I am back, hoping for some feedback/suggestions for our girl name (team green), baby #3 due in [name]October[/name]. I believe that we are in the home stretch with our name selection!!!
This baby will join big sister [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] and big brother [name]Hugo[/name] [name]Montgomery[/name].
I have received some amazing feedback in the past and hopefully you’re not too sick of me to help out again!
We have 100% decided on [name]Mabel[/name] as a first name, but we are still stuck on the middle name. Here are some of our finalists, anyone care to comment and/or suggest alternatives? As a note, our last name is a 2 syllable/3 syllable hyphen.
[name]Mabel[/name] [name]Edith[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] (I am nervous to use this, since [name]Josephine[/name] seems to be becoming very popular)
[name]Mabel[/name] [name]Penelope[/name] (Not sure that this has the old lady/vintage quality that I seem to love)
[name]Mabel[/name] [name]Frances[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name] [name]Florence[/name]
With a long, five-syllable last name, I feel like [name]Josephine[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name] are a bit too clunky. However, I don’t know how I feel about the flow of [name]Mabel[/name] with a two-syllable middle name. Have you considered any single-syllable middle names? I do like [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Florence[/name] from your list. And [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Frances[/name]. And [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Edith[/name]. But I would encourage you to consider some single-syllable middle names as well, to see if you like how they flow. You seem to like older names, so some suggestions to consider would be:
[name]Mabel[/name] [name]Joyce[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name] [name]Beth[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name] [name]Jane[/name] << This sounds best, in my opinion
Mabel Jean
Mabel Joan
Mabel Mae << This one will probably not appeal to most people on here, but I actually rather like the sound of it!
Mabel Fern
Mabel Faye
I agree with Alzora that a one-syllable middle name may be ideal in terms of flow and overall length of the name – given that your daughter will have a 5-syllable hyphenated last name. From the choices you are considering, I’d probably go with mn [name]Frances[/name]. Other mn suggestions are:
[name]Eve[/name] - my favorite
[name]Tess[/name]
[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Gwen[/name]
I also like the previous suggestion of [name]Joan[/name].
[name]Mabel[/name] is so sweet (I sort of like the alternate spelling [name]Maybelle[/name]) I absolutely love [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Penelope[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Florence[/name]! [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] sounds lovely too, but I just prefer the others.
My favorites are Mabel Josephine (swoon), and Mabel Penelope. The others, while perfectly fine, seem rather abrupt and don’t flow as well as Mabel Josephine/Penelope.
I don’t see the big deal about syllables. Your daughters name has 6 syllables and your sons name has 5/6 syllables (I’m not sure if you pronounce Montgomery with 3 or 4 syllables?) Mabel Josephine is only 5 syllables. I know a girl with a 12 syllable name (5 syllable first, 3 syllable middle, 4 syllable last), she’s doing just fine!
[name]Josephine[/name]! [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] is so pretty and match her older siblings’ names better. [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Frances[/name] would be my 2nd.
[name]Mabel[/name] is great…I love it! It was actually my grandmother’s name and [name]Edith[/name] is my mom’s middle name! But my vote is for [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]. I don’t think you should worry about popularity with a middle name, since it isn’t used as much anyway. Good luck!
If you’re in the US, [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Florence[/name]. If you’re in the UK, [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Frances[/name]. If you’re somewhere else in the world, one of these two
([name]Mabel[/name] [name]Edith[/name] doesn’t seem quite as elegant as [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] or [name]Hugo[/name] [name]Montgomery[/name], [name]Josephine[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name] are both ranked in the top 200 in the US and rising very, very quickly which I think is something you want to avoid?).
Thank you all so much for the suggestions! It’s so great to hear all of the great feedback. I hope to be updating the birth announcements in a few short weeks!
