I am due in Oct. with our first. I recently heard the name, [name_f]Fern[/name_f] and fell in love! It immediately reminded me of [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]'s [name_m]Web[/name_m], my favorite children’s book. We run a family farm (including pigs) and I thought how cute to have a daughter named [name_f]Fern[/name_f]. Is this totally cheesy? Am I out of my gourd on pregnancy hormones? We are not finding out the sex of the baby, so I’d like to be ready with boy and girl names. We’re pretty settled on the boys names, I am having a hard time with girls and fitting [name_f]Fern[/name_f] into my current list. I love old, antique, grandma sounding names. Also southern, country, classic names. [name_u]Unique[/name_u] or even a little odd is good too so long as it’s old-fashioned. I want to stay away from ee,ey,ie ending names because our last name ends in a ‘ee’ sound and I think it’d be redundant sounding. And I’d prefer a name that didn’t rhyme with mine, [name_f]Jade[/name_f]. Thanks y’all!
These are other names on my girls list, but haven’t put them into first and middle name combos.

I don’t think [name_f]Fern[/name_f] would be cheesy at all! From your list I really like [name_f]Fern[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_f]Opal[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f], [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. They’re all beautiful.
OOh! I like [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_u]Abilene[/name_u] and [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]! Husband likes [name_f]Fern[/name_f], too. I always said I’d name my children with at least two syllable names because I disliked having a short name, but I keep gravitating towards short, single syllable names for boys and girls…don’t know why?
I also love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] EmmelineFern [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] are great too. [name_f]Tess[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] came to mind for you too.
[name_f]Willa[/name_f] is adorable! thanks @emsky! I really like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] too, one of my top picks. A little worried it wouldn’t go well with a sib set though because we are pretty set on [name_m]Zebadiah[/name_m] for a boy and plan on having at least two. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_m]Zebadiah[/name_m] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] are too matchy with the Z’s? I hadn’t thought of adding [name_f]Fern[/name_f] onto a mn. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Fern[/name_f] flows well and I love names that end in -ine. Like [name_u]Abilene[/name_u] and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Maybeline[/name_f], but too bad for the make-up [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to hear it’s not totally a cheesy though. Looking into it, [name_f]Fern[/name_f] is quite an old name.
I don’t think [name_m]Zebadiah[/name_m] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] are too matchy with the z’s. They don’t both start with z (obv), I think it’s fine.
I forgot to mention [name_f]Clover[/name_f] too. I like [name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]/ [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Clover[/name_f]. For [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]. Also love [name_f]Etta[/name_f]… [name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]… Good luck
I love [name_f]Fern[/name_f]. So adorabe and unexpected. Your list of names is amazing. [name_u]Love[/name_u] so many of them! I’d go for a 3 syllable middle to balance 1 syllable [name_f]Fern[/name_f]. Heres my top 3 pics…
I think I’ve told you before that I adore your style. I think [name_f]Fern[/name_f] would be a great choice for you! I like [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_u]Abilene[/name_u], [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Caledonia[/name_f], [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Claudette[/name_f], [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], and [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Eudora[/name_f].
I love most of your names. [name_f]Fern[/name_f] isn’t my favourite of your list, but definitely not corny! (I think the only name that farmers should steer clear of is [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], because it is so associated with cows).
@emsky I love [name_f]Clover[/name_f]! I’m going to look at that as a mn name with some of my other picks…just when you think you have it narrowed down
@ramonadblack Thanks very much! I agree with a 3 syllable to balance out the shortness of [name_f]Fern[/name_f], or most short names.
@esita Thanks! Yes, I agree with [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. We have two cows, EllieMay and [name_m]Jethro[/name_m], named after the [name_f]Beverly[/name_f] Hillbillies, tv show, almost named the Heifer [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] though, so classic cow. She has long, blond hair, so I had to go with EllieMay.
@tfzolghadr Yes, I love how simple it is too! I am really liking [name_f]Maribelle[/name_f] & [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] right now. Simple and sweet. I think a M or N name would go well with our short, S last name, too.
Thanks everyone for the positive feedback! Back to the drawing board to try out some of these names with my lists!
