Film Inspired Names

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries!

I am a huge fan of movies and television shows. I find myself a lot of the time ending up loving names of my favourite characters, finding new names I’d never heard of before, names I wasn’t such a fan of before but now love, or just expanding my already too long of a list of favourites. I’m curious to hear names inspired by movies or shows you’ve seen that have become your favourites. I’ll start with my own list!

[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] - I first heard of this name while watching Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u]. I absolutely loved the character and found it to be a sweet, somewhat quirky name that was not too overly used. It has since become one of my favourite names.

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] - [name_m]Roman[/name_m] [name_f]Holiday[/name_f] is one of my all time favourite movies. It was the first [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] Hepburn movie I ever saw, and since I have just adored the name. Plus what a perfect person to honour!

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - I have always liked this name, until [name_u]Grey[/name_u]'s Anatomy introduced [name_u]Jo[/name_u] [name_m]Wilson[/name_m] and then I totally fell in love with it. I fell even more in love with the name once I had read and watched Little Women. I so admire Jo’s character. I find it to be one of the prettiest names that has such a vintage, classic feel to it. It’s one of, if not my favourite name.

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] - As many preteens were, I was a huge fan of the [name_u]Twilight[/name_u] series. Before watching, I had never heard of the name [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. I immediately loved the name. It just felt whimsical, sweet with the perfect balance of older classic feeling names and more modern styles. It has stayed on my list til this day.

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is a name I’ve always liked but never truly loved, that is until I watched American Horror [name_u]Story[/name_u] (Murder House) I adore it now, it is such a pretty name.

[name_m]Wesley[/name_m] - I grew up watching the [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Bride[/name_f], and from day one have loved this name. I love softer sounding names, and really love the nickname [name_m]Wes[/name_m]. One of my favourite boy names.

[name_u]Emmett[/name_u] - Although he was never one of my favourite characters, I love the name [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]. I had met a few [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]'s in my life but never thought much about the name until I saw [name_u]Twilight[/name_u]. Similar to [name_m]Wesley[/name_m], I love the softer sound of it.

I totally agree about [name_m]Wesley[/name_m]! I can’t think about that name without thinking about [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Bride[/name_f]. For me, [name_f]Violet[/name_f] reminds me of A Series of Unfortunate Events and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] “[name_u]Jo[/name_u]” reminds me of [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women (both AMAZING namesakes!)

None of the names my DH and I are currently leaning toward for a baby were really inspired by film or TV, but there are some others I really love or have warmed to thanks to film/tv/books.

Simon - I was really liking this name right before Bridgerton came out on Netflix. While the character on the show is flawed, it kind of put the name into a more modern light.

Daphne - Another name I was liking before Bridgerton hit Netflix. Before the show, I always thought of Scooby-Doo and was worried about that connection, but now it feels a little more updated thanks to Bridgerton. Again, flawed character but still gives new life to the name.

John - I never really disliked the name [name_m]John[/name_m], but it felt so commonplace. But then I became a fan of [name_m]John[/name_m] Mulaney so now whenever I think of the name [name_m]John[/name_m], I think of his bits and smile.

Eloise - I liked the name before Bridgerton, but didn’t really have much association with the name. I loved the character on Bridgerton.

Penelope - Before Bridgerton, I usually thought of [name_u]Penny[/name_u] from Big Bang when I thought of this name. I like the association with Bridgerton more.

Emma - I didn’t really have opinions on the name until reading/watching adaptations of [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u]’s book.

Elizabeth - [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_m]Bennet[/name_m] from Pride & Prejudice is 100% who I think of when I see this name.

Darcy - Mr. [name_u]Darcy[/name_u], enough said swoons

Patrick - 100% did not like this name until Schitt’s [name_u]Creek[/name_u]. I still don’t like it enough to use it, but the character in Schitt’s [name_u]Creek[/name_u] is sooo good.

Ted - On Schitt’s [name_u]Creek[/name_u], [name_m]Ted[/name_m] is such a good guy and very cute. He gave a very nice modern association to the name.

Wanda - I just started watching WandaVision and it’s sooo good. I literally never considered this name before, and though I still wouldn’t pick it for a child it feels more modern now.

Diana - I don’t love [name_u]Marvel[/name_u] movies, but the new [name_u]Wonder[/name_u] Woman films definitely brings the name [name_f]Diana[/name_f] more into the light. It’s a very pretty name, and [name_u]Wonder[/name_u] Woman provides a nice image.

Matilda - [name_u]Love[/name_u] the movie and the character! I really love the name as well, but DH wasn’t a fan

Millie - I think [name_f]Millie[/name_f] [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] is a phenomenal actress and I love the name [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. Another DH wasn’t a fan of.

Ramona - I loved the book series as a kid but I don’t think I ever saw the movie they made. But a more recent character with the name is [name_f]Kimmy[/name_f]’s daughter on [name_m]Fuller[/name_m] House.

Barry - I just binged the series on HBO and LOVED it! I still don’t think I’d pick [name_u]Barry[/name_u] for my child’s name, but the name feels fresher to me now. ([name_u]Barry[/name_u] on the show isn’t the BEST role model, but oh well).

All of mine have already been said, [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] (I’d also add [name_u]Bay[/name_u], a character in Switched at Birth, which also has a [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and an [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]!)

Love this list!

Eloise - I have loved this because of the kids books and now also because of [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] from Bridgerton! I think it is one of the sweetest names.

Evangeline - I love this name and the first place I ever heard it was when I was little and watched the movie [name_f]Nanny[/name_f] McPhee haha. I always think of [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] Macdonalds character in that movie when I hear it!

Georgiana - I first heard this in Pride and Prejudice and think it is so cute! I also love that [name_u]Jo[/name_u] works as a nickname because then it is also a reference to [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women!

Luna - I love [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] with my whole heart, so there are unsurprisingly a few names from the series on my list, and this is definitely my favorite! I think its so cute and [name_f]Luna[/name_f] Lovegood is such a great character.

Minerva - Another HP one. I think [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] is such a cute nickname and Professor McGonagall is such a worthy namesake

Rowena - One more HP one! I love the sound of this one. Its definitely unique but so pretty!

Violet - I have never seen AHS but I love [name_f]Violet[/name_f] because its the name of several characters! [name_f]Violet[/name_f] Crawley on Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_m]Parr[/name_m] from The Incredibles, and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] Baudelaire from A Series of Unfortunate Events.

Arthur - Oops ok last [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] one haha. I think [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is so cute and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] Weasley is just my alltime favorite so its perfect

Caspian - In love with this name. I recently found out that less people than I thought associate the name with [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] but it is the first thing I think of and definitely the first place I heard it!

Flynn - Definitely got this name from Tangled haha and I love it. Bonus points because the characters real name is [name_m]Eugene[/name_m] and I think [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] is super cute for a girl!

Laurence and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - I love these both and they are both inspired by [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] from [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women, which is my favorite book and the 2019 film is my favorite movie! I think [name_u]Laurie[/name_u] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] are such darling nick names too.

Wilder - This is my favorite boys name. It is inspired by [name_f]Laura[/name_f] Ingalls [name_u]Wilder[/name_u], because [name_m]Little[/name_m] House on the [name_u]Prairie[/name_u] was my very favorite show growing up (still is tbh haha) even though the show ended over 15 years before I was born lol.
