My maiden name was [name]Harris[/name]. We would love to use it as a middle name for a boy. As our next will last baby and it turns out we are having a girl we want to use is in some way to honour my Dad but we are unsure how to go about it? Any suggestions?
My other daughters are [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Annabelle[/name]
[name]Harriet[/name] is definitely the clearest route and a nice name that definitely fits with [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Annabelle[/name]. Nns [name]Hattie[/name] and [name]Hatsy[/name] are super cute and [name]Hatsy[/name] kind of gets the S back fro [name]Harris[/name].
I also think [name]Harris[/name] is fine as a middle name for a girl since it was your middle name.
[name]Iris[/name] sort of nods at the other sounds, and [name]Harriet[/name] [name]Iris[/name] or [name]Iris[/name] [name]Harriet[/name] has them all. I also think both of those combos are really nice combos.
The connection to [name]Henry[/name] means [name]Henrietta[/name] could technically work as well.
If the goal is to honor your dad more than just use your maiden name, what are your dad’s first and middle names if you’re comfortable sharing? [name]One[/name] of them might lend itself more names if [name]Harriet[/name] or [name]Henrietta[/name] or [name]Iris[/name] don’t do it for you.
[name]Harriet[/name] would amazing with sisters named [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Annabelle[/name]. Maybe you could use the combo [name]Harriet[/name] [name]Maris[/name] and you could give her the nickname of [name]Harris[/name] occasionally too? If you like masculine nicknames that is or it could just be an option if she’s a little bit of a tomboy.
[name]Harriet[/name]/[name]Hattie[/name] or [name]Maris[/name]…you can’t go wrong! Each is lovely and beautifully fit with your two little girls’ names.
I agree with the above, [name]Harriet[/name] is the first name that comes to mind. And it goes very well with your other daughters’ names. But there are a few you could use at a stretch;
[name]Carys[/name] (Rhymes with [name]Harris[/name])
[name]Marissa[/name]
[name]Hollis[/name]
[name]Arissa[/name]
[name]Harris[/name] comes from [name]Harry[/name] which comes from [name]Henry[/name]. So, [name]Henrietta[/name]/[name]Henriette[/name] would be the closest etymologically.
I think [name]Harris[/name] in the middle is great for a girl with a girly first name! Or [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Harris[/name] in the middle if you want something more obviously girly.
[name]Harriet[/name] would be pretty obvious a connection too.
Seconding [name]Clarice[/name] or [name]Harriet[/name]. Or [name]Harris[/name] in the middle. [name]Rose[/name] [name]Harris[/name], [name]Georgina[/name] [name]Harris[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Harris[/name]…
Too bad Harissa isn’t a name. Such a nice word. So it’s curry paste… We have [name]Ginger[/name], [name]Cassia[/name], and some bold people naming their children [name]Pepper[/name]. [name]Ah[/name] well.
[name]Harriet[/name] is perfect, especially with sisters [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Annabelle[/name].
The only other thing that came to mind is the much more tenuous link with the Hebrides - [name]Lewis[/name] & [name]Harris[/name] being the biggest island in the Outer Hebrides. [name]Skye[/name], [name]Iona[/name], [name]Islay[/name] ([name]Isla[/name]), and [name]Rona[/name] are the best options for Hebridean names, if you’re not thrilled with [name]Harriet[/name]. [name]Iona[/name] would be quite lovely with [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Annabelle[/name]- classic, multisyllabic, also starts with a vowel. [name]Iona[/name] [name]Harriet[/name]?
I love the suggestion of [name]Harriet[/name]! I didn’t read through the comments, so I don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but my idea was [name]Hera[/name]. Maybe you could do something like [name]Juliet[/name] [name]Hera[/name] or [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Hera[/name]? I don’t think [name]Hera[/name] really fits as a FN with [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Annabelle[/name], but I think it definitely could work as a MN, especially since it’s honoring!
I do love [name]Harriet[/name]. My hubby doesn’t like it unfortunately. Then he hated the name [name]Annabelle[/name] until he saw her and said I was right, she is an [name]Annabelle[/name]!
Today we talked about [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Harris[/name] as a name. [name]Do[/name] you think it sound okay? I like it but I’m not in love with it. Out last name starts with R and has 2 syllables. Please be honest if you hate it! I wouldn’t want our daughter to be stuck with a terrible name her whole life.
My Dad’s names are very strong and masculine names and not something I would want to use for a girl but would consider for a boy.
[name]Iona[/name] is a beautiful name but my sister named her horse that so I’m not sure I want that connection.
I hadn’t thought about rhyming a name with [name]Harris[/name], will have a talk to my husband about that. I think it’s a cut idea
I think it sounds beautiful in the middle spot, especially paired with such a regal and feminine first name as [name]Genevieve[/name].
If you like the Hebridean connection (i.e. [name]Iona[/name]), you could consider [name]Isla[/name] itself-- that’s more directly related to [name]Harris[/name].
