Felix

I’m not currently expecting, but I do have a list for future use. My other half is very picky with names, and so far [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is the only boys name he really loves!
You can see other names I like in my signature, most of which he dislikes, haha.

I love it too, but have concerns about “the [name_f]Cat[/name_f]” associations, and when I’ve mentioned it to family and friends I’ve had a negative reaction.

So, what are everyone’s thoughts on this name?

My dad’s best friend / one of my bosses is named [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. His nickname is [name_f]Cat[/name_f].

I generally like the name’s sound and I love it’s meaning.

[name_m]Felix[/name_m] is one of my favourite names for a boy. I love the sound and it has a great meaning (“happy”). I’m aware that it’s associated with a cartoon cat from the silent film era but I really don’t think many children would know of it.

I love [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. It is super cute! I don’t think “cat” when I here it, unless it is suggested. The cartoon is so old, that I don’t really think babies born now and onwards have to worry about it. 30 years ago, I would have said yes, but I don’t think it is an issue nowadays.

We named our son [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and it fits him perfectly. He is a (very) energetic, smart, happy little boy. We do get the “Oh like [name_m]Felix[/name_m] the cat” comments, but generally only from older (50+) age group. I doubt any of his peers will even think of it. Also, it is not really a bad association. As someone mentioned to me on another post, [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] the Tank Engine is hugely popular, but it hasn’t deterred people from using [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] at all (top50). It is somewhat polarizing. Some people love it and some people gave us a sideways look when we tell them, but ultimately it is your choice and once it is attached to a real person everyone should accept it and the child will own it. Finally, it has been climbing in popularity quite a bit in the last few years (up to the 260s in 2014)

I love [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. I don’t think of the cat, and I don’t think it will be an issue for a child born in 2016 or later.

Thanks for all your responses guys! I feel a lot more reassured hearing these comments.
Especially yours Namelisterdad, I think you’re right. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if people are unsure, once it’s his name they’ll love it because they’ll love him!

I would ideally pair it with [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] as a middle, after my dad. So he would be [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m], and I think that goes well.

My only worry now is if we ever had more than one boy, boys names are tough!!

I think [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is a great name. Honestly, people can find associations with just about ANYTHING, so I wouldn’t worry about the cat reference at all.

I really, really love [name_m]Felix[/name_m]! It’s pretty popular here in the UK (top 100), which I think is proof that people can and will eventually move on from the cat thing. I don’t think [name_m]Felix[/name_m] the [name_f]Cat[/name_f] was as big a thing here, but there is a well known cat food brand by the same name and parents are clearly willing and able to overlook that.

I’d use [name_m]Felix[/name_m] myself in a flash, but unfortunately DH’s cousin (who lives in the US) used it for his son born earlier this year. I was disappointed but at the same time glad to see such a handsome name getting some use!

[name_m]Felix[/name_m] is such a cool name. I wouldn’t worry much about the cat thing, most younger folk wouldn’t make the association.

Tell me about it! We are currently at a complete loss for a name for boy #2 due in [name_u]July[/name_u]. Finding something we like and is on the same level as [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is proving to be very difficult. Small word of advice, keep in mind of initials, wouldn’t want them to spell anything unfortunate with [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] in the middle (ie [name_f]FA[/name_f]…) Otherwise sounds great!

[name_m]Ah[/name_m], I didn’t realise it had made it to the top 100  That’s pretty cool. I’m in the UK and I work in a toy shop so hear lots of kids names and have yet to meet a [name_m]Felix[/name_m]!

Namelisterdad, I hope you find the perfect name! It’s hard, and I’m not even having a baby yet, haha. Twin boys run in my family, so I like to be prepared. Good point on the initials, will definitely keep that in mind

That’s funny, my husband and I have opposite opinions on [name_m]Felix[/name_m] as you and yours. I think vintage and spunky, he thinks cat :frowning:
