Okay, I’ve been a name nerd forever, and DH and I are now expecting a baby! But suddenly I don’t like any of my old name favorites! Maybe its the hormones or maybe its the reality of actually putting the name on a real baby, but I’m starting from scratch.
Popularity isn’t that important to me, but I probably wouldn’t use a name in the top 25.
For boys, I’m thinking about these three names:
[name]Julian[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name]
For girls, I’m completely lost. What girls names do you see with those boys names? I don’t usually like frilly girls names, nothing princessy. I like strong sounding names, either obviously feminine or unisex.
I’m a huge fan of both [name]Julian[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] (with [name]Julian[/name] being more distinctive imo). Here are some ideas for girls names:
So far I like the suggestions of:
[name]Alexandra[/name]
[name]Ingrid[/name]
[name]Lorelei[/name]. But the image of [name]Lorelei[/name] might be too sexy siren…I’ll have to think about it.
I can’t decide which name I love more - [name]Julian[/name] or [name]Oliver[/name]. [name]Sawyer[/name] isn’t bad either but it portrays a more modern image so it doesn’t have the timeless quality as the other two names.
[name]Julian[/name] and sister…
[name]Grace[/name]
[name]Edwina[/name]
[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Frances[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Eve[/name]
[name]Bernadette[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Claudine[/name]
[name]Camille[/name]
Oh, gosh, you’ve really hit the jackpot with [name]Julian[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name]. Two underused classics! [name]Both[/name] are perfect - for brothers, even! [name]Sawyer[/name] is a different style completely, so I think you need to figure out which style is more “you” and go with it. You could always use names like [name]Sawyer[/name] - literary character surnames ([name]Tom[/name] [name]Sawyer[/name]) - as middle names for your children…
As for a potential sister to [name]Julian[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] - that’s how I’ll think of it for now, to ensure a similar style - I’d recommend these names:
As for my favorites with either [name]Julian[/name] or [name]Oliver[/name], or both, I’ve marked them in italics.
For literary character names like [name]Sawyer[/name], you might like these selections:
[name]Amory[/name] ([name]Amory[/name] [name]Blaine[/name]) - This Side of Paradise by F. [name]Scott[/name] [name]Fitzgerald[/name]
[name]Archer[/name] ([name]Newland[/name] [name]Archer[/name]) - The Age of Innocence by [name]Edith[/name] [name]Wharton[/name]
[name]Beale[/name] ([name]Beale[/name] Farange) - What [name]Maisie[/name] Knew by [name]Henry[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Darcy[/name] ([name]Fitzwilliam[/name] [name]Darcy[/name]) - Pride and Prejudice by [name]Jane[/name] [name]Austen[/name]
[name]Darcy[/name] and [name]Amory[/name] are both girl-friendly, as is [name]Sawyer[/name], whereas [name]Archer[/name] and [name]Beale[/name] feel more masculine to me. You might find many more in your favorite books!
I’m not suggesting anything that hasn’t already suggested by the above posters, but just to echo some of the choices I could see with [name]Julian[/name]/[name]Oliver[/name]:
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Frances[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name]/[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Adeline[/name]
[name]Harriet[/name]
[name]Olive[/name] (obviously, this is only if you [name]DON[/name]'T choose [name]Oliver[/name] for the boy)
[name]Clementine[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]
As has been stated, [name]Julian[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] are a different style than [name]Sawyer[/name] so I’m going to split it up as well.
[name]Julian[/name] or [name]Oliver[/name] and…
[name]Adele[/name]
[name]Alva[/name]
[name]Amabel[/name]
[name]Angelina[/name]
[name]Antonia[/name]
[name]Bianca[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Claudia[/name]
[name]Della[/name]
[name]Diana[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Freya[/name]
[name]Gloria[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Lucinda[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Mariel[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Norah[/name]
[name]Olwen[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
For some reason the longer frillier girls’ names that used to appeal to me just don’t anymore. So many of the names suggested for sisters for [name]Julian[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] are a little too much for me.
Examples of what I do like from your suggestions so far:
[name]Elinor[/name]/[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name]
[name]Ingrid[/name]
[name]Louise[/name]/[name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Juno[/name] (is this too linked to the movie)
[name]Daisy[/name]…or maybe [name]Maisie[/name] (but I don’t think I like [name]Margaret[/name])
I don’t feel that I really have a specific style that I want to stick with. This will be our first baby, and I don’t want to start a theme that I need to stick with. I have different taste in names than I did 2-3 years ago, so I don’t want to count on liking the same names that I do now by the time DH and I have a second baby. Does that make sense? So I don’t need the names to fit together like a sibset, I just thought that knowing which boys names I liked would help you suggest girls names for me. I’m also still taking boys name suggestions.
Thanks so much.
So the list right now is: [name]Julian[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Sawyer[/name], [name]Elinor[/name], [name]Miriam[/name], [name]Ingrid[/name], [name]Louise[/name], [name]Juno[/name], [name]Daisy[/name], [name]Maisie[/name]
