[name]Hi[/name] all! Sorry [name]Ive[/name] posted a similar question before. I am now looking for opinions on my current #1 name choice of [name]Nova[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Jane[/name].
My husband picked out [name]Nova[/name] from one of his fave movies (I know, I know. Planet of the Apes–cornball!). I originally hated this name but have grown to consider it pretty and cool. But my husband then broke the #1 rule of baby name club (he talked about it). Now he says he is lukewarm and unsure. As a girl without a dad, I feel like my daughter might think its cool that her dad picked out a special name for her thats got a weird/quirky story behind it.
[name]Margaret[/name] is after husbands great great great grandmother who came over on a boat from [name]Ireland[/name] when 19 years old. Her mom actually died during the voyage. Its also a great-aunt on my side. The only living sibling (of 8) of my grandpas.
[name]Jane[/name] is after my aunt who I admire tremendously. I always wanted to be the type of super involved mom like she was when growing up. I can’t wait to surprise her with naming the baby after her.
Anyway, what do you all think of the name? I like that all the names have special meaning to us. Is [name]Nova[/name] going to be major target for teasing? [name]Chevy[/name] [name]Nova[/name] associations? Or just say ‘who cares!’ and go with it.
I went to middle school and high school with a [name]Nova[/name], she had no issues that I knew of.
[name]Nova[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Jane[/name] isn’t my style, but the fact that it’s got so much meaning to you and your DH makes it pretty clear to me that it’s your ideal combo. I say go for it.
I don’t think she’d be made fun of. I didn’t think of any of the things you mentioned on my own. I think that it’s a beautful name with lots of meaning to you and your spouse. I say go for it.
I have a really good association with [name]Nova[/name]. It was my great-grandmothers name, and she was a very brave woman who stood up to a man who abused her and was ostracized by her family at the time. It’s only recently that the true story has come out. I would seriously consider using her name if I ever had a girl.
I think it is a wonderful, very meaningful name that you daughter would love to have! I love [name]Nova[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Jane[/name] !
I knew a girl named [name]Nova[/name], and I absolutely loved her name, and she did, too!
And, you balanced it out with classic favorites [name]Margaret[/name] and [name]Jane[/name]. I love it. And, if your daughter doesn’t like [name]Nova[/name] and thinks it is too weird, the [name]Margaret[/name] nicknames could serve her well. And I love the story behind it.
[name]Nova[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is perfect.
[name]Nova[/name]: I have a cousin by this name. When she was born, I did immediately think of the science show, and my husband’s first association was the [name]Chevy[/name] [name]Nova[/name], how it didn’t sell in Mexico because “no va” means “doesn’t go.”
But it didn’t take long for me to grow fond of the name. It embodies an interesting contrast- the bright, exploding star, the rockstar fierceness, and then also this sort of prayerful, gentle, Italian or Scandinavian sound… it reminds me of the word “novena” and of La [name]Vita[/name] Nuova.
[name]Nova[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is very cute and obviously has lots of meaning to you! I think you should definitely go for it. I suppose I could see some giggling potential from the science show as well as the term “supernova”. But, honestly, the latter would technically be awesome, she’s super! If any of that bothers her, she could always decide to go by [name]Jane[/name] or [name]Maisy[/name], [name]Maggie[/name], [name]Meg[/name], etc.
I love the name [name]Nova[/name]! It is a unique, quirky, beautiful name! I also really like that her middle names are so special and important to you and your husband. You should definitely go with it!!!
[name]Ah[/name]! I hate to be the dissenting voice here, but I would drop [name]Nova[/name] and go with the classic [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Jane[/name]. They go together beautifully, and the fact that [name]Margaret[/name] is a family name for both of you is a huge plus. Although it’s wonderful that [name]Nova[/name] has significance to your husband, I wouldn’t be thrilled if I found out I was named after a character in Planet of the Apes! I would think it would be much more meaningful to your daughter to be named in honor of an ancestor (a real, once living human being) who bravely crossed the Atlantic AND survived the death of her mother. Now that’s inspiring. Plus if your husband is just “lukewarm” about [name]Nova[/name] that’s not a good sign; you should both love - or at least, really like - the name. And while it’s lovely that you want to honor your aunt, being a second middle name [name]Jane[/name] is just going to get lost in the shuffle.
I love all 3 names separately and together! Honestly, I know about the [name]Chevy[/name] [name]Nova[/name] & Planet of the Apes references but they are not the first things I think of when I hear the name. Others might think of them but they aren’t negative in any way so I think it doesn’t matter. Plus the fact that it has meaning to you overcomes the other concerns in my opinion!
I love [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Jane[/name] and the special family connections. Sorry but I’m not too crazy about [name]Nova[/name] as a first name. In Latin, the meaning is “new” which I find kind of odd to name a child (a child isn’t “new” for very long). Where I live in [name]Canada[/name], it’s a bank name and a pizza company and there is a province of [name]Nova[/name] [name]Scotia[/name] ([name]New[/name] [name]Scotland[/name]). Sorry but I just don’t see it as a name of any substance.
