Finally Changing my Name and Desperately Seeking Advice ASAP

Hello. I am 23 years old and I finally have the money and paperwork to change my name legally. My whole life I have never thought my name fit me. I have toyed with several different names over the past 10 or so years. People keep trying to convince me not to change my name because they don’t want to learn to call me something different or because they’re so used to it. I don’t care. I want to change it.

I am a nineties baby so of course I have a popular 90s name: [name_u]Whitney[/name_u]. I have two middle names: Je’nais and [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]. My last name I am going to change to [name_m]Jones[/name_m], my son and boyfriend’s last name, because I found out a few years ago (by way of DNA test) that my “father” is not my father. (He was never around anyway NBD). Most people call me [name_u]Whit[/name_u] or [name_u]Whit[/name_u]-[name_u]Whit[/name_u], which I hate. Some people call me Jenais (Jah-nay). My best friend calls me Teeny, which I like.

My personality: I am a Women’s Studies/English major. I am a bibliophile–I have over 200 books in my home!! I love music, I love reading, I love writing. I love politics, I love feminism, I love freethinking. I love science and I love knowledge. I’m kind of like an intellectual hippie. I want a name that reflects that, but that I can grow old with (cos I’m only changing it once).

[name_f]Noa[/name_f] or [name_u]Noah[/name_u]- (Movement, motion) I originally wanted to name my son “[name_u]Noah[/name_u]” but there was a big conflict over it between me and my [name_m]SIL[/name_m]. We are not friends anymore, and I still love this freaking name!! I especially love the female spelling of it and the meaning which totally fits me because I am always restless, thinking and moving.

[name_f]Belle[/name_f]- because I like it, and Beauty and the Beast :slight_smile: All those BOOKS!!

I am open to more suggestions for middle names, and I would like to keep the two middle name thing. I gave my son two middle. names because I have two middle names. I want my name to have “flow.”

Most of my friends told me they love [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and are so used to it that they don’t want me to change my mind again. But my idea was that I was just trying it out and I don’t like it as much anymore. I dunno.

I like the idea of a more boyish sounding name, and I love having two middle names. LOL, I guess I’m a fan of having options. My son’s names is [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] [name_m]Jones[/name_m]. His father’s name is [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. I think [name_f]Noa[/name_f] and [name_u]Everett[/name_u] sounds nice :slight_smile:

Well personally, an [name_f]Athena[/name_f] and [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] in the same family seems (to me) like someone is trying too hard. [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] wouldn’t be as obvious. I don’t know how else to put it. It’s not the worst thing ever.

[name_f]Noa[/name_f] and [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] are both nice, but [name_f]Belle[/name_f] is gorgeous. I like the idea of keeping [name_u]Whitney[/name_u] as a middle name. [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] [name_u]Whitney[/name_u], [name_f]Belle[/name_f] [name_u]Whitney[/name_u], [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] [name_u]Whitney[/name_u]…with [name_m]Jones[/name_m] I think [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] is best. I would look into other literary/historical names. Possibly the other names of [name_u]Vivien[/name_u], Lady of the [name_u]Lake[/name_u] (Nimue, Niniane). I believe one of the other names for [name_f]Belle[/name_f] from B&tB was [name_f]Bellerose[/name_f].

I would ditch [name_u]Whitney[/name_u] as it seems to urk you so much and move on to two names that ring your bell.

Based off your description of yourself, I thought of [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] before I even saw that you were considering [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. I don’t particularly like [name_f]Athena[/name_f] with [name_m]Apollo[/name_m], though–too obvious. Other names that came to mind–[name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_u]Vega[/name_u], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Verity[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f].

From your list, my favourites are [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f], and [name_f]Lilith[/name_f].

My favorite is [name_f]Noa[/name_f]. I think this is so cool on a woman and based on what I just read about you, seems like a good fit. Also, [name_f]Noa[/name_f] sounds nice with [name_u]Everett[/name_u] and [name_m]Apollo[/name_m].

[name_f]Belle[/name_f] is a great name also. I don’t love [name_f]Belle[/name_f] [name_m]Jones[/name_m] though, I think two one syllable names are a little boring.

[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] seems a little stiff and older to me. If you like [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], what about [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Violetta[/name_f]?
