile choices. [name_m]Colin[/name_m] is an understated classic.

Taking inspiration from [name_m]Warren[/name_m] and [name_m]Russell[/name_m] on your list, I want to suggest some mid century style names. Some of these have been on my long list and I think all of them would be fun to hear on a young child.

@cms1512 ooh I quite like [name_f]Ellis[/name_f]. [name_m]Walter[/name_m] I go back and forth on - I have a friend with a dog named [name_m]Walter[/name_m] so I think I can’t escape that association! [name_m]Russell[/name_m] [name_f]George[/name_f] is currently one of my favourite pairings. I do also like [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] but we have friends with a 4 year old named [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] and it’s such a distinctive name I wouldn’t want to repeat it (lovely name though).

@TrulyBrilliant Oooh [name_m]Bram[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] really speaks to me. Definitely keeping that pairing in mind!

@Chococat Thank you for the compliment on [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Naomi[/name_f]! I agree [name_m]Silas[/name_m] might be a little too close sound wise. I love a lot of the names on the list but sadly several have been ruled out for various reasons, but definitely some names I love (Isaac, [name_m]Luke[/name_m], [name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_m]Duncan[/name_m], [name_m]Douglas[/name_m], [name_f]Ira[/name_f] - such great names, DH dislikes all of them…). [name_m]Silas[/name_m] is actually a compromise because DH hates the name [name_m]Simon[/name_m] (no idea why) but I love it.

@tallemaja Thank you! [name_m]Silas[/name_m] is definitely getting lower down the list. We also quite liked [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] but there’s no way we could have an [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and an [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] :joy: So many great names! I adore the name [name_m]Ivo[/name_m] but our surname is a sound alike to [name_f]Avery[/name_f] and [name_m]Ivo[/name_m] [name_f]Avery[/name_f] just doesn’t quite work for me. So many of these have been ones I’ve considered and there are still many I really love - sadly, DH is a difficult person to match boy name styles with!

@Greyblue - [name_m]Ah[/name_m] thank you! It’s nice to see how other people see names and what vibes they’re giving out. I really love [name_m]Joel[/name_m] but I think DH won’t go for it. [name_m]Alby[/name_m] is adorable.

@EJK1720 - Thank you, will definitely think more about [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]! [name_f]William[/name_f] is a great name but because it’s a family name there are already several (adult and children) family members with the first name [name_f]William[/name_f] so we would be keeping it in the middle spot - my husband’s family has 2 [name_m]Williams[/name_m], and 2 Nicholases, and 3 Thomases. I am eager to inject some variation in boy names :joy:

@kachenka - Thank you, that’s great to hear re: having an adequate list. Our girl name is pretty set but also the list is so long for names we agree on - for boys it’s like looking for needles in a big hay stack! I really like several of your suggestions so will definitely raise [name_m]Alan[/name_m], [name_m]Malcom[/name_m] and [name_m]Joel[/name_m] with DH as I think they fit his style too.

@somemelodioussonnet Thank you for the suggestions! I really like [name_f]Gus[/name_f] but I think I’d use it as a nickname for [name_m]Fergus[/name_m]. I also really like [name_m]Amos[/name_m] and [name_f]Seth[/name_f]. [name_m]Athen[/name_m] is very cool, I’ve never heard it before (only ever seen Athena).
