I’d love your gut-reactions, prejudgements, likes, dislikes, etc. on our top names. We are so close to picking one for our first baby – a girl. We want it to be [name]UNIQUE[/name]; we don’t want her to be the 5th blank (name or nickname) in her class. We want it to be very classy, somewhat timeless and a bit girly. She may be like me – a study-holic ballet dancer; she may be like my husband – a business guy who played college basketball.
TOP FIRST NAMES
[name]Valentia[/name]
[name]Thea[/name]
[name]Mira[/name]
[name]Ellary[/name]
TOP FULL NAMES (she will have two middle names as is the custom in my family; the second middle name is a family name; it will be [name]Elin[/name], which is E-lin not [name]Ellen[/name].)
Other names (mainly for middle names) we considered: [name]Lexandra[/name], [name]Liliana[/name], [name]Emelia[/name], [name]Day[/name], [name]Savannah[/name], [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Alwyn[/name]/Alowin, Ambry, [name]Larkin[/name], Zolie, [name]Sylvie[/name]
Please let me know your thoughts. I will not be offended. We are not telling friends and family, so we have no way of getting feedback. Moreover, my husband pretty much refuses to read name books so our creativity may be a little low. We are relying only on me. I am a bit concerned. So, I certainly need your expertise and reactions. THANKS!
[name]Valentia[/name]- I’ve actually never heard this name before, and I think it’s quite charming. Is it pronounced Va-len-tee-uh? I think it’s a very unique name, quite girly, very unusual. There will be a lot of Valentinas though, if that’s of any concern to you, since the names are quite similiar.
[name]Thea[/name]- Ooh, I love this name, quite a bit. I think it’s slightly vintage, very feminine without being sickeningly so. Have you considered the full name [name]Dorothea[/name] with the nickname [name]Thea[/name]? It feels more complete to me, although I do like [name]Thea[/name] on its own as well. Classy choice, I think.
[name]Mira[/name]- I like it. It has a similar feel to [name]Thea[/name] to me, and I could definitely imagine two sisters named [name]Thea[/name] and [name]Mira[/name]. It fits all the criteria you’re looking for.
[name]Ellary[/name]- Not my favorite, to be honest. I’ve never been a huge fan of the name [name]Hilary[/name], and it reminds me of that. I just don’t like the way it sounds or it’s overall feel. I prefer your other options.
On your full names (by the way, I love the name [name]Elin[/name]! You’re so lucky it’s a family name!)
[name]Ellary[/name] [name]Mira[/name] [name]Elin[/name] Schindler- Hmm, I like the [name]Ellary[/name] [name]Mira[/name], but not the [name]Elin[/name] with this one. I don’t really like repeating initials. I think the rhythm is nice, though. My girls all have two middle names so I know it’s difficult to get the flow right when you have four names to be dealing with!
[name]Thea[/name] Avabelle [name]Elin[/name] Schindler- Ooh, I don’t like Avabelle. It feels sickeningly sweet, like something a little girl would name her [name]Barbie[/name] doll. I like [name]Thea[/name] [name]Day[/name] [name]Elin[/name], [name]Thea[/name] [name]Lexandra[/name] [name]Elin[/name], [name]Thea[/name] Ambry [name]Elin[/name].
[name]Mira[/name] [name]Ellary[/name] [name]Elin[/name] Schindler- I don’t like the [name]Ellary[/name]. I like [name]Mira[/name] with the middle names I listed above, since I think that [name]Mira[/name] and [name]Thea[/name] have similar sounds.
Good luck! You have fantastic taste, I’m sure you’ll be fine.
I love [name]Thea[/name]! I wanted to use that name but my husband wasn’t thrilled with it. Although, I’m not too sure I like the sound of that with your last name. The TH sound and the SCH sound don’t flow off the tongue very well and don’t sound great together without the middle names [name]IMO[/name].
I think that [name]Ellary[/name] is a very pretty name, fits all your criteria, and probably won’t jump in popularity in the near future. I would go with that!!
[name]Valentia[/name] - very pretty, but I second concerns with overlap with [name]Valentina[/name], and also [name]Valeria[/name] is relatively popular. Not so much, she could easily be the only [name]Val[/name]- name in her class (but not necessarily), but probably wouldn’t be in the school.
