Final Two Names! Help!

I think we finally have it narrowed down to two names for our baby boy due in [name_u]March[/name_u] 2022! Thank you so much to everyone who has helped with names to get to this point

We’re down to [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] vs [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. Here’s some pros and cons on each…

[name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]

Pros: It has Irish origin which is the main ancestry on my mom’s side of the family. Has fun nicknames of [name_u]Sully[/name_u] or [name_u]Van[/name_u]. I’d like to honor my mom in some way since she passed away when I was 16 and TTC and pregnancy has felt very connected to her. She was a big fan of Disney and [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] was a Disney character in Monsters Inc. He’s a very sweet character and one that would be fun to incorporate into the nursery, Halloween costumes, newborn pictures, etc. [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] has been on my husband and my list for a very long time so it feels like it’s been one that’s stuck out to us for years. His middle name will be [name_u]David[/name_u] and [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] [name_u]David[/name_u] flows nicely. Our last name starts with H and is one syllable. I think the 3 syllable, 2 syllable, 1 syllable pattern with [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] [name_u]David[/name_u] H… flows nicely.

Cons: [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] means “dark eyes” which isn’t any kind of special meaning. If we use [name_u]Sully[/name_u] as a nickname, [name_u]Sully[/name_u] means “to soil or ruin”, which also isn’t a great meaning. It’s #398 in the social security top 1,000 names for 2020 so there’s a chance there will be another [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] in his class. We have a common last name so I’d like to avoid any popular names and having kids in his class with the same name. [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] is kind of a long name and might be difficult for a little kid to say or spell. [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] has a very strong Disney connection and most people say “oh like from Monster’s Inc?” when I’ve mentioned the name. The Disney tie could be too strong and become annoying for him over time.

[name_m]Felix[/name_m]

Pros: [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I have gone through 3 years of infertility, multiple medicated cycles, a chemical pregnancy, and an IUI to finally become pregnant with this little guy. The name [name_m]Felix[/name_m] means “happy, fortunate, or lucky”, which feels super fitting after our struggle to become pregnant. I’d like to honor my mom in some way since she passed away when I was 16 and TTC and pregnancy has felt very connected to her. She loved Disney and there is also a Disney reference to honor my mom with Fix it [name_m]Felix[/name_m] in Wreck it [name_m]Ralph[/name_m]. I love old fashioned and vintage names, which [name_m]Felix[/name_m] fits in perfectly with. We’ve also had this name on our list for quite a while and it’s one that my husband and I have always agreed on. The middle name will still be [name_u]David[/name_u] and I think [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_u]David[/name_u] sounds nice together.

Cons: There’s no obvious nickname with [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is a short name itself so a nickname isn’t needed, but it’s nice to have the option of one. There’s strong ties with [name_m]Felix[/name_m] the [name_f]Cat[/name_f] and a cat food brand in Europe every time I Google the name, which could lead to teasing potentially. The Disney connection isn’t as strong or obvious, which could be good or bad I guess. I don’t like that it doesn’t feel like it honors my mom as much with the Disney connection but I don’t want it to be in your face Disney. It’s #225 in the social security top 1,000 names in 2020 so higher on the list, which could potentially mean more Felix’s in his class.

I’d love to hear your thoughts after reading the pros and cons for each! I keep flip flopping between them. One day I’ll think [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is perfect and the next day I’ll think [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] is perfect :weary: Any kind of insight, opinions, suggestions, etc would be super super appreciated! Thank you!

2 amazing names and a very difficult decision! In theory, [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] [name_u]David[/name_u] is my favourite, it does flow perfectly too. However, having read through your post and weighing things up, I personally think [name_m]Felix[/name_m] just wins because of the wonderful meaning following your journey to becoming pregnant. I do love a name with a positive meaning. And [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_u]David[/name_u] is just lovely!

Only other thought if you’re concerned about the meaning and monsters Inc reference being too strong, would be to swap [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] [name_u]David[/name_u] to [name_u]David[/name_u] [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]. Not sure if you’d want to use [name_u]David[/name_u] in the first spot though.

I’d choose [name_m]Felix[/name_m] too. Although [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] has a greater connection to Disney it seems a little too brand-ey now that Monsters Inc. became more popular. (Still a good choice though.)

I think [name_m]Felix[/name_m] has a little mystery factor to it. It sounds mischevious and unexpected which I find to be charming qualities in a name. [name_u]Fox[/name_u], [name_m]Fin[/name_m], Fix or [name_u]Fee[/name_u] are some cool nicknames you can use!

first of all, both are great names and you can’t go wrong with either one!

i;m for felix, i think it’s happy meaning would be perfect for this bundle of joy and light. on the nickname side, not that felix needs one, but i especially love efi, but there’s also feef, lex, fox and your unrelated buddy, bubba, etc

Oh the suggestions of [name_u]Fox[/name_u] & [name_u]Lex[/name_u] as nns are cute! I actually quite like the fact [name_m]Felix[/name_m] doesn’t need to be shortened though personally. The more I think about it the more perfect [name_m]Felix[/name_m] seems for you

Although I like [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u], [name_m]Felix[/name_m] gets my vote. It was actually our other choice for our son when I was pregnant and I’d use it in a heartbeat if I ever had another boy. Nickname-wise, although I don’t feel one is necessary, you could always use [name_u]Lucky[/name_u]. I think [name_u]Lucky[/name_u] is such a sweet nickname and perfect considering your struggles!

