I never really cared about male names before, till I noticed that my favorite boy names were girl ones, normally associated to the female sex or just very similar to female names.
MY LIST
[name_u]Andrea[/name_u]/s
[name_u]Ara[/name_u]: actually, a masculine name, but with a feminine feel
[name_f]Aria[/name_f]: I believe it’s a boy name in some language idk. In my country, there is no Arias (female or male), so here [name_f]Aria[/name_f] doesn’t have a gender
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u]
[name_f]Azure[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucasta[/name_f]: fun enough, I prefer [name_m]Luka[/name_m] on a girl
[name_f]Lux[/name_f]: I prefer as a nn (but for what?)
[name_f]Manon[/name_f]: pet name for [name_f]Marie[/name_f] or [name_f]Marianne[/name_f]
[name_u]Marian[/name_u]: I can only picture a boy with this name
[name_u]Marion[/name_u]: pretty unisex
[name_u]Nikita[/name_u]: a Russian male name (or nn?)
[name_u]Paris[/name_u]: though, I pronounce [name_u]Paris[/name_u] [name_m]Hilton[/name_m] and [name_u]Paris[/name_u], the Greek [name_u]Hero[/name_u], in different ways
[name_u]Reese[/name_u]: on the rise for girls
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]: my biggest crush right now!!! ”
[name_u]Sinclair[/name_u]: unisex name
So, do you know some girls names that would work on boys?
Or some male name that have a feminine aura?
[name_u]Andrea[/name_u] was a masculine name.
[name_u]Sinclair[/name_u], [name_u]Paris[/name_u], [name_u]Nikita[/name_u], [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] and [name_m]Azur[/name_m] without an E are masculine names.
For me, [name_f]Manon[/name_f] ([name_m]French[/name_m] feminine name), [name_f]Aria[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] (mythology) are not wearable on boys.
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] has an old story and has old roots we should respect. There are [name_m]Artemus[/name_m] or Artemias for a boy.
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] is just too feminine. He would get teased sooo much. Same for [name_f]Aria[/name_f] and [name_f]Manon[/name_f].
I would respect the origin of the names and not change the gender.
I love [name_m]Azur[/name_m] and [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u].
Not [name_f]Rose[/name_f] for a boy! He would be immensly teased! Same with [name_f]Aria[/name_f] and [name_u]Paris[/name_u]. Because of the “man” in [name_f]Manon[/name_f] I think I could handle that one, but [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is definite no-no.
These names sound unisex:
[name_u]Jan[/name_u]
[name_m]Keiran[/name_m]/[name_u]Kyran[/name_u]
[name_u]Aeron[/name_u]/[name_f]Erin[/name_f]
[name_u]Alex[/name_u]/[name_u]Alexis[/name_u]
[name_u]Andy[/name_u]
[name_u]Chris[/name_u]/[name_u]Kris[/name_u]
My name ([name_u]Cheyenne[/name_u]) is Unisex.
@entangler: [name_u]Asa[/name_u], [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] and [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] are “softer” names, the way I like it. My favorites ones are [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] (similar to [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] plus nn [name_u]Isa[/name_u]) and [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] (lil [name_f]Bel[/name_f] or Bels)!!! L.O.V.E.
[name_u]Emory[/name_u]: similar to [name_u]Amory[/name_u], no? But it’s looks like [name_u]Emerson[/name_u], which I’m not a fan…
[name_u]Winter[/name_u]: I love the meaning, the fact that it’s a word name, the spelling; but I can’t bring myself to love this name. For neither gender. ;(
[name_u]Penrose[/name_u]: that’s different! Still thinking about it…
[name_u]Indiana[/name_u]: [name_m]Jones[/name_m]!!! The is one cute, but a prefer as a mn.
@mccharlie: yeah, [name_u]Andrea[/name_u] is a Italian male name. I have met Andréias (girls) and [name_m]Andreas[/name_m] (boys) around, but more girls. So it’s “very similar to a female name” where I live, but totally accepted by the people.
First time I have heard of Artemias, I only knew about [name_m]Artemas[/name_m] (Three Musketeers). [name_m]Artemas[/name_m] is a pretty name which I like, but it doesn’t have the same vibe as [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], while Artemias is more similar to the original. Interesting.
[name_u]Arya[/name_u] is a Persian (or Hindi?) male name, however the letter “Y” doesn’t exist in Portuguese, that’s why [name_f]Aria[/name_f] (and like I said before: “in my country, [name_f]Aria[/name_f] doesn’t have a gender”).
[name_m]Aramis[/name_m]
[name_m]Valentin[/name_m]: sweet
[name_u]Alexis[/name_u]: male Russian name that I think is SO badass
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_f]Swan[/name_f]: growing on me, for both genders
[name_m]Daphnis[/name_m]: idk, but I like it’s similar to [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_u]Amory[/name_u]: adorable, but my mother calls my dad by this (#weird)
[name_u]Remi[/name_u] or [name_u]Remy[/name_u] are lovely!!!
[name_u]Isa[/name_u] ”
[name_u]Issa[/name_u] (ee-ssa): this one is particularly funny in my language
[name_u]Jazz[/name_u]: it’s actually the name of one of my characters (a male one, obviously)
[name_m]Jun[/name_m]: hum… as a nn. But for what?
[name_m]Dov[/name_m]: so cute, yet it means “bear”. I like it
@chey097: I met a [name_u]Cheyenne[/name_u] (girl), though her name was spelled Chayenne.
[name_u]Jan[/name_u]: according to Nameberry it’s pronounced “yahn”. But, I would say it like the [name_m]French[/name_m] name, [name_u]Jean[/name_u]/ Jéan.
[name_u]Alex[/name_u] and [name_u]Andy[/name_u] are totally unisex.
[name_u]Chris[/name_u]/[name_u]Kris[/name_u], here is one that I actually prefer on girls
[name_u]Nikita[/name_u] is only used for a boys in [name_f]Russia[/name_f] and has always been since old times, speaking from the experience of a Russian Lit student. I find it ridiculous on a girl.
I like [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] and [name_u]Paris[/name_u] for a boy, but I would never use [name_f]Marianne[/name_f]. [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] used to be a male name, [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] Wilde had a son called [name_u]Vyvyan[/name_u].
Here are some that I find have a bit of a feminine aura:
[name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_u]Jules[/name_u]
[name_u]Sasha[/name_u]
[name_u]Mischa[/name_u]
[name_u]Micah[/name_u]
[name_m]Lucian[/name_m]
[name_m]Sylvan[/name_m]
[name_u]Dorian[/name_u]
[name_u]Delaney[/name_u]
[name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]
[name_u]Sidney[/name_u]