[name]Thea[/name] - love [name]Thea[/name]. I think it’s fine with your last name. Fits what you’re looking for, although if you’re prn’ing it Thee-a, there are lots of popular names that rhyme with it ([name]Mia[/name], [name]Aaliyah[/name], etc.)
[name]Mira[/name] - very pretty and probably my top pick from your list. Again, will ring some of the same notes as popular [name]Mia[/name] and [name]Maya[/name], but distinct.
[name]Ellary[/name] - when I hear this name, I guess spelling [name]Ellery[/name], and I might encourage you to think of that unless you hate it or something. But generally speaking, I agree this name is too close to [name]Hillary[/name] for comfort (like [name]Hillary[/name], it’s just people will get the name wrong), AND, most critical, is that so many little girls right now are [name]Ellie[/name] (just [name]Ellie[/name] or nicknames from so many names) - this is a much more serious concern of overlap than the [name]Val[/name]- names.
After looking at your first name list it looks like you prefer non frilly names but on the other hand there are some absolutely gorgeous girls names all of which would make stunning combos. It also looks like you may have a Scandinavian connection with [name]Elin[/name].
First [name]Ellary[/name] is a variant spelling of the boy’s name [name]Ellery[/name] so it is not a girl’s name at all.
[name]Valentia[/name] is probably another spelling of the well known town of [name]Valencia[/name] in Spain and also of the famous brand of oranges.
[name]Mira[/name] this is the combo that I would choose for her - [name]Miranda[/name] [name]Elin[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] with nn of [name]Mira[/name], [name]Mia[/name] [name]Giselle[/name] [name]Linnea[/name], [name]Mireille[/name] [name]Dana[/name] [name]Olivia[/name] (pronounced as Meeray).
[name]Valentia[/name]- [name]Valencia[/name] [name]Enid[/name] [name]Mireille[/name] nn [name]Val[/name]
[name]Valentia[/name] - [name]Valencia[/name] [name]Emilia[/name] [name]Elin[/name]
and [name]Tahlia[/name] [name]Elin[/name] [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Dana[/name] [name]Emilia[/name] [name]Giselle[/name]
[name]Thea[/name] - my combo [name]Kaia[/name] [name]Linnea[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Thea[/name] - my combo [name]Dorothea[/name] [name]Sylvie[/name] [name]Valentine[/name]
[name]Ellary[/name] - my combo [name]Emilia[/name] [name]Valencia[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
other ideas
[name]Anneliese[/name] [name]Mira[/name] [name]Larkin[/name]or Eloise Mira Larkin
[name]Dana[/name] [name]Giselle[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Sylvie[/name] [name]Liliana[/name] [name]Day[/name]
[name]Miranda[/name] [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Anneke[/name] [name]Cybele[/name] [name]Linnea[/name]or Linnea Juliet Aurora
[name]Liv[/name] [name]Liliana[/name] [name]Day[/name]
The standouts on your list are [name]Liliana[/name], [name]Emilia[/name], [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Sylvie[/name] and [name]Day[/name]. I think the prettiest first name on your list is [name]Valencia[/name].
I love [name]Valencia[/name]…what an amazing name.
[name]Thea[/name] - reminds me of a stand up comic who had a sitcom for a while…not that anyone would remember this but the name invokes a southern vibe…"[name]Thea[/name] take that laundry off the line and come in for some lemonade!" it sounds …farmy. lol I know that sounds bad but it’s not -it’s cute, but nothing like [name]Mira[/name]!
[name]Mira[/name] -is dramatic but very pretty but still sporty…love that! And yes if it’s short for [name]Miranda[/name]
[name]Ellary[/name] is super unique I like that a lot. But there are a lot of Ellies out there…wether it’s short for isabelle or bella or just plain ol’ elle it’s pretty popular so calling her [name]Ellary[/name] is one thing but, if she gets a nick name its gonna be elle…are you ok with that?
[name]Mira[/name] [name]Ellary[/name] [name]Elin[/name] is super cute it has a great sound to it…you made some great choices
