My husband and I are expecting a boy. [name]Do[/name] you think [name]August[/name] is too feminine for a boy? That is my husband’s concern. [name]August[/name] is my grandfather’s name—so it never occurred to me that it is girlish. Any thoughts? Is [name]August[/name] a feminine sounding name? I’m interested in all opinions, but if there are any men out there–how would you feel about being named [name]August[/name]?
Also, I’m due early [name]September[/name]. If the baby happens to come in [name]August[/name]—do you think it is really corny to use [name]August[/name] as a name?
I love [name]August[/name]! It’s not feminine to me in the slightest, but I have heard a few people considering it for girls, and several years ago I know someone that named her daughter [name]August[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]. I can’t help but think of the USA show, Covert Affairs, and the Auggie on that show has nothing feminine about him, haha. I think with the nns Auggie and [name]Gus[/name], it’s even more masculine, too. I’m biased, as it’s a MN on my top five, but I really adore it. [name]Eulalie[/name] and [name]August[/name] are so perfect together!
No, [name]August[/name] is very masculine to me and I love that it is a family name! I think some people would find it a little cheesy but I see it as much as a name than a month. I have [name]August[/name] on my list, and I actually think it’s a pretty perfect name.
I grew up in [name]Sweden[/name] where [name]August[/name] is a masculine name and never used on girls. I didn’t even occur to me that you could use [name]August[/name] on girls before I moved back to the states. I was shocked the first time.
I don’t think it’s too soft for a boy. Go ahead with [name]August[/name]!
It’s not feminine at all to me. I always considered Augusta as a feminine version. It’s my great grandpa’s name and has been used as middle name for several boys in my family. I think it’s a great name for a little boy. I don’t like it for a girl at all and have never met a girl with the name. Good luck!
I don’t think [name]August[/name] is feminine at all. I love it and I really like it as a nickname for a longer name like [name]Augusten[/name] or [name]Augustus[/name]. It’s very handsome
I think it is a bit corny to name your [name]August[/name] baby [name]August[/name].
My husbands name is [name]August[/name], so to me the name isn’t feminine at all. I like it a lot, and think it’s really nice for a boy, and who cares if a couple of people use it for girls too. There are girls named [name]Ryan[/name], [name]Blake[/name], [name]James[/name], [name]Elliott[/name], and [name]Maxwell[/name] these days. If every boys name had to be unconsidered just because it was used for a girl there would be no boys names left at all.
To me, [name]August[/name] is solidly masculine. My grandfather of [name]German[/name] descent was named [name]August[/name]. In Germany, [name]August[/name] is a familiar boys’ name. I can’t imagine it being used for a girl. Of course, the feminine version is [name]Augusta[/name].
I’ve mentioned this on another thread, but… As a teenager, I promised my grandfather that I’d name a future son after him. So, I really wanted to use [name]August[/name] as the middle name of my second son (who, coincidentally, was born in the month of [name]August[/name]). Unfortunately, my husband vetoed it. As a compromise, we went with [name]Austin[/name]. [name]Austin[/name] is a medieval short form of [name]Augustine[/name], derived from [name]Augustus[/name]. So, at least I was able to use a name with the same origin as [name]August[/name].
[name]August[/name] is ALL BOY to me. [name]Hope[/name] you use whatever name you love best.
I loved [name]August[/name] for a girl for 10 years or more. I always saw it as a girls name. I imagine a little freckled girl with curly hair in the summer sunshine, for the month of “[name]August[/name]”. The girlfriend on Third rock of the sun was named [name]August[/name]. I’ve never known any male Augusts. So to me, it’s very feminine. It’s kind of like a [name]Scarlet[/name] to me, a strong girl whose not super girly, more fun and quirky.
Lately, I noticed it’s becoming more popular and now it’s considered a boys name too! Which shocked me.
I love [name]August[/name] and think Auggie is a cute nn (if you want him to have a nn). I’ve only ever heard [name]August[/name] used on boys, so I definitely don’t associate it with girls.
In terms of going with [name]August[/name] if he’s born in the month of [name]August[/name], I say still go with it if you love the name.
All male to me. The only time I’ve heard [name]August[/name] used on a girl was on the TV show “3rd [name]Rock[/name] From the [name]Sun[/name]”. There was a female character on that show for a short while named [name]August[/name] and when I heard her name, I remember wanting to gag.
As for having a boy born during the month of [name]August[/name], I think in that case, the name is best used in the middle. Cuts down on the cheesy factor a lot.
