Here is mine and hubby’s final lists for baby girl names. Please let me know what you think of each name and why. The middle name will most likely be [name]Marie[/name], [name]Marian[/name], or [name]Miriam[/name] (family names), however other middle name suggestions are still welcome! Last name is two syllable - starts with “M” and ends with “an”.
My list-
[name]Adaline[/name] (Ay-duh-line) nn [name]Ada[/name]
[name]Adelaine[/name] ([name]Add[/name]-uh-lane) nn [name]Lainey[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name] nn [name]Georgie[/name]
[name]Juliette[/name] nn JuJu
[name]Penelope[/name] nn [name]Penny[/name] or [name]Poppy[/name]
Hubby’s list-
[name]Delaney[/name] nn [name]Lainey[/name]
[name]Piper[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
[name]Zoe[/name]
I love the name [name]Piper[/name]! I think that’s a great name. [name]Juliette[/name] is also beautiful and the nickname JuJu makes it toddler-friendly. All the names on your list are very nice, though.
Congrats on narrowing it down. My first impression is that you should go with [name]Delaney[/name] or [name]Adelaine[/name] as you both like the nickname [name]Lainey[/name]. [name]Delaney[/name] seems to pull from what you both like so that would be my suggestions. [name]Delaney[/name] [name]Marie[/name] is precious. [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Marie[/name] would my next pick for you. [name]Penelope[/name] and [name]Juliette[/name] don’t seem to match your hubby’s style and [name]Harper[/name] and [name]Piper[/name] don’t seem to match yours.
I second the [name]Adelaine[/name]/[name]Delaney[/name] compromise, given that you agree on [name]Lainey[/name].
My personal smoosh vote, to satisfy portions of both names, is [name]Delainey[/name] [name]Miriam[/name].
[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Marian[/name] (My favorite- so classic and strong- the zesty [name]Georgia[/name] is the perfect foil for the soft, mellifluous [name]Marian[/name])
[name]Penelope[/name] [name]Marian[/name] (Also a substantial, elegant name. I like nns [name]Penny[/name] and [name]Poppy[/name], which are so close to [name]Piper[/name])
[name]Adeline[/name] [name]Marie[/name] (I like the singsonginess of [name]Adaline[/name], and the simplicity of [name]Ada[/name]. I much prefer it to [name]Adelaine[/name], which sounds like “addled” to me, and just not as clean as [name]Adeline[/name]. I think three N-endings might be too much, so I’d use middle name [name]Marie[/name] for this one.)
Could you consider [name]Maria[/name] as a middle name? It would kind of honor all 3, but the M’s wouldn’t bump at end and beginning of your surname as would happen with [name]Miriam[/name], it would have a different number of syllables than your surname, as would happen with [name]Marie[/name], and it wouldn’t end the same as your surname, as would [name]Marian[/name].
[name]Zoe[/name] [name]Maria[/name]. I think [name]Zoe[/name] is the name from his list that is closest to your style.
[name]Penelope[/name] [name]Marian[/name]. I think [name]Penelope[/name] is the name from your list that is closest to his. I’d be worried if she married someone with an S surname though…
[name]Adelaine[/name] [name]Marie[/name] since you both like nn [name]Lainey[/name] and I like how these two names sound together.
I love how [name]Adelaine[/name] combines the classic style that I want and Hubby’s fun, bubbly style with nn [name]Lainey[/name]. I love the how it sounds also. I also [name]LOVE[/name] the flow and sound of [name]Adaline[/name] [name]Marie[/name]. The only thing I am worried about with [name]Adelaine[/name] is that I have read that it is considered a made-up name. That makes me a little uneasy about it. Should i worry about this?
I don’t think you need to WORRY about [name]Adelaine[/name] being made-up. All names are made up at some point. I don’t know why I so much prefer [name]Adaline[/name], but I do. Sorry, but [name]Adelaine[/name] sounds like an ADHD drug to me. Still, I can understand the appeal of [name]Lainey[/name] and the [name]Abigail[/name]-like “porch-sitter” vibe it’s got going for it. If you love it, then you should go for it. It does sound like a “real” name, not a made-up one like [name]Nevaeh[/name]. It’s so close to [name]Madeleine[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name], marmalade… Totally acceptable.
