Fidelia

What do you think of the name [name]Fidelia[/name]? I saw it on an episode of [name]Law[/name] and Order:SVU and I’ve never heard it before. I like it… I can’t get it out of my head! Any thoughts would be great.

[name]Love[/name] it
Calmer than [name]Felicia[/name]/[name]Felicity[/name], with sweet nickname [name]Fifi[/name] or [name]Dell[/name] or [name]Delia[/name].
A wonderful choice ^^

I actually saw that episode too, and agree that it’s a very nice name. It’s a name with a longer history than most people realize. It comes from [name]Fidelis[/name] which meant “faithful”. [name]Fidelia[/name] was introduced by [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Spenser[/name] in his epic poem ‘The Faerie Queene’. This name was quite common in [name]England[/name] and other English-speaking countries through the Middle Ages, but died out after the 18th Century, and is now very rare as a name in the English language. I did find it in a few uncommon Victorian name sources. All in all, a name with a lot going for it.

The first thing I thought of when I saw [name]Fidelia[/name] on this post was [name]Law[/name] and Order! Haha I think I’ll always associate it with that… but even if I didn’t I wouldn’t use it… it’s feels too religious, even if it’s history extends beyond religion.

It makes me think of [name]Fidel[/name] Castro.

I think it’s a very very pretty name:)

There’s the inevitable connection with [name]Fidel[/name] Castro but I think the feminine form of his somewhat infamous name is very lovely and beautiful.
