Finally a Name Compromise :)

[name_f]My[/name_f] fiance and I are around 10 months away from marriage and maybe one or two years away from kids (it keeps getting larger as people keep telling my fiance that children are a bad idea less than 5 years into a marriage and will ruin it :/), but we’ve been discussing names off and on in the meantime. Granted our tastes will likely change, but we came up with a solution to our family’s push to name our kids after relatives. His grandpa passed away four years ago ([name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Leroy[/name_m] “[name_m]Chuck[/name_m]”) and his family missed him dearly. Well, one of my grandpa’s has taken a very bad turn for the worst following his own cancer battle ([name_m]John[/name_m] D.). I love my grandpa a lot and it saddens me that he is likely at the end stages of life. So our solution is to choose names that we both like of two men we love, even though the kids will never meet them.

I just kind of can’t figure out the flow. Fiance’s new favorite fn is [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] “[name_m]Eli[/name_m]”. So… [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Leroy[/name_m]? [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m]? What do you think? Any other ones you can come up with?

Of course, we may have a daughter. [name_u]Haven[/name_u]'t come up with a solution to that yet.

[name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] is heavy on the ‘J’ sound so I think you need a name to separate the two. [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] or [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]Leroy[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] flows better. Personally I like [name_m]Charles[/name_m] better than [name_m]Leroy[/name_m].

As for a girl, you could always use [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] as a feminine form of [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_u]Leigh[/name_u], Leighann, or really any “[name_u]Leigh[/name_u]/[name_u]Lee[/name_u]” name as a form of [name_m]Leroy[/name_m] and [name_u]June[/name_u] or [name_f]Jane[/name_f] as feminine forms of [name_m]John[/name_m].

[name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] is the best combo [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. I love the name [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], very cute

As the previous poster said, for a girl you could use [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]/[name_u]Charley[/name_u], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f] or [name_u]June[/name_u]. I personally think [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] are lovely names!

I really like [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]Leroy[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m]! And [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] would work wonderfully for honoring a [name_m]Charles[/name_m]. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is nice.

You say your family is pushing you to name future babies after relatives. Choose names you like - these will be your babies, and you and your fiance should be the ones making the decisions without external pressure from anyone.

When I was pregnant with my older daughter, my mother visited and was pushing various names. I finally told her that if she wanted to name a baby, that I suggested she get pregnant.

[name_f]Susan[/name_f]

To honor [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_m]John[/name_m] with a girl’s name might be

[name_f]Charlene[/name_f] [name_f]Johanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_u]Joan[/name_u]
[name_f]Jonna[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]

For a boy maybe
[name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Eli[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m]
or [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] (as you suggested) sounds fine.

I actually think that [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]Leroy[/name_m] has the best flow of any of the combinations. Also [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] or [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] or [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m].
For a girl:
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_u]Joan[/name_u]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] (for [name_m]Eli[/name_m]) or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Elina[/name_f] or something along those lines.
