Felicity v. Dorothy/Dorothea

Ok, berries, I think we are almost decided. [name_u]Baby[/name_u] girl will be here next month!

First names are narrowed down to [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]/[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]. We do not love any nicknames for [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] so we would most likely use the full name (possibly considering [name_f]Faye[/name_f] as nn). [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]/[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] would have the nickname [name_f]Dottie[/name_f]. Older sister is [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Eliane[/name_f], last name is pronounced Keekly. So here are my questions:

  1. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] or [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] better, considering [name_f]Vera[/name_f] as older sister? Is [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] too long compared to [name_f]Vera[/name_f]? Although they would be called [name_f]Vera[/name_f] & [name_f]Dottie[/name_f].
  2. Preferences for [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]/[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]?
  3. Middle name suggestions? I really like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u], but not sure. We would probably prefer to go wtih a short middle name since the first name will be at least 3 syllables.

Please help us make a final decision! Thanks!

These are all great choices. Vera has a very sophisticated vibe to me and I believe it matches Dorothea the best of the three choices. They both have a romantic, vintage, Victorian feel. If you choose Felicity though there are also the nn options of Flossie and Flick/a. Also I love your mn choices, they’re perfect!

Definitely [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] over [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f], but I much prefer [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]. It’s just so, so much prettier. [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] does go nicely with [name_f]Vera[/name_f] though.

[name_f]Vera[/name_f] & [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] are a better set, but I like [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]/[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] better as name, so it depends on what’s more important to you. [name_f]Faye[/name_f] is a pretty nickname, but I like [name_f]Vera[/name_f] & [name_f]Lacey[/name_f] better (I know a [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Lacey[/name_f], so maybe I’m biased). [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is a little too old-ladyish for me; [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u] is better.

With [name_f]Vera[/name_f] for an older sister, I would rate your choices in this order.

1 [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] - I love these two vintage names together.
2 [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] - has the same charm as [name_f]Vera[/name_f]. If you’re going to call her [name_f]Dottie[/name_f], length isn’t really important.
3 [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] - I love this name but it does seem more contemporary in vibe than [name_f]Vera[/name_f].

I definitely prefer [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]! No contest for me! [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is really pretty!

I want to like [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] (it’s a family name for me) but I really must say I prefer [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] for you. It’s a much better fit for sister [name_f]Vera[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]! [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] are darling together. I still haven’t caught the excitement about [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Dot[/name_f] is cute, and the meaning is nice. I don’t think [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] are bad together, but I definitely like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] better! I don’t like the most common nns for it (Lissy, [name_f]Flick[/name_f], Fliss, Flicka, etc.!), but I do like Liss, [name_u]Izzy[/name_u], Lity/Liddy/Litty, etc. I think [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] would be especially cute. But [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] nn [name_f]Faye[/name_f] is lovely, too! I think you can get away with a lot of semi-unrelated nns with [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is lovely!

Good luck!

Thanks for your comments. I agree that [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is a prettier name, and it goes well with [name_f]Vera[/name_f]. I guess I just need to get over that it’s a long name…I have worries that I will get tired of saying it 50 times a day if need be! I liked [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] as an alternative because it has a nice meaning and [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] is such a cute, easy nn. But since [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] was my original choice, maybe I shouldn’t second guess myself!

I really like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], it sounds nice with middle name [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] is great too though!

I like [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] over [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] by far. [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] & [name_f]Vera[/name_f] are adorable together!

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]! I really detest [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]. I would hate to be [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f].

I prefer [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] by far, but if you don’t choose that, I would go with [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] over [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]. [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] is too fanciful next to [name_f]Vera[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] just rubs me the wrong way for some reason; too many short vowels with hard consonants, and I’ve never been fond of F names for girls.
