Finally, a real need to post

I’ve been a member here for some time and an occasional poster, not to mention a name-nerd since I was a teenager, but in about 7 months I’ll actually get to put one of these names to use!

If it’s a girl, we are leaning toward [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Ruth[/name]. As you can see in the signature, we also love [name]Anne[/name] [name]Marcella[/name], but [name]Margaret[/name] sounds better with our last name (sounds like Action), and we love the nn options. So that’s actually my first question - what is your favorite nn for [name]Margaret[/name] (from the list below), and what do you “picture” for each of the following?

[name]Maggie[/name]
[name]Meg[/name]
[name]May[/name]

We’ve ruled out some of the other choices ([name]Maisie[/name], [name]Madge[/name], [name]Margie[/name], [name]Peggy[/name], [name]Greta[/name]…) but really like all 3 of the ones listed above. Thoughts?

Second question: Overall thoughts on [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Ruth[/name]?

[name]Maggie[/name] makes the most sense. My absolute favorite name for [name]Margaret[/name] is [name]Daisy[/name].

Good call - I like [name]Daisy[/name] too.

I have always loved [name]Meg[/name]. I think it’s a really nice nn for [name]Margaret[/name]. And [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Ruth[/name] is a lovely name.

[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Ruth[/name] is a lovely vintage combo. When I think of your three favourite nn’s I get the following impressions.

[name]Maggie[/name] - spunky and tomboyish
[name]Meg[/name] - serious and studious
[name]May[/name] - sweet and quiet (fave)

Hands down [name]Maggie[/name] (but I am a bit bias, as I have a [name]Maggie[/name] )

[name]Maggie[/name] or [name]May[/name] are my faves!
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Ruth[/name] is lovely.

[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Ruth[/name] is beautiful and classic. My favorite NNs are [name]Maggie[/name] and [name]Meg[/name].

[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Ruth[/name] is lovely and completely classic

I like [name]May[/name] or [name]Maggie[/name] as nn’s, less fond of [name]Meg[/name] but only because it’s popular here.
[name]Daisy[/name] is also lovely as are [name]Mary[/name], Marmie and [name]Polly[/name]

Congratulations!!

I love all three for different reasons! [name]Meg[/name] is just so simple and sweet, but refined. And who doesnt love a [name]Little[/name] Women name.
[name]Maggie[/name] is spunky and fun
I far prefer [name]Mae[/name] to [name]May[/name], but I love [name]Mae[/name]! Especially as a first name, its unexpected and classic.

[name]Daisy[/name] is fantastic too. I honestly would wait and see what she is once she’s born, one will probably feel right when the time comes to use it!

[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Ruth[/name], how can you go wrong with two such classic names! [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Anne[/name] is nice too.

Congratulations!

I like [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Ruth[/name] a lot. I prefer [name]Marguerite[/name] more for my style, but [name]Margaret[/name] is lovely. [name]Maggie[/name] is my favorite of the nicknames, although [name]Meg[/name] is nice as well. Not a huge fan of [name]May[/name].

Best of luck to you

[name]Maggie[/name]: I picture a little girl with short, super curly brown hair and brown eyes with a spray of freckles. Some one who’s not afraid to get dirty or to play with dolls. As an adult, I picture someone like Dame [name]Maggie[/name] [name]Smith[/name]: sophisticated and proper, but respected, and with a hint of mischief. By far my favorite nickname

[name]Meg[/name]: unfortunately, I have grown up with far too many Megans and Megs. I see someone with straight blond hair, pretty bland. But I also think of the [name]Little[/name] Woman

[name]May[/name]: I see someone with light brown hair and wide blue eyes. Someone dreamy and sweet, always with a little smile

I like [name]Margeret[/name] [name]Ruth[/name] with the nn [name]Maggie[/name]!

[name]Meg[/name] is by far my favorite.
I actually have [name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]Meg[/name] somewhere on my list. It’s simple, sweet, and happy. It’s a direct contrast to the more serious [name]Margaret[/name]. Though to be honest, I’d probably use [name]Megan[/name] or Megara instead as [name]Megan[/name] is my mom’s name.

[name]Maggie[/name]- easygoing, honest with a nice hint of mischief and humour- any age
[name]Meg[/name]- serious, smart, reliable, friendly, sounds like an adult nn to me, a thought: [name]Meg[/name] might end up Megsy /[name]Meggy[/name] in school
[name]May[/name]- quieter, less confident, kind of hesitiant- very nice though
[name]Daisy[/name]- fun, sassy, sweet.

I love [name]Maggie[/name]. [name]Every[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]Maggie[/name] I’ve ever known have been wonderful.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Maggie[/name]! I also love [name]Maisie[/name], [name]Daisy[/name], and [name]Greta[/name], but if those are out, [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Ruth[/name], nn [name]Maggie[/name], gets my vote. I love the vintage, traditional feel of [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Ruth[/name], while still being sweet and unpredictable. Very nice.

I really like [name]Meg[/name]! I think it’s simple, sweet, and smart-sounding. [name]Maggie[/name] is cute, too.

I feel [name]Maggie[/name] is perfect for a little girl & as she grows up, she could morph into [name]Meg[/name] if she feels [name]Maggie[/name] is too cute, or stay a [name]Maggie[/name]. You could use [name]Maggie[/name] [name]May[/name] if you need a long nickname for some reason.

Congratulations on expecting your first baby, and very pleased to have you posting.

My thoughts on the combo Margaret Ruth? A good question as this was my mother’s name her full combo was Margaret Ruth Frances.

Mum was never ever called Margaret, she was always called by her nn of Margot, and I inherited Margot as a middle name.

First up I think Margaret Ruth is a super combo with all the light and shade that a combo needs to be right. Secondly, Margaret is a solid name. I think it has a rather no nonsense feel to it, and this might be due to the fact that the two Margarets closest to me had this personality. Would I name a child Margaret? The answer is no because it doesn’t really appeal to me which is strange as I just love the name Margot. However, I think that Margaret Ruth is a fine name for a young lady in today’s world.

If I had to choose a nickname from your choices it would have to be Maggie, she is a kind of glamourous no nonsense girl imo.

rollo

PS I must say that I think a nn of Daisy is a real stretch for Margaret. Yes, Marguerite is well known as a Daisy but not Margaret. If you want to use Daisy just give her the name Daisy.