[name]Adaline[/name]- pronounciation is not intuitive to me; I would have thought it was pronounced add-uh-line which I
prefer, spelled [name]Adeline[/name]
[name]Adelaine[/name]- nice, but I don’t like [name]Lainey[/name] and my favourite of the “ad” names is [name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name]- spunky yet old-fashioned (in a good way), like
[name]Juliette[/name]- prefer [name]Juliet[/name] which I love! JuJu is too cutesy for my taste
[name]Penelope[/name]- my favourite on your lists! I prefer nn [name]Penny[/name]
[name]Delaney[/name]- nice, modern
[name]Piper[/name]- sweet but doesn’t age well
[name]Harper[/name]- lovely literary name! I loved To Kill a Mockingbird.
[name]Zoe[/name]- I never liked how you can never tell whether to pronounce it “zo” or “zo-ee”
I love [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Harper[/name] as a combo, but [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Miriam[/name], [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Marie[/name] or [name]Harper[/name] [name]Marie[/name] are nice too.
I love your Hubbies list! The only one from your list is [name]Juliette[/name] (which I love!) [name]IMO[/name] use one of hubbies with the mn [name]Juliette[/name]! Beautiful!
[name]Delaney[/name] nn [name]Lainey[/name] (My favorite)
[name]Piper[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
[name]Zoe[/name]
I agree that [name]Zoe[/name] from his list and [name]Penelope[/name] from yours seem like the best two to meet in the middle, in terms of style and perception.
If you both like [name]Lainey[/name] as a nickname, though, it might be worthwhile looking for a full name that would appeal to both of you? [name]Delaney[/name] seems a bit androgynous and trendy for your taste; [name]Adelaine[/name] a little formal and old-fashioned for his. [name]Elena[/name] seems like a really logical fit- is it one you’d consider?
I dont love the name [name]Elena[/name] 1. because there was a girl in college with this name who I dont want to think of everytime i call my child and 2. Im not crazy about the “[name]Elen[/name]” beginning to the name.
I think we have narrowed it down to three names- [name]Delaney[/name], [name]Adelaine[/name], and [name]Adaline[/name]. Middle name will be [name]Marie[/name], as it flows the best with our last name.
[name]Delaney[/name] [name]Marie[/name] M_ _ _ an
[name]Adelaine[/name] [name]Marie[/name] M_ _ _an
[name]Adaline[/name] [name]Marie[/name] M _ _ _ an
My list-
[name]Adaline[/name] (Ay-duh-line) nn [name]Ada[/name] - [name]Love[/name] the nickname [name]Ada[/name], but don’t like the pronunciation of [name]Adaline[/name].
[name]Adelaine[/name] ([name]Add[/name]-uh-lane) nn [name]Lainey[/name] - Not liking the pronunciation of this one either. [name]Lainey[/name] is a cute nickname.
[name]Georgia[/name] nn [name]Georgie[/name] - Despite it’s popularity, I adore [name]Georgia[/name]! [name]Georgie[/name] is adorable.
[name]Juliette[/name] nn JuJu - JuJu is very cute, but I’m not a big fan of [name]Juliette[/name]. I also prefer the [name]Juliet[/name] spelling.
[name]Penelope[/name] nn [name]Penny[/name] or [name]Poppy[/name] - [name]Poppy[/name] is my preferred nickname. [name]Nell[/name] is also cute. [name]Penelope[/name] is a lovely name.
Hubby’s list-
[name]Delaney[/name] nn [name]Lainey[/name] - I don’t like this at all.
[name]Piper[/name] - I’ve always had an attraction to [name]Piper[/name], it’s rather cute.
[name]Harper[/name] - Not a fan.
[name]Zoe[/name] - A cute name, but way too popular for my liking.
I really love [name]Georgia[/name] and [name]Delaney[/name]! [name]Both[/name] are feminine without being frilly. [name]Harper[/name] is really nice as well, for the same reasons. [name]Delaney[/name] [name]Marie[/name], [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] or [name]Harper[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] would be gorgeous.
I vote for [name]Adaline[/name] [name]Marie[/name], but would slightly prefer the spelling to be [name]Adeline[/name] because it just looks right to me.
I would worry about people confusing [name]Adelaine[/name] all the time, while [name]Delaney[/name] seems too surnamey and masculine for your style.