Personally I prefer [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] and the meaning behind it! You can’t go wrong though.

I like [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]. I love the nn potentials. I have 3 young kids and don’t know the monsters association :woman_shrugging:t3:

What a difficult choice because honestly, both are lovely and wonderful.

I’d probably go with [name_m]Felix[/name_m] personally, for it’s cheerful vibe and bright feel!

Would it be an option to keep both and see which suits him best?

I think that both names are absolutely perfect and meaningful for you, that no matter which one you end up going with it will be the right decision :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

[name_f]My[/name_f] suggestion would be [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] [name_m]Felix[/name_m] H. since it has the same flow and amount of syllables as [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] [name_u]David[/name_u], although i know you’ve decided on [name_u]David[/name_u] for the middle name which is lovely with either [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] or [name_m]Felix[/name_m]!

[name_f]My[/name_f] vote goes to [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. I’m aware that there is a [name_m]Felix[/name_m] catfood brand but that’s really not my first thought when I think of the name. There are also many names out there which are very popular names used in the animal kingdom lol, but are still excellent names. I’m thinking [name_u]Max[/name_u], [name_u]Toby[/name_u], [name_u]Rex[/name_u] etc.

I think the meaning of [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is gorgeous. The name also feels very upbeat and exactly that- fortunate/happy.

[name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] is also a good choice but the nickname and what it means would really put me off. I also feel like [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] is a surnamey type name whereas [name_m]Felix[/name_m] isn’t. For that reason alone I feel like [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is a name which will age well. All in all, I think there are more reasons to like [name_m]Felix[/name_m], so to me he looks like the most prominent choice

What I will say is, ( from experience with my youngest son) perhaps take both names with you and don’t feel the pressure to name until you’ve met him. That way you know which name he suits.

Both are great names.

[name_f]My[/name_f] personal choice is [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] [name_u]David[/name_u], nicknamed [name_u]Van[/name_u].

I don’t think you could go wrong with either, but my vote goes to [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]! If popularity is an issue for you, I think that meeting another [name_m]Felix[/name_m] would be more likely than another [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u].

ohh this one’s tough

i’d personally go for [name_m]Felix[/name_m], it’s my fav out of the two. in fact, it’s a name i really love and im also concerned about its popularity. i love its meaning and i kinda like that it doesn’t have an obvious nickname, although i’ve always thought of Fex or Lix, also love the suggestions of [name_u]Fox[/name_u] & [name_u]Lex[/name_u].

[name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] is nice too, and i wouldn’t worry about the meaning of the name, i think it’s more important the meaning it has for you bc in that way you are creating your own meaning for the name.
the association to the disney character is a bit strong for me, but im argentinian and have never heard of this name irl so idk if i can help with that.
the nn [name_u]Sully[/name_u] is really cute and it goes great with [name_u]David[/name_u].

so overall, i prefer [name_m]Felix[/name_m] but i think i like [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] [name_u]David[/name_u] more for you
but still, you can’t go wrong with either name! both are beautiful and have lovely meanings for you

I love both of these names so much and you definitely couldn’t go wrong with either one.
While both flow well with the middle name [name_u]David[/name_u], I think [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] does so slightly better. I also love the nickname potential for it, and the monsters inc association is there, but for me it’s not very strong. As for [name_m]Felix[/name_m], I love the meaning of it better than [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u], especially for you. I think it may be slightly more popular than [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] though, and at least for me the cat association isn’t strong.
If I were you, I would wait until you meet him and you should choose whichever name you think suits him. You can’t go wrong either way!

[name_f]My[/name_f] pick is [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] [name_u]David[/name_u]. I think the flow is spot on and the nickname options for [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] are the cherry on top. I do think [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is a handsome name but I prefer the [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] [name_u]David[/name_u] combo better.

Personally [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is my favorite, but I think [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] works best for your family!

You have two great choices but my vote goes to [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. I personally prefer it and think it’s a very beautiful name. The meaning is absolutely perfect and made me tear up thinking about how much you’ve been through and how you now get your happiness. Of course the happiness doesn’t need to be stated in the name and [name_u]Baby[/name_u] [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] would be just as great a happiness, it’s just a very special added plus.

I don’t think the cat food connection is very strong. If kids tease about [name_m]Felix[/name_m] as a name they can tease about anything. I also don’t think the ranking is too high, it’s quite unlikely there’d be another [name_m]Felix[/name_m] in his class.

I don’t like nicknames so for me it’s a pro that [name_m]Felix[/name_m] doesn’t have any obvious ones. You can always come up with some like Fellie/Fillie, [name_u]Lex[/name_u], [name_u]Lexi[/name_u], [name_u]Eli[/name_u] etc. or something related to the child’s personality.

Huge congratulations!

[name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] gets my vote. I’ve seen Monsters Inc. but that’s not what I think of. I do think of [name_m]Captain[/name_m] [name_u]Sully[/name_u], the pilot who safely landed his plane in the [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] [name_u]River[/name_u]. Which is why I love the name so much.
